Congrats on your new book! I sent you a short comedy sketch a few months ago. I hope you got a chance to read it!
@poetryofreality I could have sworn Richard mentioned visiting Minneapolis in the livestream, but I don't see it on the website. Please let me know if he's coming here.
There is a rise in men's answer to feminism. Is there a possible way Richard Dawkins could talk or write about sexual selection?
What an honour to still be around during a time when Richard is living .
A blessing 😉
Why?
ZER0-- because he's one of the greatest science minds to have ever lived
The voice of reason and sanity in the world.
Dear Professor Dawkins, You and your work are loved and appreciated more than you might know. Thank you for all that you do.
To Dr. Dawkins, I owe my identity as an ex-Muslim and the pride that accompanies it.
Stay safe, friend.
Google's morality police's just asked me about your comment, I chose "excellent" as it is. However, you don't need to say ex-Muslim, not because of the Woke culture, but because Richard doesn't discuss a particular religion, in fact his God Delusion doesn't attack religion in any way or form, only discusses science and tackles a few logical fallacies, it's one of the most respectful books about religion ever written.
@@kavorka8855 Thank you very much indeed!
He doesn’t care

I love Richard Dawkins! I wish more people were as rational as you!
Wish everyone was.
Richard looks healthy. So good to see that.
Yes I thought that too!! ❤
right? He look fresh and in good shape despite his great age.
I wish you were my FATHER Mr Dawkins. So many thanks for your insight and inspiration. you are so awesome!

Proff Dawkins, please come to Mexico so I can attend to one of your lectures. Im 18 and i have read about 10 of your books.
De verdad 10? Yo también quisiera que viniera a México 😢
@@ComtessedArtagnan Si, saludos desde Veracruz!
I am an atheist too . If there is even a slim possibility of a god and heaven/ afterlife then Richard will be going there .He is good to the core . Im still an atheist though and I definitely haven't seen any tool marks or clues left behind by a creator .
The presenter & Dawkin are wonderful people.
Humans are yet to know more about themselves.
Thank you Sir. You changed my life for the better 😊
Congratulations on the new book dearest Professor, and the tour! Looking forward to reading it 🔥🙌🏻
I was excited to hear of the tour announcement, but sadly I do not live anywhere near any of the tour locations, and cannot afford to travel. Hopefully this is not your last tour, and hopefully the next will be in Washington. Thanks for everything you do Dr. Dawkins!
Can't wait to read the book! I'm so thankful for all your thoughts and talks and insights that you shared and continue to share. You made me "see the light" and everything makes sense to me now. I love science and I love listening to rational people like you. All the best to you!!
Please come back to Australia, Richard! 🇦🇺 ❤
WONDERFUL Richard! thank you..and have a great time!
Richard Dawkins is a living legend of truth!
How amazing! A new book and new tour! I hope to attend the Chicago appearance.
Thank you both for this video!
Already bought my ticket, flight, and hotel! Cannot describe how excited I am!

@@rebeccadubois8270 yes!
Love you Dawkins, hoping to see you in Oxford
Wonderful, I hope I am able to attend this event.
The Richard Dawkins Tour website is missing a few of those US dates... Chicago is nearest me, yet still too far away. Will miss seeing you; we're out here in the middle (Midwest). Will most definitely await the new book with great anticipation~~
He would most likely be protested if he went to Oklahoma😢
Sadly I think Richard would be banned from speaking in some of the more religious southern US states. He was banned from speaking at Trinity College a few years back and is not well liked in some parts but I love him .
yes!!! just sat down to eat and this came up! yum!!
Yay! I purchase my tickets just now. Looking forward to seeing Prof. Dawkins on the West Coast!
Fascinating to listen to Dr Dawkins as usual.
Thank you for another interesting Q&A and fulfilling a bucket list entry of one day coming to a talk of yours. Tickets and book purchased. So chuffed it'll be signed and have extra content. Looking forward to the event in Cambridge 😁
Looking forward to seeing Richard Dawkins live.
This is the best news I’ve heard in a while.
Brilliant convo.
Unfortunately, no tour dates in North Florida!
Well Mr. Florida Man. Have you heard of aeroplanes?
Extraordinary discussion with some great insights!
Excellent presentation, thank you 🙂👍
For those struggling to access the pre sales: the promo code needs to be entered in all caps to work on the ticket site, despite how it is provided in the email.
Eloquent and thoughtful interview 👌
Taryn was far too distracted during this one. Excited about the tour! 🤩
When are you coming to South Africa, Cape Town in particular?
Any news on an Audiobook version? I have all of your books on my ipad. Always great company.
Love how English he is: "It's not that exciting!"
Definitely going to try and catch one of his shows.

Do you think often about the people who have been harmed by religion? What can be done for them and who should do it?
A new book!!! Amazing! :D
To have god-like power, but not god-like wisdom, will be a true test for humanity.
I agree, but these technologies will only help to create new Gods. Humans create Gods, after all.
@@dwight4k Judging the entirety of humanity based on the past dozen millennia is unhelpful, we've been existing for hundred of thousands of years and never been this self destructive.
It's been demonstrated that Superstition is part of our evolitionary process, However it doesn't mean that we have to live according to it forever, we have overcome tougher hurdles.
@@JonathanTBE It's already happening. Look at the whole UFO situation. Every year people travel to Roswell to 'celebrate' the 'crash.'
That, to me, looks like a pilgrimage, and people are beginning to that with other locations.
Keep this in mind. No matter how much our social-techonological environment changes, human nature will never change. This is why the self-help industry is booming.
By the way, I think we've been here before. Ask the Hindus what Vimana's are.

Hoping to see you in San Francisco if I can afford a ticket!
Is there anyway one can attend any tour events virtually? Paid of course.
Taryn or Richard's moderator: In future streams, could you please limit repeat chats. It's a time limit or interval setting but not sure which one. Thanks.
Road trip for me!!!! 🎉😊❤
Regarding the ‘are we in a simulation?’ question. If we were to create a simulated world ourselves I think we would think it unethical and cruel to watch this simulated humanity search for the truth of existence, while not disclosing it to them.
When and where is the LA tour ?
When it comes to brain size, perhaps our brains will get smaller and more efficient, just like our smartphones.
Don't think so, we need bulk. It's about the number of inter connected brain cells
I missed South America on the tour list 😢
Someone was asking me why I think the lady is extremely irritating. Now, besides the fact that the question should be why I FIND her irritating (she is irritating me, therefore it is not just an opinion - irritation occurred), here are a few points: She doesn't add anything to the conversation, but inserts herself often. Someone subscribed to this channel probably wants to hear Richard Dawkins, so why wouldn't another person irritate? And also, in this case, she just straight-up types into the microphone, so she isn't even technically proficient.
Question: Is there a species of mammal where the males do not have vestigial nipples?
Is that just a Gen-Z thing to type away in a private chat while one of the world's greatest intellects is talking?
Hallo Richard!
The upside of AI is it might someday replace animals in medical research.
Will AI recreate our dearly departed loved ones ? Is it a form of immortality?
Here's what I think Taryn meant on the other researches on AI models that might represent the human brain better than the current models:
q: is the AI language model based on how the human brain works?
chatGPT: The newer transformer architecture that powers large language models, such as GPT-3 and ChatGPT, is even more similar to the brain in some ways than previous models. These newer systems are mapping how different areas of the brain work, not just what an individual neuron is doing1. Additionally, a study from MIT neuroscientists found that the internal workings of next-word prediction models resemble those of language-processing centers in the human brain. These models, which excel at predicting the next word in a string of text, seem to share similarities with how the human brain processes language2. So while AI language models don’t directly mimic the brain, they do exhibit intriguing parallels in their functioning. 🤖🧠
q: any other breakthroughs in AI based on actual human brain synapses?
chatGPT: Certainly! There have been some fascinating breakthroughs in AI inspired by human brain synapses. Here are a couple of notable examples:
Brain-on-a-Chip with Memristors: MIT engineers have developed a “brain-on-a-chip” that consists of tens of thousands of artificial brain synapses called memristors. These silicon-based components mimic the information-transmitting synapses found in the human brain. The researchers used principles from metallurgy to fabricate each memristor from alloys of silver, copper, and silicon. When tested, this chip was able to “remember” stored images and reproduce them with improved clarity compared to existing memristor designs. The goal is to create energy-efficient neuromorphic devices that can perform complex computational tasks similar to the brain’s neural architecture. Imagine connecting such a device to a car camera, allowing it to recognize lights and objects in real-time without relying on the internet1.
Intel’s Neuromorphic System (Hala Point): Intel has built the world’s largest neuromorphic system, code-named Hala Point. Deployed at Sandia National Laboratories, this large-scale system utilizes Intel’s Loihi 2 processor. The aim is to support research for future brain-inspired artificial intelligence. Neuromorphic systems like Hala Point process information in a way that closely resembles the brain’s neural connections. These systems could revolutionize AI by enabling on-site, real-time decision-making without relying on external servers or the internet2.
Ultra-Fast Artificial Synapse: Researchers have developed an artificial synapse that can process information around a million times faster than natural brain synapses. These resistors are used to create analog neural networks in AI systems, closely mimicking the brain’s structure. While not directly based on human brain synapses, this breakthrough demonstrates the potential for ultra-fast computation inspired by neural architecture3.
These advancements bring us closer to creating efficient and powerful AI systems that draw inspiration from the remarkable capabilities of our own brains. 🧠🤖

Can Richard give us some information about the books on the life of Charles Darwin.
I’ve asked before but I’ll ask again. If you can imagine that ostensibly at whatever point we arbitrarily said that the universe began; from that point forward you could hypothetically identify all of the properties of that expansion and predict it’s motion through space with certainty. But perhaps life doesn’t follow a mathematically decaulable path as it isn’t otherwise inert it moves on its own. Do you think that there might be some kind of non-corporeal evidence of life? Like a field or a radiation or something we have already seen that we will discover indicating some sort of demarcation in the cosmos as a plane showing the life is some kind of matter that doesn’t follow the original path from the point of the beginning. Could there be some sort of evidence showing the difference between space dust or anything else that is not “alive” that is essentially decaying flames from an explosion and things that have some kind of totally unpredictable but not completely random motion. Just on the bias of motion and possibly we can see clearly into the future by being able to see somewhere else that no “unpredictable “ or “random” motion.
Perhaps the footsteps on the moon have some kind of impact on the mat of the cosmos that hasn’t been observed.
Or perhaps you could say that the difference would be identical to or highly comparable to the idea that you could produce a machine process from a computer by attempting to create an artificial intelligence that was truly without any way for us to explain the result of the process. I.E. from a computer : an actually-inexplicably-unpredictable response. Something that was actually decaulable as random.
There must be SOMETHING!
No Canada???? Come on!!!
He said Vancouver, although he might have meant the one in Washington
Did RNA have the replication ability "right off the bat"? Or did different versions of RNA come to exist that didn't have the ability to replicate? What are the chances that RNA would, on the "first try" just happen to possess the ability to replicate? How many times did the environment snuff it out, only for such RNA to eventually come back again?
Why create an entity such as AI which could become self aware, and potentially see us as a threat.
-8:37 - for any artist, the threat of AI taking over their creativity is very real threat - one that will cost them their job ! It’s nothing to celebrate !
Lol how embarrassed he is that she talked the announcement so high up
Me sitting in Toronto, Canada: 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭inhale...and...😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭...
_"you are a book, I am a book"_ Ahh.. observation.. *Books are always written by a Person* that's *ALWAYS!* and that's a 100% observation and not only never by chemistry but any theory that it could is easily falsified as a violation of the second law!
The big problem for Dawkins, something that he by now must be fully aware of and is having trouble to cope with, is the fact that the simplistic dogma that has made him famous is now being compehensively debunked by sound scientific facts.
The post-Darwinist dictum is that spontaneous mutations in DNA create some individuals with superior adaptability who then dominate through selective pressure. This mechanism works beautifully within a given species, but cannot explain speciation. Speciation is a mystery and Dawkins must know this, and yet he keeps pushing his theory because his entire fame is based on it.
I’d welcome views on why Richard has still not been knighted when his work and cultural contributions have surely warranted it. Could it be that his atheism is an obstacle?
I like climate change. It might mean we would be warmer in winter here in England.
Don't forget that it also brings more rain... :)
I must say Mr Dawkins the title of the book isn't very optimistic. I think a title like that could put people off.
it's a theme for him, it has the opposite effect
As Samuel Longhorne Clemens [aka Mark Twain] so tersely yet eloquently put it:
*''Religion was invented the day the first conman met the first fool'*
- The fact that BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of fools have followed in the mental footsteps of the first of the kind, is in my mind a paradox of magnitude, and is something that makes me want to posit that the tern 'Collective Human Intelligence' is a term that's way, way overrated! . . .
I have no problem with stating as a stone cold fact, that every single living human being on this ''godforsaken'' planet is in exactly the same canoe - without a paddle - in that none of us have the faintest idea about the answers to the overarching questions re. our existence on this spinning orb in the vastness of cosmos; ''Where did it all start?'' - ''What exactly did 'start' it? - ''Why did it 'start'? - and so on, and so forth.
Another human commonality is the fact that we all have [mundane, everyday] things, matters and issues we don't know anything about (but that there are all manner of logical and rational answers and/or explanations to, and that's why I love the late Carl Sagan's profound maxim;
“I don't want to believe. I want to know!”

We need to focus on transcendentalism as an aspect of science that analyzes human experience and the possibility of life after death. Having a closed mind is not a scientific stance.
the possibility of life after death has been analyzed and thought about, it just doesnt seem that likely given how life works and the lack of evidence for anything else. Is _your_ mind open to that idea?
@frilansspion That is not a good answer. Particularly when we have continued phenomena that are constantly being shut down by closed minded scientism practioners who are not open to science.
@frilansspion See for instance: Richards, S. Life after Death? An Assessment of Evidence from Electronic Voice Phenomena.
Or, Nagy, E. L. (2021). The Phenomenon of Death and the Possibility of Immortality. Problemos, (99), 48-62.
@frilansspion I mean, just check the literature. The fact that current studies are being rejected by naturalists who don't believe in transcendentalism need to be more willing to explore phenomena beyond the natural organic body. To say that there is no evidence is simply being neglectful.

Read Dawkins delusion.
I think the rise of human intelligence is a challenge to the theory of evolution. There are too many small and large steps that were necessary for a human being to innovate and be resourceful. In my debates with the people they often get stuck trying to bring human intelligence out of the evolutionary process
