I’m actually going to do a 6 week training plan for a half marathon that ChatGPT gave me today. At first it gave me a plan with mileage a bit lower than I wanted, like it did with you. I told it I was already running 40km a week & it changed it to fit my current distance. It has me going from 36km a week, up to 50k a week. Actually looks pretty good! Let’s see if it’s a winner!

I first heard about ChatGPT earlier this week when one of my students (I'm a teacher) told me that they fed an essay they'd done recently and a mark scheme into the website to see what mark and feedback the AI would come out with. Turns out ChatGPT gave the same mark and feedback on the essay as I had done! Might need to keep an eye on the job listings!

You inspired me to try ChatGPT.
    I asked:
how do you stay focused during an orienteering race?
    The answer:
Staying focused during an orienteering race can be challenging, but there are several strategies that can help. Here are a few:
    1. Prioritize: Prioritize the most important controls on the map and focus on them first. This will help you stay on track and not waste time on unnecessary controls.
    Ha ha!
The rest of the suggestions made more sense

Really funny when you asked it nicely to the AI, because I did the same thing last night and also stopped and laughed for a second when I realised it. Thanks for the interesting video's, love your content!

    Great video !
I have just asked ChatGPT to write me an 18 week sub 90 minute half marathon program. (Over 60's runner.)
I told it what 4 days of the week I want to run on with my preferred content - Tues = tempo, hills or speed work - Thurs = easy steady - Sat = tempo, speed, short 3 to 5k time trials - Sun = long. (Mon & Wed =light gym workouts) Friday = rest day.
I told it I train by time and pace not heart rate.
I told it my most recent 1ok time trial (46 min) and that I am on 20k a week, rebuilding after a lay off.
I told it I want 5 to 10k time trials every 3 to 4 weeks on a Saturday.
It took about 3 seconds to spit out one of the most detailed and specific training programs that I have ever seen.
I put the same questioning to Meta AI but the program that came back was no where near as detailed and had a lot of grey areas.
I plan to follow the ChatGPT program, this will be interesting.

First off love the humor of your interacting in a polite manner with AI, it’s in our nature to be kind. Interesting to see it’s interface with our own metrics and giving feedback in real time. Drawbacks possible isolation from others and human elements that make running community great

I learned that you can ask Chatgpt to go even more into detail if you get too generic answers. Obviously not always reliable, but its really impressive what you can do with it!

As you highlighted, imagine these models trained and having access to your sensors data. I'm sure the big players in fitness tech (Garmin, etc) have something on their roadmaps. Can't wait to see how this all plays out.

Perhaps another less frightening way to think of AI is as CI... Collective Intelligence?

I think this will be a tool more for coaches than for people being coached. I've used it a lot for generating code and it takes someone who generally knows the topic to guide the conversation, validate it and so on. This makes it more useful for refining & generating ideas, rather than generating a plan (or any text) in a vacuum. Also, some part of a running plan involves doing math and at the moment, ChatGPT can be catastrophically bad at doing math.
I did ask it to suggest some ways to gamify running practice (like the Zombies, Run! game) and it had a bunch of ideas including a chutes & ladders sort of running game.

  • @kperttul

The problem with current ChatGPT is that it's very theoretical because the source material is theoretical. E.g. in this example, it didn't give any advice for the muscle maintenance which I think is a big part of running etc. I can see that the ChatGPT will be as useful as calculator. Soon we wonder how did we manage to live without it.
This was very fun and interesting video. Good job 👍

I'm currently training with Humango for a half-marathon PB. It took over a month for the AI to accumulate enough information about my performance in the prescribed workouts to become comfortable and suggest workouts I enjoy and perform well. Previous watch history was not sufficient, and the AI kept suggesting incorrect paces. Let's see how successful the AI can be in getting relevant for a unique individual in the future.

Very cool video! I like that you step out of your comfort zone and try different types of videos. Also I think your thoughts about the future regarding AI and training are insightful. I don't think anyone knows how this type of technology will affect the human race and the society we live in other than that it will have huge impact. I think this technology will change the way we look at humans in general. A little bit similar to what will happen if we got evidence of advanced life from other planets. We are no longer alone of being able to create complex meaningful models of the world. Currently, the AI is already better and faster than humans at many things. But humans change very slowly while the technology don't have the same constraints so I think we will see relatively zone (in 100 years or so) that AIs are better than humans at almost anything! I don't believe that we are prepared for this yet so I think we should devote a lot of thinking about this. Otherwise, this might lead to a disaster for the human race! In the meantime, I think we should use AI to our advantage but that also requires skill, discipline and visdom. It might be that we need AI to figure out how to constrain AI to preserve our freedom and dignity!

I want to use a custom GPT that I train with my upcoming marathon’s route, Strava history, and data from my Apple Watch. Then I’ll use TalkToGPT plugin to make it conversational, link it to my AirPods, and have it talk to me as I do my marathon lol

  • @cpm4317
    @cpm4317 Před rokem

You can challenge it even more asking for a better plan or more details on the runs.
You may induce bias but it's quite useful.
Why not tell it all your times per run (etc) and then ask it to give you a table (excel), add some more.stuff and you have a training tracker ;-)

ChatGPT will replace the warning "PLEASE Read the facts and most common questions before posting to the forum, generic questions will be removed". The great thing about the internet is that the most common, generic questions have been narrowed down and perfected by 2 decades of global contributions. Sure, in the end, it will be dead wrong about any new research or debunking in a field, but so will be most people. ChatGPT is just gathering their advice up until 2021 (important to know! It's a compiled database, it's not live searching the internet like a google search) and spitting it out in a much more pleasant way than judgmental redditors lol.

I've been following you a while now Goran and this was a great idea to do a video on! Its the future, and I'm sure you are correct that we will soon see all that smart watch data being put into AI training plans on Garmin, Polar etc watches/Apps. The other key component to tackle will be nutrition, as this is something I struggle with getting right...

If a few hundred coaches from all over the world used were paid to train this AI into becoming a running coach... it's crazy how good it could become.
Anyways, you can also feed it info to make an even better training plan and keep on asking to improve the training plan with proven method 🤯

To be honest, I'm not so impressed. All of the information and advice it gives is quite generic as Goran noted. Having spent a lot of time reading running blogs, it's easy to notice that you can find all of the advice via google without using chatgpt. I'm curious how it was trained but very likely, just based on available resources from the internet, which are not always accurate.
