In this video, I’m going to answer the question, can you do juicing while on a keto and intermittent fasting plan?
In general, I do not think that juicing is the best idea on keto or while fasting-unless you’re doing a juice powder. Why? Because many vegetable juices can contain more carbs than you would expect. In turn, this can low down ketosis and weight loss.
When calculating the carbs in a vegetable, you want to subtract the fiber from the total carbs, which will give you the net carbs. Juicing removes the fiber from the vegetables, which means you can no longer subtract it from the total carbs. One cup of juice will have more net carbs than one cup of whole vegetable because of the fiber content.
Additionally, juicing can remove a lot of the phytonutrients in vegetables. Phytonutrients have powerful health benefits.
If you find it difficult not to have juice because of cravings, try using inositol. This is a form of natural sugar alcohol (known as vitamin B8) that helps with insulin resistance. If you can repair insulin resistance, you will have a much easier time fighting off cravings.
Bile salts can also help reduce cravings. Bile helps you break down and absorb healthy fats that keep you feeling satisfied after eating.

Imo, I feel so good after I drink fresh vegetable juice...kale, cauliflower, parsley, celery, beets, cucumber, aloe, peppers, with lemon and chia. I think the secret is immediately after drinking it, you must do some vigorous exercise to burn off the carbs. I still eat salad later in the day for fiber, but there is no way I can eat so many healthy veggies without juicing. Way better than supplements.

Ok so I don’t do keto or iF so I can’t speak to those things but juicing is one of the best things I ever did for my body. It helps my stomach issues, it gives me tons of energy and I don’t have cravings at all. I always have done carrots and apple and celery. I don’t like celery at all so the apples help cover the taste. Anyone who has had a successful juicing journey will find it very addicting and will want to juice daily. Just my 2 cents for those who are here for supplement info but aren’t doing keto. Please don’t harass me....not trying to get anyone who is keto off their diet. 💜💜💜

Dr. Berg - I’m sure juicing kicks a person out of ketosis, but it is how I initiallly lost weight accidentally and got healthier too. The juicing was in combination with other aspects of the Gerson therapy. I suspect there is a lot more to it than just the grams of carbs. There has to be something about concentrating the nutrients (using organic) combined with enzymes (in the fresh juice as well as supplemental - similar to your gallbladder formula). It’s way out of the realm of ketosis, but maybe squarely in the realm of autophagy, maybe? There are carbs in Gerson, supplements and digestive enzymes, and lots of potassium. But limited grain. Without trying to lose weight, 60 lbs came off without me trying. I didn’t have a scale, but two trips to a clinic over 6 months confirmed why my pants were falling off. I seriously want to understand.
Edited to add - I was pre-diabetic and had high cholesterol, but 6 months into this, my numbers were normal.

I did keto for 6 months back in 2018. I had rapid weight loss in 2 weeks, steady weight loss for 6 weeks, it then plateaued. I started to get really lethargic, after that the weight started a go up with a lot of muscle, strength and energy loss. I prefer to exercise every day and fuel my workouts with carbs, I'm currently at 12% body fat and strong as ever. I still use keto every 3-6 months to reset my metabolism a little but only for up to 7 days at a time. A keto lifestyle doesn't suit everyone's genealogy. But it has its place.

I added keto when it was too hot to work out (I was literally slipping all the time because of the sweat), but now I feel too tired to work out again. I also eat every other day, and perhaps it's a bit extreme, but I am almost done with my weight loss and I also have a serious POCS problem. I'm sleeping a lot though, compared to the past. I think keto has its place too, and it's not when you're basically fit and don't need to lose much weight. Enjoy your carbs, bless you :°)

You didn’t mention soluble fibre which is retained when using a masticating or cold press juicer. You also retain a certain amount of insoluble fibre.
A fresh juice combining carrots, beets, lemon, ginger, zucchini, cucumber, apple and celery (for example) is so wonderfully good for you.
If inclined you could always combine with a free range organic raw egg.

I do intermittent fasting per Dr Berg's suggestion. My eating window for keto food is 12pm to 6.30pm every day. All other times I'm not eating. My office has just implemented the Sirtfood Diet regime as a wellness bonus for the staff (the diet the singer Adele lots tons of weight on). It's all free so I thought why not. They expect you to take care of your food needs yourself but they do provide the green juices 3 times a day which will happen for the next four weeks. I started keto a few days before this happened at work and I'm finding it pretty awesome. For the first time in my life I'm not craving anything, not sugar or refined carbs, not honey soy chicken flavoured chips, not custards or ice cream, or any number of foods I was addicted to before. I'm also eating less in general and I'm exercising every day but not getting ravenously hungry afterwards like I used to.
I understand Dr Berg's reluctance about the juicing strategy and you have to figure out what works for you, but for me, the juicing is pretty awesome. Each juice cup we get is only 250 ml, or 8.5 ounces. There's also quite a lot of fibre left in the juice, so I guess that helps too. I also pee on the Ketostix every day so I can see I'm burning ketones for fuel and not carbs and I check a few times a day and it helps keep me on track.

So if I juice/smoothie from 12-6 for a few days and then introduce solids a few days later (vegan keto) and still eat between 12 and 6...im ok?? I really want to lose weight and get to Ketosis...not there yet I don't think. Need keto sticks. I've lost 6 pounds so far but probably water weight..

Tomas Hull Tomas Hull it depends whether you are insulin resistant or not. if you are insulin sensitive you wont burn muscle in any circumstances. you burn muscle because you have too much insulin which prevent fat oxidation even if your glucose deep low when this happen your body goes into panic mode and release panic hormones which burn muscles to create immediate energy. but once you start fixing insulin resistance it will be easier to burn fat without losing muscles.

I'm doing vegan keto and worried that I'm not eating as much...just broke my 3 day water fast to start off the Ketosis and switching to Keto juicing and smoothies for 2 more days and then will start eating Keto meals. I see meal plans and they are SO HEAVY...even the vegan ones! I wonder if it's ok to intermediatly fast while on Keto. I used to crave and eat every 5 minutes but after the fast...im barely hungry!

But, but, but … we are not ever even ingesting the insoluble fiber in those pesky carrots, so there is no need to count them in the first place. Our juicing machine subtracts it out for us before our bodies even get a chance to ask the question of whether they want to metabolize it or not. What is ingested when juicing? Net fiber! Nothing more than that. We don’t need to subtract out indigestible carb values if they are (appropriately) not included in the first place. So, use the net carbs values, it is more representative of what you are actually putting in your body.

So I have health issues, possible SIBO, I have Hashimotos, and I swell up everytime I eat beans, rice, garlic, gluten, so I decided to try a fast/keto for a month.
I planned on water fast (with ACV, lemon, Tea, water mainly) but felt so weak after the first 3 days...its day 4 and I broke my fast with a keto smoothie last night..after 3 full technical days: avocado half, coconut milk, kale, spring greens, mixed berries, macadamian and walnut. I feel SO good! Is it OK for me to do Keto smoothies and celery juice for a full day or two before I actually start making meals? I've lost 6 pounds so far...but my face got swollen again...(it happens everytime I eat). What do you recommend in terms of sectional fasting? Like water...juice...keto meals.

I am from Asia where "not eating" is a part of lifestyle when we are ill. That is my tradition. Carbs in the veggies, with fiber or without, do not harm the body. They would, only if you consume it in unnatually high amount.
