The server listened to D. and so wanted to compensate him 🍰☕him for his waiting there. But afterwards, he was full, and therefore had less to pay. Shows respect for the guest´s treat.

Order food - then staff go to kitchen, kitchen has a queue of orders waiting, steak eventually gets cooked, then rested for 7 mins before slicing. 25 mins isn't much at all. Prob feels longer because you're on your own. Cheers
25 minutes is fine, steak needs to rest longer than it was cooked

I watched this video the other night when I came home from the pub. I can't remember it so I'm watching it again.
I echo most of the comments and wouldn't say 25 minutes wait for steak is that long. You were offered a free dessert. Either take it or not. I wouldn't use it as leverage for money off the bill if you chose not to have it

Not awkward Darren 25mins isn't too bad, you were offered a dessert which you didn't want, just pay the bill.
He’s a ponce. He just out for a free meal now. Blokes skint obviously and living beyond his means.
If I want my meat sliced, I'll order Stroganoff, or a stir-fry. If I fancy a steak, bring me what I'm paying for, and if it's cooked incorrectly, take it back and do it again.

25 minutes isn't too long to wait however I would have done the same as you mentioned it the dessert.
@@mikeymike1854there are other ppl in the restraunt being served. 25 mins isnt long at all. Ppl will complain about anything for the chance at some free food lol

I thought it looked very plain.I’m sure a bit of salad or even peas wouldn’t have hurt them.The steak did look good though.
For me 25 minutes is what I would expect. The steak looked excellent. Put a smile on my face.
25 mins is not unreasonable. The food was good and as stated the Service was good. The fact you got offered a free desert was a nice gesture in itself when they probably didn't have to...so yes you probably should have just paid the full bill - I certainly would have.
Had a similar experience at Hawksmoor in Dublin. Table reserved for 7.30 but left sitting in the bar area until almost 8.20. The lady was extremely apologetic and offered two complimentary glasses of the house red wine with the steaks. The food and service at the table was excellent but when the bill arrived they charged for the two glasses of wine. When I queried this pointing out that we had been offered the wine by the lady "greeter" they said that they had not been informed of this and that she was no longer there to confirm for them. I ended up paying the full bill but emailed Hawksmoor to inform them that I found the situation a little awkward and they have offered me complimentary wine on my next visit. Problem there is I was visiting from the Far East and may never get back again!
I know a server who worked her socks off for Blacklock they gave her one days notice and got rid of her they worked her like a robot shameful way to treat staff
I would have said…she said I was only to pay for the sauce! 🤣
I'm totally with you on the slice or no slice makes no difference to me, it looked a great steak and chips. However 25 - 35 minutes for a freshly cooked meal of that quality is more than acceptable, if it were any less I'd be a little dubious.
Respect to the servers 25 mins is not bad at all tbh

Yep ...left it paid the bill. The steak was prefecrly cooked and jeez 25 minutes is pretty average time epectation in these upmarket.scoff houses. You making a meal.of it Dj DJ a little too much murmering for something so trivial ...but each to their own of course.

Amazing looking steaks at Blacklock DJ. I guess 25 minutes is an average wait at a London restaurant.
25 minutes is fine - last thing you want is a steak rushed out that has not been rested properly

I don’t think I would have mentioned the free dessert, I would feel like I was a grasper, but that’s just me 🤷♂️
Should have ordered a Big Mac if u were in such a hurry, Steak takes time to prepare ,cook ,rest , slice , plate up and serve you should be embarrassed, thing is you know this and still took advantage of their good will, i wont be watching any more of your videos Mr Cheap.

25 minutes is not slow. Steak has to rest. Looked a bit sparse to me, just steak and chips. Steak was more than a fair portion.
I wonder whether the 25 minute wait was because they expect people to order a starter first. Food looked belting. Thanks DJ.
That’s not a river basin. That is West India Dock. Dug out by hand, to accommodate cargo ships.

I'm not a trained c hef or anything - but I cut a steak after resting, to stop the inside cooking further (as warmth from the bark penetrates further). It gives more control over temperature.
Ever heard of a ‘doggy bag’ ?! Pudding to go, yum yum 😊
I think everyone is different.
I almost expect to wait for good food & wouldn’t blink if it was 30 mins or so.
In that scenario wouldn’t expect anything off or back.
But each to their own.

Personally i would have felt awkward as well. Just asked my partner and he said Damm right id mention it 🤣
I’d of done exactly the same, in the most pleasant way I possibly could. They don’t want negativity about their restaurant, I also think that was a generous re compensation. These videos are much better Darren, quality.
Pay the bill and go, good food is worth waiting for and to be honest 25mins for a steak and chips isn't that long a wait.

. I think the service outweighed the wait in the end, though I think I would have mentioned it after that time. As for the dessert offer would definitely have mentioned that, never feel awkward you are the customer. Overall the food looked excellent.
You can buy that chilli sauce in supermarkets now DJ. It's called Chilli Charger and i eat it straight from the bottle, yum!
Hi Darren. Another terrific Blacklock meal. I think if you’d had their great starter, you wouldn’t have noticed the wait. Also if you’d been with someone it wouldn’t have seem so long. I’m pretty sure they would have boxed up the dessert for you to take home. Anyway, you’ve made me want to go there again. Thanks.

HI Darren Another great video well food looked good ,ok there was some delay in getting food to you so they apologised and offered you a free desert.
At least they apologised and you were havy with this so you had a great meal and just paid the bill.

Personally don't like my steak cut. But that might explain your wait as they probably let it rest the same length of time that it was cooked for, so it doesn't bleed all over the plate after they cut it .
as always good watching darren , agree 25 min not to bad for perfect steak i always have a starter then you don't notice the wait ,presentation could have been more appealing to the eye look forward to next video mate take care and keep up good work ,alan from scotland good luck tonight in the euros folks

100% mention it to another waiter/waitress, we don't give enough feedback in this country when service is poor.
I would definitely have been unable to mention the freebie and that's not fair.....the server should have made sure it was known that you were owed a dessert or other compensation before disappearing!.......however, food looked great!
How quickly do you expect a steak to be prepared, cooked, rested and plated up?

Its POSSIBLE one of the kitchen staff didn't turn up for whatever reason. My ex-brother-in-law said to me (he was a sous chef) that one of the things that bleeps the flow in a kitchen is to be down a staff member.

20mins isn't that bad if the kitchen's busy, but always see the delay as making you drink more, I'd have waited and had the dessert!
Oh, they're allowed to charge a service for tap water. Slicing the steak stops it cooking from residual heat and won't become overdone, werll that's what I've found.
Waited over 40 minutes for my t-bone steak I was not happy but after eating it I was very happy.
To be fair DJ, the server who offered you the free desert should have put it on your tab so that the other servers knew that is what she offered. Would have avoided any discomfort.
Not awkward at all DJ. Yes I'll have that dessert to go because I'm now behind schedule as I had to wait so long for the steak. Job done
Prefer to cut my own steak and keep the juice in it instead of it being cut. And Prefer my chips done in vegetable oil.
My wife hates me arguing over poor service but i do it anyway - i dont want anything for free but if a place falls short and offers an apology via a reduced price then they should live up to it.
25 mins is not a long wait. I think your just getting into a habit of fishing for freebies. Hope u at least tipped the ppl.
25 minutes is not that long of a wait in a steakhouse. Maybe it was because you were hungry that it felt longer. Enjoyable review as always DJ. Thank you 👊🏻
I find if you don't order a starter it can sometimes delay things. Not sure why.
Also time does *seem* to go slower if dining alone and you can he discriminated against. eg:
Poor table by the loos, made to feel awkward 'are you dining alone tonight'. Sometimes no table available despite an empty restaurant.
Take the dessert or pay the bill. Its like a watching David Brent. Also 25mins for a good steak, is decent.

Looked brilliant, can’t wait to try the soho one we have booked after hearing your previous praises. Nice to be offered free desert - I would probably mentioned the offer and said we’re too full - could we maybe have a coffee, otherwise would have paid the bill. Personally wouldn’t mind waiting 25 mins - hate to be rushed in and out when visiting somewhere I’ve looked forward to.
25 minutes when your dinning alone probably seems an eternity.Female Server sounds like an absolute angle.

Steak is actually better uncut, simply because it keeps the heat and moisture longer..... just saying
ALL BAR ONE at Butlers Wharf, the worst ever service 15 years ago. Great offers but my god diabolical service. Over One Hours for food !!!
At least if you have to wait you know it means it is cooked fresh. Looks like it was worth the wait tho’.

That's quality service offering a free desert because of the wait. Quality only just charging you for the steak only DJ.
I would have just paid the bill if I didn't want the desert but then I wouldn't have got the chips and dip knocked off the bill so was worth mention they had offered you the desert.

To be honest with you, DJ, I would have done exactly the same you did, if the was the manager for the servers, she is responsible for communicating with her staff what's going on in the restaurant.

Working in the hospitality industry is not easy, and incredibly poorly paid..
Looked lovely , i reckon i would have reacted the same as you . 25 mins aint too bad a wait if your with company and having a chat and a drink i suppose. Nice of her to offer though .

2 courses for 22.50 would have got me in there, but, being a tight git, 1 wouldn't so none of this would have arisin! Looked good though, especially for £15 so all's well....
I don’t mind waiting for fresh good food but a personal choice I dont like my steaks cut as when rare or medium rare they seem to go colder more quickly. Otherwise looked lovely.
I'd have mentioned the money off to whoever, as Tesco says, "EVERY LITTLE COUNTS"!
