I LIKE IT ..
The description says "the hydrofoil is the fastest boat in the world."
That should say fastest "sail boat".
That makes a lot more sense. Since if I remember correctly, already Connor's old cat (the one that was challenged by NZ J-yacht) could do +42 knots. And current AC72 cats are good for like 45 knots, prob +50 if they were allowed to have active horisontal stabilisator.
Wow! They cut it so close to the stern of that ferry! The ferry captain must have been pissed! LOL
I wondered that also... maybe they mean that it's a new record for San Francisco Bay?
37.5 knots is not a record. The actual world record for one nautical mile was set by the Hydroptere back in 2009 where they maintained an average speed of 50.17 knots for one nautical mile. Wikipedia has an article "Speed sailing record" where you can find the details.
Now the Americas Cup boats say they are doing over 40 knots in San Francisco (and previously in Auckland for ETNZ and Prada). In the heat of racing.
technology rocks!
It seems like an iceboat, always close hauled because the relative wind is always forward.
Hello, can someone explain why there is wter coming out of the flying hull at the end of the video? Is it variable ballast?
Check out l'Hydroptere records page to verify Marco Nikander's comment.
It is a bit faster than 37.5 knots. (8^> Marco is very correct. The Wikipedia article is a good reference too as it shows the record development.
So when will we start putting foils on cruisers?
i would put a wingsail to this ship. it would probably increase the speed in low wind condition
but hippy love this type of boat.
They do? Why?
how many fishes, dolphins and others was killed by this underwater knifes (wings) ???
No idea, but foils are being installed on everything these days, from sailboards all the way up to Maxi-tris, so more fishies are being sliced and diced nowadays, LOL.
NOT ANYMORE.......... :-(
*PSSSST* your ignorance is showing ;)
