- Hey everyone, you ever wondered how those dang finish carpenters build the closets in your house out of particle board shelving? Well, this video will show you how it's done!
Hopefully you can kick back, relax, eat some snacks and enjoy the video!
First, I draw out everything on the wall. Hanging spaces need a bare minimum of 40" up and down, so be aware of that
After everything is drawn out it's time to glue and nail on the hook strip
With that one the top shelf goes in next, followed by the vertical supports
More hook strip follows for horizontal shelves that tie into the vertical pieces
Last of all it's just cutting the remaining shelves - Jak na to + styl
Nice work buddy! What’s going on in that house? Full remodel?
Thanks! This is a full basement finish I am running as the general contractor. I decided to trim this one out myself 👍
Cool. I wanna try it some day.
It’s a fun project! Nothing too hard either!
I’ve seen you do this a ton of times but this was still enjoyable to watch!😂
Ah shucks! Thanks hot stuff!
Nice, I am about to build something similar this weekend for my basement.
Is the material 3/4 partially boar with 1/3 mdf for the trim? Is the glue liquid nails?
Thanks! And have fun with your project. Yep, it’s 3/4” particle board and 1/2” x 3” mdf hook strip (or cleat). I glue the hook onto the walls with liquid nails and when I glue hook onto the particle board I use Titebond 3
What gauge and length of nails? 18 gauge? 1 and 1/4 inch?
also how far down from the top shelf was your divider on the dual hanger side (left side in the video)?
15 gauge for the hook strip on the walls with 2.5” nails
Most of the shelving is 18 gauge 2” nails
Little 1” nails for hook going into the vertical shelving to support the shelves
40” is the minimum for a section of hanging. If you can go a bit bigger that’s going to help. 42” is better if you have the room
