A friend of mine had the honor of sailing the last leg of this extreme vehicle from California to Hawaii. It was very sad to see it abandoned then stripped. This video preserves the days of glory for the crew and the fans of this magnificent creation. RIP Hydroptere!
Magnificent! Inspiring exciting and beautiful. My best congratulations to the whole team, sailors and engineers, and thanks for showing a memory of my hero Eric Tabarly.
Best video so far of Hydroptère!!! would be nice to see some "behind the scenes" videos of the systems onboard and things like tacking. Keep up the great work :)
This is the future of sailing. No longer will it take weeks to cross oceans. I foresee cruising sailing vessels with the ability to retract the foils during rough seas and then to extend them and go 60MPH during fair seas. Thus allowing unlimited range, high speed, durability and comfort all in one. The conventional sailing vessel has the durability, range and comfort but lacks the ability to travel at the high speeds that would allow weather evasion and fast crossings. The next step is to take this technology to a cruising vessel. Imagine the ability to cross the Atlantic in 3 days and sail the Mediterranean for a month and then return to the East Coast USA in 3 days!
Dommage.
Great stuff, I have been watching this project with great interest over the past few years. I'd love to see some footage of l'Hydroptére sailing at different angles as all of the shots seem to be on reaches, no downwind or tacking shots seen yet?
The hydro foil goes on the mast not the drive area. Keel the mast and headsails to to move faster. Pivot point blade keeled mast and headsails relative to the sail area. Then lower the foil when you can use them .
Follow you those who love you? I had that a lot of following or stalking rather,, but where was the love, in your own pockets? Pull them out first. I will be stalking you in here really, so not a follow-up. Spiritual siege.

It is docked right now in Honolulu right outside my living room window (44th floor). Can not wait to see her under sail.
my understanding is that she is abandoned/for sale

5:05 wow
how could u dislike this boat
"Epic" is correct! There's the great Tabarly, too
Eric Tabarly was amazing! I wouldn't race half the things he did with an experienced crew, never mind solo!!
This vessel been impounded in Hawaii Oahu, it is now on AUCTION for 8.000
Alexandre Alves You should buy it! This boat made history! It was foiling well before what all the others....
