- In this video I walk you through the full installation of Kings 270 awning. This installation should increase my off grid camping and 4wd experience.
This addition of the kings 270 freestanding awning will allow easier and quicker camp setup no matter where I am and increase my camping, overlanding touring experience.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers

Great video!
The secret to any good job is preparation and you covered that well.
One of these awnings is on my project list for my Colorado in the near future.
Cheers mate.
A bit of work involved in this set up.
If you get a chance Have a look at my review video

Awesome content 👏 Beautiful 👏 thanks for sharing 👍 Greetings from south africa 🇿🇦
I think you are the only Australian youtuber that talks about King products.
Good job with the awning. Thanks for breaking this down. It's a bit more work than others make it out to be. But still a diy project. 👍🛠
Next level 💯
That’s because it’s all I can afford and the truck was a budget build and I am not sponsored.
Thanks again

@@ottouring A perfect example one doesn't need to break the bank to enjoy the outdoors. It looks good and does the job.💪👍

awesome Craig, you well fitting it by yourself, great awning for the price
Hi Rolly,
Thanks. I should have got a mate to help me but got it done.
They do have an issue with water ingress and I believe it’s in the stitching at the ends of the canvas bag. However can’t really complain to much at the price.

Great video, thanks for taking the time to show the install.
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. I really appreciate it.
I’ve had it on a couple of months now and will probably do a review in a couple of months.
Hopefully you get a chance to watch more of my content and sub.

@@ottouring Hello, your videos are very nice and useful, at the current stage where you are, my contribution is to upload much smaller videos
Excellent job mate, I like ur attention to detail, the fit looks perfect & the supporting bar mod looks real sturdy & professional. One YT guy reckons to mix up white spirits & silicone into a slurry & paint all the inside bag seams a day before ur final install to further prevent water ingress as the seams are a suspected area for water ingress.
How’s it going now after a few months, any issues? & how well does it handle wind, an updraft wind particularly? As a small breeze bent up my last Kings 270 (with poles) as I was trying to pack it up on the 4th use, so I was pretty annoyed after the effort it took to setup & pack up with buggered shoulders, I have since got the freestanding awning, but haven’t mounted it yet. I’ll have to check out ur other vids. Cheers
Great work fitting it on your own. Though my OH&S alarm bells where ringing off the chart when you were on the step ladder, tippy-toeing on it, and it (step ladder) was slightly wobbling.😲 😁 It's definitely a two-person job. Having said that, I too fitted my Rhino-Rack Batwing on my own. I opened the front & rear doors of my 4WD and used the top window frames as extra hands when lifting it in place. 😁 And I would love a free-standing version but my Batwing is only 5yrs old and still in great condition, that replacing it now would just be a waste of money and gear. But if it wasn't in great condition, I would definitely replace it with a free-standing version. And I know I would be using it more frequently than I do mine now 'coz of the free-standing's ease of setup and pack.
Hey mate, don’t share with work cover 😂🤣
Yeah definitely a 2 man job.
Thanks again for watching

Good video, thanks BUT probably only me but the sound stopped at 5.12 and I'm not that good at lip reading. Got the gist of whats needed though, again thanks...

@@ottouring Thanks Craig, yeap just watched it happily on the big TV and all worked as advertised. Probably my Linux desktop computer playing up... Again, thanks for your insights. Oh, had a look at your follow up vid on the awning, the moisture is probably coming thru the front zip and stitching as you say. How about a vinyl /Plastic bag over the leading edge of the bag?
Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s where it is coming from.
I think the newer ones may have a strip over them as they do in over seams.
As I’m away pretty much every week the awning is always being opened and aired out so not much chance of mould
Cheers
Craig
Great coverage, good for the $$$ how do you get in the rtt with it on???
Hey mate.
How’s things in WA
Yeah can’t beat the price. They do have a problem with moisture inside the bag, I think it’s in the stitching. I will speak to kings as a customer and let them know.
I have had a bar welded to drivers side between ladder racks and use the side window to enter.
Campboss have since released an awning $1600 with access point at rear to get into rtt. They look really good.
Cheers
Craig
@@ottouringI saw a guy on YT that said the same thing with the stitching being an issue for water ingress & his method for preventing this was to mix about 1 part silicone with 1 part white spirit & stir into a slurry & paint it along all the bag seams a day before ur final install, giving it time to cure, says he has had no issues in 8 months after travelling through some really pissing down weather, could be worth a try.
Interesting vid mate ,👍
Nice work getting it up there by yourself cos that ain't easy! I think I'd be putting an extra 2 or perhaps 4 bolts along the mid section for strength cos you will need the support in a windy spot. You want more support at the hinge end for good stability with a 270
I installed a frifta 270 about 18months ago and it was a fiddly install but solid as a rock. I had an ally roof rack which needed to be removed for the install but has a lot of support all the way along.
All the best with the king's version 👍
A 270 is a total game changer for quick and easy shade 👌😎
Hi mate,
Thanks for watching and comment.
I’ve had it up for a couple of months now and it’s great. I love how easy it is to set up and pack up. It’s been great in the wind as well and is very secure.

@@ottouring I'm in SA mate where are you?
Hey mate, out of curiosity is the part that the fab shop made alloy or steel?
Hi mate.
Yeah it’s made of alloy 40mm square tube
@ottouring appreciate it, I am going to have to do something similar mounting wise. I was going to use steel but don't really want the extra weight
@@andrewmcsporran526
Yeah absolutely
From Memory it’s 3mm so it can support the weight.
@@ottouring you don't happen to know the thickness of the 40mm they used do you
@@andrewmcsporran526
From memory 3mm
When you make the bolt holes in the cover. You are better off marking them with a paint pen and heating a piece of wire a bit smaller than the bolt to burn the holes through the cover so it sears the holes rather then cutting. Just my opinion.
Hi Brad, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. I really appreciate it.
I did think of using a smaller bolt and heat it to melt through however decided on using knife and cutting around bolt using the thread as guide.
Hope you get a chance to look at more of my content and sub

8:31 Mate, I hope you are wearing an Apple Watch or something because that was so dangerous on that ladder balancing, and standing on it with one leg at one point. OHS would have a field day with you. Certainly appreciate your video on how to assemble the annex. Why didnt you consider mounting it to the tent to stop rain coming down the gap, or you feel that while the tent is up, its window covers are blocking that and giving you more annex space from the car. Did you solve the water issue in the canopy cover, which I saw on another episode? Great video mate, thank you.
Thankfully I’m my own ohs officer. 😢
Yeah not the smartest move I’ve done.
Is this the 2.5m version?
Hi,
As far as I know they only make one version. It’s nearly 2 yrs old now and I think it measures about 2.4m in the bag.
Cheers
Craig
That would of been a big struggle by yourself, did you get any water in after sealing the bolt holes?
Hi,
It was a challenge. 😂
Yes it does leak. I will be doing a review in about 2 months time.
I believe they leak from end stitching as this is not sealed in any way.
Cheers

Good set up prep for the awning, terrible set up for the steps, accident wanting to happen then you cannot enjoy your awning.
