Philip Iâve never tried to tackle anything like this. Thatâs until I watched your videos. The wife loves what I did to âherâ closet.
My son paid me my best compliment. He said âIt doesnât look like you did it â. Thanks again for the videos.
Glad to help
Hahaha...your son try to say it looks too professional
Beautiful! But much of the content I was most interested in was missing :( initial design, drawer construction, face frame installation, flooring, cable management, and how you chose your screw locations for attaching to wall, floor, and each other painting the touch ups to match existing paint would've all been extremely helpful.
Thank you so much for the feedback I will definitely make a video and address all your questions very helpful information to know thank you for all your support
@@HowYouCanMakeIt That would be AWESOME!
Please add how you make the pocket holes?
I will be sure to add that info too
@@HowYouCanMakeIt have you made this video yet. Was going to ask the same question. Awesome video, great job! Thank you
Finally, someone that paints in a way that makes sense. It makes me crazy watching builders paint after assembly, when all they would have had to do were some minor touch ups..
I try and do what makes since.
Thatâs a great looking closet. Love the LED lights feature.
Thanks the LEDs really made the closet look amazing
would like to see this with the led's on for the full efffect of how they light the closet. Since you have them on remote. I guess you turn them on when entering the closet
You make cutting the board with two passes look so easy! I'm always off a hair and it drives me crazy. I have a 12 in miter but will be getting a sliding one soon so that should help with a lot of my cuts. I'm about to build my entire master closet and got lots of tips from your video! Thank you!!
You can do it! Just takes messing up on all the other ones ;) you just saw the good one!
One of the better closet makeovers Iâve seen. Thank you for sharing
Thank you
This is beautiful work!! I loved the LED lights feature you added. Really makes them pop.
Iâm having my closets done in a few weeks. Fortunately I have a friend thatâs doing it for me đ
Thank you đ
Phil, great job! Looks awesome!
Thanks. Now on to the next project.
Thanks for the link. Was fun to watch
Thanks for watching glad you liked it
Awesome video and beautiful closet! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks glad to help
A pocket door would be a fantastic way to add room to your closet space!! Great job!
Thanks
What size was the door to get in the closet ?
This looks fabulous! Great job and great details.
Thank you đ
Awesome video, I am going to give this a try in our closet.
You can do it
Great video! I bought your plans. I am going to try my best to build this for my mom before she comes home from visiting my grandma. It's going to be a huge surprise for her. I truly hope I can do this in time. I have 8 days. So far I've emptied the room and painted it. Next step is to do my design and blueprints, and make a large home depot purchase. The back wall is a slanted ceiling so i'm gonna do counter height drawers. The two parallel walls are gonna be taller cabinets. One will be for shoes and the other with a clothing rod for dresses. Thank you so much for having such detailed plans for such a great price. I appreciate it so much. I started woodworking last year and one of my first projects was an armoire for my room and it's not perfect, but it's structurally strong enough for me to do chin ups on the rods haha (i used 4x4 with a gas pipe and metal flanges. then used plywood to box it up) and it does exactly what I need it to do which is to hold a lot of weight without collapsing. But for this specific project I want it to be aesthetically pleasing and as perfect as i can get it. I absolutely love how beautiful your closet turned out. I'm going to try to replicate it to the best of my ability. Do you have any advice on how to make my boxes perfectly straight? Using a leveler? Do those large clamps also help ensure straightness? Also, should I get my plywood custom cut from home depot? or should i do it at home? I have a circular saw. Oh and i'm also filming this build for my channel. I will be sure to mention you!! :)
Glad to help. I would have Home Depot cut it for you. Will make things a lot easier. Keeping the boxes square is the hardest thing to do. I recommend using clamps and a brad nailer it will help. You will do fine. Look forward to watching the video!
â@@HowYouCanMakeIt Thanks for the advice! I will try to keep it straight with the glue as i use the nail gun. When I let the glue dry after I do my pocket holes, do i leave the clamps on for 24 hours as well? I have 7 boxes.
Also, in your plans I see that you use 1/2 inch plywood for the boxes and you mentioned 1/4 plywood for the back panel. At which point do we use the MDF?
In your plans you said to leave 1/2 inch between boxes and you mentioned using wooden shims as needed. Are those wooden shims in between the wardrobe boxes? What measurement do those need to be?
I see you cut your baseboard to 2 3/4". Did you cut your face frames width as well or did the you space your cabinets to meet the width of the face frame?
Lastly, If i want doors on my 2 taller cabinets, at what point would i install them? I don't know how I'd install the cabinet hinges with the face frames. I'm planning on doing a 2-door cabinet for the shoes and for the clothing rod cabinet. This master closet is actually gonna be in an upstairs hallway (129" x 98"), so doors on these cabinets are essential.
I apologize for so many questions, I've never done a build this big and I want my mom to absolutely love her surprise master closet. Just trying my best.
You don't need to leave the clamps on for 24hrs as long as you are not moving them. You just need the clamps on long enough for the glue to start to bond a a few hrs is enough.
The MDF is for the bottom of the drawer boxes. I think I have the drawer box video link in the video or in the description somewhere. I spaced my cabinets to equal 1.5in that way I could use a standard 1x2 for the faceframe because the actual size is 1.5in. leaving a .5in gap between the boxes allowed me to make adjustments as needed and I had a channel to run my wiring for the LED lights. I did have a bit overhang on my faceframe when I moved the boxes but I just sanded or applied wood putty to make the transition from the faceframe to the box cleaner.
Installing doors with a faceframe. I would reccomend creating inset doors. Here is a helpful link to know what and how to install the hinges www.rockler.com/learn/choosing-the-right-hinge-for-your-project I would recommend going with Inset Cabinet: Inset door on frameless cabinets fit within the cabinet opening and sit flush with the front edges of the cabinet.
Happy to help ask away :) really looking forward to seeing the final build!
Can you let us know how your project came out for mom?
Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you
Faaaannnnntaaaastic!!!! Thank you for all the detail walkthrough .
Any time
That extension arm on your drop saw is fantastic!
I would agree
It's hype.. the arm loses accuracy at full extention, but people buy this crap to "look cool" like iphones.. people who know technology don't by that crap, same with bosch. You'll pay 300% more for a bosch and it gives little benefit, if any except "I spent all this money" like this guy, and people remodeling their homes when it's perfectly functional and we have people starving in the world. I've been in this business for many years taking these idiots money.. Look at all the females commenting on this... booshy people who want to look like they have a lot of money. Pathetic. But yeah the closet looks great, like that full length mirror.. what is that lil mirror going to do lol? Nuffin.
A closet makes a closet. Nice!
True
It's really clean and ordered closet and with the light there's no fear to be messed up and not to find clothes .
Thanks. I can definitely find my close now way better the the pile I had in the floor

You did a really good job my friend well done!
Thank you.
Phenonminal job!
Thank you
Hi Phil, awesome presentation!! I the use for the MDF... otherwise this helped me tremendously!
Thanks glad to help
Wouldâve like to see more on getting the lights installed, how you used the jumper cables etc, but thanks for the vid and the links to what you used!
I created this as a follow-up video for the closet to answer additional questions. I hope it answers more of the light and cable questions for you. czcams.com/video/0BfkL_syVO8/video.html
This is such a great build! I did freak out a bit around 6:47 though. When using any nailer I would recommend keeping your fingers at least 1.5x the length of the nail away from the tip of the nailer. And with plywood you never know what is on the inner layers; there could be a knot in just the wrong spot.
Anyway, great video!
That is true
Really well done
Thank you
You did a great job!!!

Fantastic

I think it looks greeeeeat!!! The only thing I would have done, was to go right up to the ceiling as it looks more custom! The lighting amazing on this job you did đ
Thanks, Yeah...I debated going to the ceiling however I decided not to so I could put baskets and other items at the top.

Beautiful closet! I wish I had seen this video before I did my closet. Do you have a video for building the shelves?
Not yet!
@@HowYouCanMakeIt I meant drawers.
Great closet. Can you use a different type of wood for a natural look? Also I'd like to put LEDs on each shelf for the shoes instead of just the top one. Looks amazing!
Yes you can. Sounds awesome
Hi Philip. Absolutely amazing work. How did you get the holes for the shelves spaced correctly?
Thanks I used a pin hole kreg jig the link to the tool is in the description.
Great video! I couldn't find where you may have explained how you made the holes for the pins that hold the shelves. Any advice in that regard? Thank you.
Yes I used this jig amzn.to/39oLIAK
Love that you are using 1/2 inch plywood instead of 3/4 inch.
Thanks
I would like to build this.đđ
You should đ
I love this! I didn't see how you secured the boxes to the base, each other and the walls. Also, do you have a more detailed video of how you made the drawers and the dowel holes for the adjustable shelves?
Yes I do! Here is a more detailed video czcams.com/video/0BfkL_syVO8/video.html box drawer video czcams.com/video/M2UfSxgZuYs/video.html and drawer slide video.czcams.com/video/GghIQwrXuig/video.html...the boxes were nailed together and to the base floor and then patched with wood-putty.

Toni Batten I cant recall I think I put it in the description đ
nice

Great work. The only thing I didnât see is how did u attached the boxes to the back wall.
I used L brackets at the top
The drawers are beautiful I wish you would have showed how you made that part

Your driveway is enormous!

you are happy. and i am affect by your happy mood

Hello, great video I just need to see how to make the little holes to hold the shelves?
The $100 dollar closet should have that. I use a Kreg Shelf Pin Jig | amzn.to/39oLIAK
Beautiful job. What did you use the mdf board for? The trim.
the MDF is for the box drawer base.
What kind of plywood did you use? I love the look!
Plywood I have worked with is rough and bumpy. The wood you used looks much like MDF. Great video!
Thanks I used 1-2in birch plywood
Very cool. Any advise how best to fix the hidden space in the angles?
I used caulk and wood putty.
I wish the diy closet I just built looked as good as this. đ˘
You can do it.
Awesome video...I am in the process of doing this exact thing and am at the point I need to install the lighting. I liked the LED strips you used but my questions is this..there are a few spots where the cabinet I want to light is up or down a way 12-24 inches from the cabinet next door, you mention jumper wires, but they look short. Did you have spots where you had to run a longer jumper between LED strips? Do they sell them in different sizes and how many feet of LED strip did you use? My closet design looks to be similar to yours. I was on Amazon till 4am this morning and can't seem to find a solution.
they sell wire that you can attach to the jumper wire. They are really helpful, just message or call them and tell them you are wanting to do what I did and mention my closet video they should remember me as I called and messaged them a lot.
8:38 Oh hi Marc!
hi back lol
This is absolutely the best closet I've ever seen.
Thanks glad you love it.
Great work. Please add-on the âDrawerâ work shown in video. Thkx
Thank you will do
Great job. about how long did it take you to do this job? did you make the drawer frnts or buy them pre- made with the drawer box and all.?
I made the drawer fronts. I am going to be making a new video showing how I make just the front. The closet took about 40hrs to make. I have a new video coming out in the next week or two going over the closet in some more detail
Hey, you did an awsome job. Another question i have is what is the hanging rod dimensions on a double wardrobe. My wife is shorter and i dont want her to struggle getting her close but i want that second shelf at the bottom half to add led lights. I think it looks better.
thank you. the hanging rod dimensions can be found on my website. bit.ly/34h7HKa I have an illustration showing standard closet heights etc.
Seems like a good way to justify the purchase of a good track saw!
Why not
Hi Philip,
I bought the plans today. These look great. In your materials list, is the 1/4" MDF what you're using for the back panels? And what is the 1/5" Plywood Underlayment Specialty Panel used for? Thanks!
The 1/4in MDF is for the box drawers for the drawers in the middle of the closet. The 1/5in or you could use 1/4 plywood underpayment for the back of the wardrobe boxes. It holds it together so everything is square.
@@HowYouCanMakeIt Thanks!
Amazing video! Going to get my husband to work soon on this I hope!! Could you use MDF instead of plywood? or what is the reason you preferred plywood?
Plywood is lighter and I think for stable and wonât tend to bed over time. MDF is good but for long stretches if you put weight on it over time the fibers break down.
I've watched loads of these "to do yourself" clips. It'll be great if someone could do one for hopeful people, like myself with basic tools...impossible I know but worth a try lol
Most all my projects on my channel can be made with just a table saw and miter saw. If you have any questions about projects you are working on feel free to let me know in the comments and I will do what I can to help you on your woodworking DIY maker journey.
@@HowYouCanMakeIt naw thank you. I've only just discovered you, so I haven't had a chance to look at your other clips. I'll subscribe and check them out!! Thanks again!
anytime đ
It is so beautiful how did you make the drawers?!
There is a drawer video on my channel that shows how I made the boxes
Phillip - love it - how big is your space ? 99 inches x how many inches ? When i buy plans can i change measurements?
yes, the plan comes with a 3D sketchup model that you can modify and change.
Thanx for share bro, can U tell me which kind of white paint U used un this proyect? Big Fan.
I have it listed in the description however if you want a better paint I would use an enamel based paint as it is more durable but more expensive.
Great video.....what type of paint did you use?
I upgraded my paint to sherwin williams emerald urethane
I have a walk-in closet about the same size as yours but I have a vent in the back of the wall straight from the door. What do I do with that since I donât want to cover it??
You could make or adjust the closet wardrobe box to be in the center then you could cut out the area where the vent is as the clothes with hide the hole or you could move the vent. You donât want to cover it with a box
This is beautiful man!! Lived it!
Thanks
Philip Miller can you do one for me?
Did your chase ply would with the holes for the pegs already in it?
I created the peg holes using a kreg pin hole jig amzn.to/3aiZCIG
How did you put the wholes for the selves support
The tool I used is linked in the description. It is a pin hole jig
I'd like to know HOW you did your drawers.
I have a video on how to make the box drawer. Here is the video - czcams.com/video/M2UfSxgZuYs/video.html I am working on a video that will show you how to make the face plate of the drawer. stay tuned :)
Did you make the shaker style drawers for this closet or buy them? I saw your drawer video on making a simple drawer and itâs not a shaker drawer. I bought a house and it already has a nice closet but there are no drawers in the closet. I found that the closet has a closet maid system. I went to a few places and am finding that I would either have to make the drawers, custom order drawers or get a new system.
I made it myself. I am updating the plans for this project to give you more details on the drawers. I hope to have it updated in a few days.
Was really hoping you would explain the led lights and how you connected them between the different spaces of the closet. 1 strip or 2 strips? Where did you place the connector wires? Turned out awesome!
I plan on doing a video going into more details. I added longer wire and put in a jumper between LED strips. The wire is hidden in the space between the boxes and covered with a face frame. If the LED strip ever needs to be replaced I simply unplug it from the jumper and add a new one.
Thanks... Closet turned out great, Iâll be looking for the video!
Thanks. Now the presser is on to make the video đ
Looks great but I was really wanting to see how well the led lighting worked.
I have a follow up video showing more czcams.com/video/0BfkL_syVO8/video.html
Which Flexfire LED light strip kit did you use for this build? Did you purchase any optional items along with the kit from Flexfire?
I worked with Ana and she put a kit together for me that included the LED lights, controller and power supply and additional jumpers and wire. Tell her you are trying to make my closet. She is great or anyone one her team. you can use their chat feature on their website. Oh and they don't pay me or give me any discounts. I just simply love their product.
What kind of lumber did you use for a face frame? 3/4" thick maple? And what is the overhang for faces ...0.25"?
I used poplar but you can use any solid wood. .25 underhand
Awesome job!!! Did you build your own drawers or are they purchased?
I built my own drawers. Here is a video I made showing you how to make one czcams.com/video/M2UfSxgZuYs/video.html Here is a video showing you how to install the drawer slides in about 2min czcams.com/video/GghIQwrXuig/video.html I hope this helps.
@@HowYouCanMakeIt the drawers in the video are flat faced, the ones in the closet have a trim, do you have a video on how you did that?
I donât, but good suggestion I will see what I can do about making a video
Great build. Can you tell me why use 1/2 inch instead of 3/4 inch ply? 1/2 seems to be less stable in my opinion. Are there any cons ro using 3/4 inch?
Two reasons. Cheeper and I wanted the edges when put together to be 1â
Itâs turned out fantastic! Super labor intensive but you made it look very easy! â¨đŤđ¤Š
Thank you! đ
Absolutely beautiful, my friend!! Wow!
Thank you so much đ
I'd do a separate video on how to use a chop saw and focus this video more on the specifics of building the closet. a lot of time spent on basic carpentry skills - hopefully those looking to take on this project would have those skills honed already
thanks for the suggestion.
How has the paint held up since you've built this, particularly under the shoes. Have you had to touch up or repaint?
No issues. I recommend using an enamel based paint better than acrylic
Did I miss the part where you drilled the shelf pin holes? Is there a jig for that? How do you set the right depth?
I used the kreg jig pin hole jig. I used two of them to speed up the process as they can be connected together. amzn.to/3xm8nKF
Very nice. What size is it? It looks like itâs 8â x 10â?
yes, it is about that size
Hey how many coat paints did you do ? Also did you finish all your coats in your garage before installing or just one coat? If so did you do the final coat after finishing installing. If so what grit sandpaper you used
I did two coats in the garage and then did a final touch up after it was installed. 180 grt or finer for sandpaper
