Gary is just knocking these videos out left and right! I love it! Keep up the good work
Thank you ever so much. Some big ones to come!
The best thing about that is the quality remains the same, the only on-script thing in every video he has done is the iconic "let's give it a go" everything else has been done to a high standard. I've noticed with other creators here on CZcams that review food tend to have this cookie cutter way of making the videos.
@@dazzathomas2817 Yeah Gary's reviews actually give depth and understanding about a place/the food, and his rating system makes the most sense out of them all. If everything's a 10/10 it completely undervalues the meaning of a 10 out of 10.
I think some of the cookie cutter work is partially down to the kind of world we live in. I think some of these creators lose their passion/interest in what they first sought-after, and so like with any job they just turn up and do the bare minimum to earn a living, but at the same time they know they can't quit cos it's their main source of income. Or if they take a break the algorithm screws you. It also kinda forces them to compromise on their own beliefs/morals by having to accept sponsorships to make money, who are making money of the back of their own audience.
I fear for his Stomach at times🤣
Yeah he's tight and wants to make sure some videos make maximum revenue for minimum expenditure. He's well used to eating low quality food.
You can tell by the way he eats things with an emergency spit it out at the ready yet he never fails to chew and swallow.
My old mum fractured her spine, came out of hospital on a zimmer. Mum, said I, where do u want to go, I'll take u anywhere u like. Half an hour later we were parked in a nearby town, bypassing several esteemed eateries en route, and she was inching along the pavement towards Greggs for a steak bake with a steely glint in her eye. I had a coffee. It was gopping. But mum was very happy and had an iced bun too.
That's lovely, your mum has her priorities right, the Steak Bake would have been amazing after the hospital cuisine, the simple pleasures in life are underrated! Steak Bakes are annoyingly delicious though!
That's lovely!
Hope your mum is recovering. I'm sure a few more steak bakes will aid her recovery.
Never liked Greggs as to me it’s just belly busting low quality filler , however many people swear by them 🤔…Definitely cheap and cheerful not for me though ..I was brought up in N Ireland back in the 1950s a home were my mothers cooking and baking were legendary and half the kids in the street would sneak in at tea time , my mother never refused one of them 🙏…
Lovely mate, long live xx
I really like Greggs. I’m from the North East of England, the home of Greggs, and we had nothing when I was a kid - back in the 1980’s. As a treat, my family would get me and my brother a sausage roll from either Greggs or Carricks (another local bakery) … probably because they were cheap and cheerful.
I’m 43, married and a consultant psychiatrist, but having something from Greggs still takes me right back. 😊
Great video, Gary.
@@DrMark1981 Do you find that many of your patients frequent Greggs?
Thank you Mark, have a good week
I remember the Carricks in Durham way before we had a Greggs.
Where I grew up in Manchester in the early 1980's we were close to one of the actual bakeries in Clayton, wherever the actual industrial bakeries were you would always find a clearance shop that sold product that had been baked the day before or had slight issues like smudged icing on the vanilla slices. Everything was 1/3rd the price of the normal shops. Every family in the area used that shop, it was the cheapest place to buy bread and family treats that might not have been affordable for many otherwise. As much as I dislike the current Greggs I'll always have a soft spot for them because of what they were.
@@rosemarymee most of them don't last the 2 year waiting list we currently have!
I bet the people serving were thinking “Crikey, this bloke really likes his Greggs”.
The server couldn't believe it when I went up a 4th time lol
@@GaryEats Bruce Bogtrotter with chocolate cake! 🤣😁
I buy pastries, sausage rolls etc from a local bakery who has 2 shops in town. The quality is far superior to Greggs and their prices are very reasonable. Support your local businesses !
This is a local business employes local people puts money into local economy
I totally agree mate, you know it makes total sense. Rights.
Same. My local butcher makes way better sausage rolls, pies, pastries and bread rolls etc
Of course David

Thank you Gary….another brilliant review…..thoroughly enjoyed watching it
Thank you ever so much John
You could review the process of paint drying and I'd still watch it. You're such a pleasant, wholesome person - I'm so chuffed I found you a week ago!
The only time I'd go to Greggs is for a cheap and sort-of-cheerful decaff coffee.
Thank you so much very kind Jordan. Really happy you're on the channel
We didn't expect a Greggs review on Gary Eats but as always...... you gave it a go!

Great review Gary, certainly wasn’t expecting to see you giving it a go in Greggs! 😊x
Thank you ever so much and something a bit different
I will always have a soft spot for Greggs, as my nanna and grandpa lived in Gosforth and they used to take me to the original Greggs on Gosforth High Street when I visited them during school holidays (50+ years ago!). Fond memories. Good to hear that the staff were attentive later on (after your initial rather cool encounter). Without wanting to stereotype, I have to say that all of the Gregg's staff I have met (across numerous branches) in the north of England have been absolute gems. Great video, much appreciated as always.
That is so good to hear, Mark. Hopefully this brought back some lovely memories and thank you very much.
Lucky you got a table at Gregg's. Usually, you have to book months in advance
LOL 🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Usually full of police.
Hence, their size. 😉
Haha that cracked me up!😂😂 thanks for making a crappy day much better!
I think i saw Gordon Ramsey in the background scoffing yum yums.
A very good evening Gary! You seem to be working harder than ever! Loving the reviews as always. Cheers and thanks again for the positivity!
Thank you ever so much Stephen, how are you doing?
@GaryEats Good news is I had no adverse effects after last Mondays treatment which is brilliant. Next one is two weeks tomorrow so fingers crossed 🤞. Have a great evening Gary. Thanks.
I have just stumbled on your videos Gary and I am now an avid fan , keep up the good work 👍 👌
That’s very kind to say thank you and I appreciate you watching and commenting
Great video as always Gary you always manage to amuse yet be nice and fair. Good value food for the price. No Greggs in Ireland but my husband reminded me we were in Greggs in Manchester airport. Looking forward to the next one great work as always from the camera man. Sharon from Dublin

I love Greggs vegan sausage rolls, they're the best non meat ones you can get. Glad you enjoyed it.
Iceland sell packs of them frozen 😃
Nice varied review again 👍
Makes a nice change to review vegan/veg Rosie!
Great review again Gary love how diverse they all are with a fair scoring system
Thank you ever so much Simon
Big fans from NZ here Gary, thanks for the mention! Hope you make it down here one day for a food tour!
I’m really hoping I can visit you next year
In 2013, the government brought in the hot pasty tax, which meant that previously exempt baked goods were subject to 20% VAT. Greggs circumvents this by selling them straight from the oven and allowing them to cool. Saving VAT.
Yep, bit of a shame
the customer is the one who suffers.
yes i always ask what is hot and order accordingly
Never been to Greg’s before. Never had the need. However an interesting revue and like you say they do the job. Warm food which is reasonably tasty and doesn’t cost the earth.
Nothing to eat in their range if you’re coeliac or gluten intolerant…😢
Your reviews are diverse Garry, but always entertaining. Brilliant!
Thank you ever so much John
We buy their products frozen from iceland. All decent stuff and 10% off for us pensioners on Tuesdays.
Good grief - Greg’s and Iceland in the same sentence 🤦♂️ mingin !!! Eat fresh and live long !

Another great and honest review - reaffirms why I've not been to Greggs for years! i wouldn't mind trying one of those vegan slices though , had a vegan burger by mistake at a BBQ once and it was fantastic 😁
Thank you!
Full speed ahead for 200k subscribers - well done, Gary! I've never been to Greggs, and I've lived in the UK
You’ve never been wow, and thank you very much
Last xmas, as a bit of fun, Greggs had a posh pop up restaurant in Fenwick's department store in Newcastle "Bistro Greggs". Menu included Steak Bake with Truffled Dauphinoise Potatoes, Green Beans & Almonds. Spicy Veg Curry Bake, Saffron Pilau Rice, Kachumber. Best of all The Greggs Benedict :- Sausage, Bean & Cheese Melt, Smoked Ham, Poached Cackle bean Eggs & Sauce Hollandaise.
I would have loved to try that
Was the beefy bake on the menu?😅😅
An early draft of the lyrics by George Michael, there.
Matt from Food Review Club ain’t gonna be buying any new watches when Gary has gained all his followers 😂😂😂😂
He's well overtaken him in quality reviews anyway. Loads of subscribers leaving or constantly slagging him off as a lot of them look like paid reviews that he claims aren't. FRC have lost their ethos and when he has them northern Irish ones with him I don't bother watching, bunch of obnoxious mouths, and as for the profanities? Grow up
Maybe same with Macmaster
There’s something about his videos I find quite irritating. Gary and Rate My Takeaway are my favs.
@@OJoRob True. Wish the guy well, but his prancing around thumbnails I found irritating.
Also watch the Durham Vlogger, his vids are simple but I like them.
Matt from the what now? Gary is the OG and can't be compared to anyone
Some fantastic recent videos, Gary. You and the cameraman put so much time and effort into polished products. Any plans to try out Bocca Di Lupo (perhaps followed by an ice cream over at gelupo across the road)? Keep up the great work guys - always looking forward to what’s in store!
Osteria Romana instead David, thank you!
Greggs is a guilty pleasure of mine i must admit. I went in for a sausage roll last week and ended up buying 2 chicken bakes , slice of pizza, another bake , and a doughnut.
Another good video , having my tea watching this . 😁
Bet there wasn’t any chicken in the bakes !
Thank you ever so much
Gregg's pastry gives me heartburn, so I avoid at all costs
Heliobactor pilori. Get tested
Because of the lard, greetings from a fellow heartburn sufferer.
I had a bacon & cheese wrap the other week for the first time in ages just before playing golf and felt horrible the whole round. Never again! (Actually that's probably why the vegan pastry was good on this review - it didn't contain any lard!)
Oh yes. The old Burp and Sizzle routine.
@@VenusDoom891yeh avoid eating Greg’s in general Man you are what you eat
Heya Gary! Late Congrats on 100K!!!! 🎊🍾🎊 I love the type of things that Greggs have, but they don't have them here. The only decent sausage roll is one I have to make myself.
🎉 thank you!!
Good review gary , when we come back to the uk on holiday i will give Greggs a body swerve
That sounds like a great idea, Gerald lol 😂
I love the steak bakes and when they are served piping hot I would give them an 8 everytime. All their products are good value and the shops near me are always busy.Another great revue and a very interesting venue.
Thank you very much, Robert. I do like the bakes but only when they’re hot.
None of the Greggs in Birmingham that I use are restaurants, they are cafés and some don’t have seating.
They are cheap and sometimes not very cheerful but you know what to expect before you get there!
You are right, they serve a purpose and make a fortune doing it.
Completely agree with you and this was like a restaurant, it was huge
Isnt serving your customers the key to business?
The one in Primark Birmingham is exactly like that.

Great to hear you enjoy it
The vegan ‘sausage’ roll are really good 👍
Not sure I'd like to know what's in their veg sausage roll ^^
@@jeanpeuplu5570I mean their normal "sausage" rolls only contain 18% pork content and I bet that's lips and bum holes.

I am really not a vegatarian but it is great to see how you show that there also can be differances between veggie and meat food!
I totally agree!
Great vid Gary, i know Greggs has it's haters but for convenience and price you cant beat it.

I tried one. I gagged on it. Threw it away.

Having left the uk 15 years ago, been back numerous times on holiday, I’ve never been to Gregg’s! Always fabulous quality from you as per usual!
Thank you ever so much David, hope you are doing well
Food is not kept warm as they would then have to charge VAT. [Also extra health checks.] I worked there for 28 years and while things may not be top end [and not meant to be] they are tasty, do the job and Greggs takes food safety very seriously. If you want to bake your own get them in Iceland!
Yes Mark, that's understandable
Unless hot i dont buy from Greggs
and the vat-they charge a standard 20% even if served COLD
@@dirtyharry3479 If it's eat in then they have to charge 20% hot or cold. If it's takeaway then it's zero rated.
I went there for the first time in 20 years They gave me a stone cold pie. I'll never go back. Enjoy your 20p saving

Thank you ever so much
I remember going into bakeries in the 80s and 90s, and everything was bigger and better than what Greggs serves up today.
Before Greggs and supermarkets started putting cheap, environmentally destroying palm oil rubbish in everything.
I understand your point completely, unfortunately, he’s taking over from local bakeries
Everything seems to be in puff pastry too . In Sheffield there’s a chain of pork sarnie shops who sell sausage rolls in shortcrust pastry . Divine
I miss Guildfords and Broomfields, proper old school bakeries!
18% pork content in their sausage rolls 😂
We had Brunch at The Queen's Hotel in Cheltenham today.
Had smoked salmon & scrambled eggs. Best scrambled eggs have ever tasted. Good value too!
Highly recommended.

Gary what a great review I love your channel because you give all places a go as that is the hat makes your channel was step above the rest
We do try to mix things up on the channel Dan all different price points and all different types of food
You are so funny when you preferred the veggie sausage roll to the standard one so unexpected! 😮
I watched a video on another channel, and they said the same when comparing standard and vegetarian sausage rolls from Greggs.
Thank you so much Ronnie
Veggie stuff in greggs is much better seasoned. As in, actually seasoned. Also meat quality is likely questionable.
Greetings again from America, Mr. Eats! I’ve never been to Greggs, but I’ve heard of it often from many British youtubes. I probably could not eat much there, as I cannot have milk or eggs. And, yes, I know, that disqualifies probably around 80% of all British foods. I sometimes think that if I look at a map of England for long enough, my body might explode.
The gentleman asking if you were okay is actually fairly common over here in America, just with some tweaks. Upon approaching a fast food establishment such as Taco Hell - Roadkill Edition - a staff member will frequently meet you halfway and begin jogging/walking along with you. They will ask questions such as, “Is there a voice in your head talking to you right now?”, or “Do you often feel the need to eat paint chips?”, essentially this is a low-key psych evaluation. You’re supposed to fail, of course, and then they let you in. If you pass, they call the police immediately, because you’re obviously there to rob the joint.
Also, I think it would have been hilarious if the donut was piping hot! Like, too hot to even handle.
@@PootWindbreaker They do vegan food, with no eggs or milk used.
I have to admit the doughnut comment did make me laugh

@@sarkybugger5009 should read snarky not sarky
Thank you ever so much Gordon. I will try my best to add that
I'm 35. When I was a kid a sausage roll was 25p. I feel like Greggs has increased it's prices well above the rate of inflation. Obviously still popular but for me, it's also lost it's roots since the days of a ham and pease stottie, meat and potato slice or a rainbow square cake.
I remember four hot sausage rolls for a pound, if you didn't eat them quickly the paper bag went translucent 😂 mmm grease
Yes seems to be the same everywhere
I'm no apologist for Greggs but all catering businesses have seen increases in the cost of ingredients, utility bills, wages, business rates and rent well in excess of inflation. They have to stay profitable, so it's the customer who ultimately pays.
Like your age, things increase. Understand Inflation, firstly.
Compared to many bakeries (although probably better) you have to weigh the cost to taste ratio also. Greggs does a job and a well done one for its market position.
can still get stotties there in north east
54 seconds ago!? Blimey let's goooo...Gary, you're a top bloke.

Having left the UK in 1968, I have never seen or been to a Greggs. I travel back to the UK occasionally and try to find things that still exist when I lived their permanently. I do remember Harry Ramsdens in my hometown, no longer there, sadly. My sister, who lives in Preston, does buy from Greggs, next trip I'll try them. As always, Gary, a useful and informative revue. Don't forget the Gaviscon, lol.
Lucky escape!! Lol
Another great and honest review as we all know we are going to get. Greggs does the job like all the chain restaurants you know what you are getting. Personally I try and support the family owned places.
That's completely fair Douglas, more coming
Before I retired, I worked as a teacher in a centre for teenagers who were 'school-refusers' (some refused to go to school ... for some the schools refused to have them! Many of them relied on Greggs for their 'hot meal' of the day. It was a popular choice because of the price... on occasion I was known to grab a Baked Bean and Cheese Bake... Haute Cuisine?...Of course not, but it was filling, cheap and not unpalatable!
So sad the effect this must have on the child's bodily and mental development. Probably no vegetables or fruit which will affect their food choices for the rest of their lives.
@@sheilagalvin9342 You are right!... For many of the youngsters I worked with, their poor home life, including their diet ...was a factor in their troubled lives
I understand your comment,Wendy. we have to remember sometimes this is all we can afford
@@GaryEats By “we” you don’t really to include yourself. You mean the urban poor who are too disorganised or too disadvantaged to organise a decent, healthy meal for themselves. Only in Britain is this thought to be “normal”. In France, the working classes expect to eat well - and they do.
That should read “you don’t intend to include yourself.” You obviously eat well most of the time.

Great review. As always. We quite like some of Greggs produce. 😊
It’s great value Martin
Gary, you get around mate! The story of Greggs as a business turnaround from a small regional baker to as you say the largest food chain in Britain is incredible.
The reason for your pastry delights being lukewarm is to save them having to charge VAT on hot food, thus making their prices 20% cheaper than rival takeaways offering hot food. I agree a lukewarm sausage roll isn’t a patch on a hot one ❤
Thank you very much for the information. It’s really appreciated.

Former Greggs worker here 🙋🏼♀️. The pasty tax is to blame for the pasties not being kept hot, so that the VAT increase doesn't get passed to the customer. Is a shame as im sure there are plenty out there who wouldn't mind paying the extra for hot pastys, but then it could price some out altogether. When i first started, sausage rolls were 50p, and they were 4 for £1.50. Steak/chicken bakes, etc, were £1, quickly up to £1.10 but you could then buy 2 for £2. Prices have just shot up!
Thank you very much for the information. It’s really appreciated.
@GaryEats Not a problem 😁. If you were ever curious I'd be happy to let you know what it's like behind the scenes 👍👍
At least we all see that lady in the middle really appreciates everything Gregg's do for us.
Thanks for covering all types of eateries Gary, very interesting.

I can honestly say we hate Greggs with a passion , living in the North we have so many artisan bakers we're spoilt for choice when it comes to quality.
We have family living on the Jurassic Coast who love the better climate and vistas but have one major dislike and that's the fact all they can find are Greggs and they miss their artisan pies and pasties so much we run them a supply down twice a year 🤣
Yes they have cornered a market but that's because 90% of the British peasants seem to have a love affair with cheap and nasty food.....I like this because it makes my club more exclusive 🤣
Great vlog my friend and await the hates 😁
Couldn't agree more. Its amazing that the rest of Europe has less well off people but they would never resort to palm oil laden, chemically treated muck which needs all the chemicals to taste of anything - just like our cruel, intensively reared, tasteless chicken which needs artificial sauces slathered all over it to stop it tasting of cardboard.
LOL not sure why but your first part of the comment made me laugh. Onwards and upwards!
@@GaryEats ...everyone's taste receptors are different which is why people's reactions to the same food can vary greatly , good or bad I have a full set of receptors that makes me a super taster and drawn towards more quality food , those born with less receptors who can't taste the difference are lucky as it means they can buy cheaper food 🤣
Greggs - it’s exactly what you'd expect, straightforward and reliable.
I must say, I agree with you Gary about the veggie sausage roll. It is surprisingly delightful, but only when it's hot, fresh, and crispy.
Keep up the excellent work, Gary. Your quality, honest reviews are always appreciated!
That is so very considerate, thank you very much
There’ll always be a need for Greggs - cheap, tasty and there’s always one nearby. Good honest review - we can’t always be scoffing celeb chef food - love that you are prepared to declare that there’s some decent food to be had there - I love their coffee as well. Great review as usual 👍
Thank you Carol
Interesting Gary to my knowledge not been to a Greggs, I now know to go veggy if I do thank you. Just noticed your channel is growing in leaps and bounds, well done.
Thank you ever so much
Our local Greggs must be different to this. Everything is piping hot, almost molten!
Same
I think it's about timing and good luck.
Timing
When you’re near a branch cooplands is a must in my opinion better than Greggs!
did you get kicked in the head by a horse?
Thanks for letting me know!!
Unless you’re DJ Audits the Staff at their main Factory were rude
you cant go wrong with 5 rolls for 1.65 at Cooplands
I’m not a great fan of Greggs but for a quick cuppa and a pastry it’s fine.
Cooplands on the other hand is gross, I’ve been twice and I’m not impressed.
Don’t think I’ve ever had anything from Greggs hotter than room temperature… but it does a job, great video Gary!
Thank you very much
Another cracking review mate,I'm with you on the taste/flavour of the veggie and vegan bakes, they are my go to on a visit to Greggs and I'm a hardened meat eater.Value for money and definitely has its place.
I agree completely with your comment, Paul thank you very much for watching and commenting
I had never had a Greggs despite all the hype until a few months ago. Decided to give it a go and got 2 sausage rolls. Needless to say the weren't great so I probably will never be back.
I understand completely
I never thought I’d see a man of your calibre in this establishment !?
Get off your high-horse.
I try anything, Danny
The few times I go to the Greggs at London Bridge station when I’m catching a train to Kent to see my friends, I get the Chicken Bake because it’s like Campbell’s soup filling coated in a pastry pocket, but you’ve convinced me to go for the veggie bake next time! Thank you Gary!
It’s definitely worth a try, Anna
I have never been to Greggs, another great review cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it
THE GREGGS CARAMEL DONUT, THE BEST DONUT TO EXIST
Agreed
It is as the youngsters say the goat lol
Have you hit your head?
Have you never had a freshly cooked doughnut, straight out of the deep fryer?
