- Here’s my full honest review of the 2021 Canyon Stoic. Bottom line: It's FREAKIN AWESOME! However, there are some upgrades you'll want to make. Watch this video for those details. Subscribe for future videos where I'LL PUT THIS BIKE TO THE TEST! Links below for the upgrades I bought.
My name's Tyler and I love mountain biking! I live in the Midwest United States (not typically known for great MTB riding) and I want people to know that us riders here in the Midwest are awesome too! We don't need huge downhill trails to have a good time! I just got a brand new 2021 Canyon Stoic 2 - sometimes called the Canyon Stoic 3 - and this bike has got to be the best hardtail of the year! At least for the price. So I'd at least say the best budget-friendly hardtail of the year! I'm stoked to be able to share it with you guys. I'm also stoked to ride it this summer and let you guys know how it goes!
If you enjoyed this video free to like, comment, and subscribe. I really like making these videos and would be so pumped if the channel grew!
If you live in Southwest Michigan/Northwest Indiana (or really anywhere in the Midwest) let me know. I’d love to hear about any awesome mountain bike spots that you know of.
Cheers!
Tyler

Man you’re just super humble and authentic, I really like your review ! Finally someone who doesn’t complain about components and so on. You just enjoy biking and I enjoy watching the vid! Mine comes in May, I’m pumped !
Thanks man, I appreciate you saying that! I’m pumped yours comes in May! It’s definitely worth the wait!!
This is the review ive been looking for, Someone that has upgraded from a "basic" MTB to a premium entry level bike. All the others i've seen are people that have been on very expensive bikes and felt like theyre werent true reviews. You my bro have helped me on my decision of buying the Stoic. much appreciated!
I've ordered stoic 2 yesterday and I'm super excited. I've just found your channel and it only assured me that I made a good choice! I'm switching from a 2005 custom dirt/street bike which i also loved riding on for over 18 years 😂 I believe Stoic 2 is a perfect upgrade for me in a reasonable price. Wish you best and happy riding!
Dude you look sooo happy!!! The energy you show in the video is exactly what mtbiking should be about, congrats on your beautiful new bike and happy to be your 65th subscriber!
Thanks so much man! I really appreciate that!!
Good on you fella! Glad you are happy with your bike. It has turned my eye towards the Stoic...
Subscribed bro, love how humble your and the genuine feel you get with a new bike. It’s great an all watching some really experienced guys on CZcams, but half of the time they forget what its like to start off. I just ordered the same bike Stoic 3, from other channels, they’re like upgrade the breaks, this that and what ever like I’m golfing to jump off a 20m rock or something haha keep up the great work, I’m going to watch you videos now
Thank you very much for your review! After watching all this high budget productions it is refreshing to listen somebody enjoying a reasonable priced bike.
Thanks so much! I’m certainly enjoying the Stoic!!! 🤙
Nice work bro! Awesome to see you finally got a legit shredder and how excited and thankful you are to have it! We’re going to put that thing through it’s paces this year! 🤙🏻
For sure bro!! So thankful to have it. Can’t wait to shred with you! 🤙
*Looked at a lot of options for getting my **Latest.Bike** . Great find in SAVA. Super light, nice components, really good value as it comes with many options only found in much higher priced bikes.*
I can't wait to see videos of those new wheels in action. Congrats!
Thanks! The weather has been been here for almost a week but I’ll finally hit hitting the trails today!
I've been waiting for mine over 4 months and still need to wait about 1. I love your videos, your the only one that did good recension about this bike. Cheers from Serbia
Cheers man! Thanks for the comment. I hope you’re comes soon! You’re gonna love it!
@@MidwestMountainBike by the way, how does the fork work, couse I read that a lot of people have problems with ot
@@mikirudomir3424 Hey Miki - I haven’t had the bike all that long but as of now it’s been working great. I had to make some adjustments on the pressure and rebound but once I got that where I wanted it, it’s been great. I’m sure it’s not as plush as more expensive forks but it works for me. I’ll definitely update my review if I have any trouble with it in the future. Thanks!
A solid hardtail is all you need, the one bike that can do it all. Nice vid man, love the editing. One of my favourite upgrades to my hardtail has been tyre inserts, mutes the harsh vibrations and the whole ride feels more plush with a whole load of other benefits like rim protection for jumps, sidewall stability etc. Enjoy the heck out of the bike man, im stoic’ed for you
Thanks man! Tyre inserts sound awesome. What kind do you have?
@@MidwestMountainBike Yea they’re great, I’m running the tannus tubeless armor. They have all the benefits of cushcore but are cheaper, much lighter, easier to get on and you can use ur own valves. The even cheaper ones like the nukeproof and rimpact soak up sealant and don’t provide much, if any sidewall support, so i wouldnt recommend them
@@tone1822 I looked those up, they look awesome! I’ll definitely think about getting some of those. Thanks!
Nice review! Enjoy that bike, I was looking at them for a while.
Thanks man, I’m loving it! Have a great day! 🤙
Can't wait to get mine too!!! Greetings from Italy
Yea man, it’s worth the wait!! Greetings from Indiana, U.S.!
Just got my stoic 2 in yesterday barely ridden and I love it!
That’s awesome! I’m excited for ya! I’m still absolutely loving mine over a year later! 👍
Thank you sir! Hope I will get one in summer and btw can you make a video with a backyard jump or something on the stoic I mean a video when you ride a trail or do a jump?
You’re welcome sir! I hope you can get one soon too! Yea for sure, I’m working on a video like that right now. Hoping to post it in a couple of weeks!
Amazing video
same here.. i have a gt!! been lookin on that canyon on youtube review!! thanks for sharing...
No problem man! It’s definitely a great bike for the price!
Awesome! Can't wait for the next video!
Thanks! I can’t wait to make the next video! Lol
Thanks for this review! Currently saving for it!
Also is it a Air fork or a coil fork?
That’s awesome! I had to save for mine too and it was totally worth it! Save that $$$!
@@hiencostello2318 It’s an air fork. Thanks for asking!
@@MidwestMountainBike thank you so much!
Sooo cool bro, i love this bike please more videos!! Best regards, saludos de Machu picchu Perú
Thanks bro!! 🤙 Greetings from Indiana, US!
Had mine since December, so sick
Awesome man! Yea I love it
I think I’m going to get this bike. I was trying to choose between this or the nukeproof scout. From your review, I feel like saving the extra $200 in difference would allow me to pick up a dropper post too.
Totally agree with you!! My brothers got the Nukeproof Scout, and that’s a nice bike too. But I prefer my Stoic 😎
You're killing me!! 😀😅🤣 still waing from 3 months for my stoic!
Sorry bro!!!!!! Trust me, it’s worth the wait!!
Thank you! You are a legend😝🤟
Haha thanks bro! Hope it’s helpful!
rockin the fookers i see. seth wouldn’t be too pleased😂
haha yea! someday I’ll upgrade but I was out of money after buying the bike! And I have to say, they are just fine!
Cool bike man. I hope that I will buy the same by myself. Your review is really useful for people who looking for a best budget mtb. At the same price I can't find a bike with the components like this bike, ,most of them only have short travel forks and the wheels don't have boost thru-axles, which will cause the wheels broken easily if drop or do expert techniques. Anyway, that bike is the best bike a little over $1000.
Thanks man! I totally agree! This is definitely one of the best bikes you can get for the price. I rode it for a full season here and I’m super happy with it!
Awesome looking bike!
Thanks! I’m loving it.
NM. I saw the size. Thanks🤙
Whoups! And then *just this minute* orderen one myself! Hello future of upgradeability and 29" bikes..!
Curious as to how the Suntour will feel, but being more or less years away from biking, a rugged hardtail seems to be my jack of all trades. Happy xmas myself!
Awesome!! You’re gonna love it. The Suntour fork is absolutely fine. Not the best thing ever, but totally fine given the price of the bike! And like you said, you can always upgrade it later!
@@MidwestMountainBike thanks, really looking forward getting out there again! Bike comes so fast I may need to get spiked winter tires! 😁👌🏻
Fork will be interesting, as I've only done Manitou and Fox before, but sure it is more than fine.
really helpful:)
Nice one Kermit... 👍
Umm, not sure how to interpret that… lol 🤣
Hi Tyler. Great video man. I have one question for you. Did you get a change to make a long trip on asphalt with that bike? I am considering buying the same but just wondering if its ok for trips ~ 100KM :)
Thanks!! I have never ridden 100KM before! The most I’ve ridden in a day is around 25KM on hilly singletrack. It was totally fine for that, but I can’t say for sure how it would do beyond that.
Same bikeground, same bike, same feelings ! Components are not high end but they work. Wheels+tyres are heavy but the grip is awesome. This bike is a winner for playful riders on a budget ! Too many old geometry XC bikes in this price bracket and not enough bike like this.
Couldn’t agree more man! Awesome to hear you like it too. Thanks!
I am 6.4 i ride the Stonegrey stoic 3 (its s little better in parts and with 170mm dropper stock ) in size xl and damn i love it so much too but i would rellay Upgrade the fork on yours to like a rockshox Gold in 150 mm its soo much better then the suntour fork and really affordble
I have a few bikes and the stoic is by far the "lowest" end bike but its the bike i have ridden the most this year like everything from long xc/Singeltrack to ligther enduro and harder trail/allmtn stuff its like my Wapon of All choices only dowenside its a little heavy in xl its arround 15.5 kg ...(29 lbs) love your channel i just Found it you got my sub 😃
Thanks so much!! Yea the Stoic 3 looked sick too! But I couldn’t get my hands on one here, so I went with the Stoic 2 and have been loving it. Like you said, it’s not a high end bike but it’s so sick and just fun to ride!! I’d love to do so more upgrades like the fork at some point, just gotta save up the $$ haha. Thanks so much for watching and for the sub! I appreciate it!! 🤙
I want this now
Haha yea it’s nice! Hope you can get one soon!
Great video, where in the Midwest are you located?
Thanks man! Great name btw 😜 I ride in NW Indiana and SW Michigan.
Mine is comming next month🥳
Rock on man! It’s worth the wait!
Lucky guy I was late
@@anastasioskondakos2090 ahh too bad man, but the next ones comming in august or sum right?
@@simondedecker797 yeah :( , it’s been 6 months i last rode
@@simondedecker797 would they be ready to order in August or arrive?
I don't know should I get the M size or the L size because I'm 177cm and just finished 8th grade so I'm growing preety fast. What do you think?
This is too sick! I’m a mountain biker from South Western Michigan. I’m curious to know if you’ve ever ridden the Chikaming trails or the portage Trails?
Thanks! I haven’t ridden those yet but I’ve been hoping to get out to Imagination Glen in Portage for a while now! - I don’t live terribly far from there. I ride at Rum Village in South Bend and at Andrews University in Berrien Springs the most.
@@MidwestMountainBike I live about half an hour from portage and like 10 minutes from Chikaming. I’m going to South Bend Sunday to get my bike tuned up at a shop and ride the Mary Gibbard Park for the first time!
@@locustrollercoasters9349 That’s awesome! Mary Gibbard is a blast! I’ve made a couple videos about riding there. I’m still a newb at the jumps but it’s still freakin fun! I need to get out there with my new bike. They had it covered for winter, not sure if they’ve opened it up yet or not but I sure hope so
@@MidwestMountainBike I got pretty good at jumps after a few visits to rays bike park in Cleveland Ohio. I’m currently riding a marlin five but I’m going to put like 400 bucks worth of upgrades into it to make it slacker and more of a trail bike. Which is definitely going to help in my goal of becoming a more enduro style rider haha
@@locustrollercoasters9349 That’s awesome! I’m excited for you! I’d love to get out to Ray’s sometime - that’s on my bucket list for sure!
Can you review Rock Machine blizz TRL 70-29
Nice video its top 💥💥
I actually never heard of that bike but I just looked it up and it looks nice! Sorry, I can’t do a review though, I just finally saved up enough $$ to buy this bike! Haha
Great video and review. Not much out there on this bike. Im debating between this and a Fezzari Wasatch Peak. I’m 6’ even and after inputting my sizing into their webpage they recommended a medium frame. Im curious about your long term thoughts on this bike. Do you still like the large frame and 29” wheel size?
Hey Seth, thanks for watching! Yea I’ve definitely still enjoyed the Stoic long-term. Literally the only issue I’ve had is a broken crank bolt which is an easy $10 fix. I do still love the size and 29” wheels. I’ve done a bunch of different type of riding from dirt jumps to bike parks and the setup has actually worked well for everything. I don’t think you could go wrong either way, but the L might be better for more downhill type stuff and the M might be better for jumps. So I guess it just depends on what you prefer
@@MidwestMountainBike Thanks so much for your advice and keep up the great work on your videos!
@@sethlingenfelter I'm 5'8 and on a medium. I have to say I love the feeling of control I get from this bike and the size I went with.
@@ItsMeHammie Thank you!
Hey i have a question:
i have watched Some reviews of this bike and Some people say that the fork is pretty stiff and doesn’t compress wel while riding do you also notice this?
P.S. I’m from the Netherlands so dont mind my English its not very good.
Hey Mark! Hello from Indiana U.S.! I will say that I haven’t had any issues with the fork. I did lower the pressure a little bit and increase the rebound a little bit to adjust for my size and weight. You can make those adjustments pretty easily. I just watched this video to show me how: czcams.com/video/bp0nxWZftdI/video.html After making those adjustments I think the fork works great. I’m not an expert but that’s just my opinion. Thanks!
Hello. Please would it be possible to let me know if the position is more upright and relaxed, than sporty? I am 6'2" - 189 cm with a long inseam 93 cm, long legs. However fpry back I need to stay more upright and also for the neck. I bought an XC, but the position is bent down and I want to orient myself towards a trail one and a buget one...which would be Stoic 2 (I don't know what else would offer this package for the money). Can you help with your impression here, towards the riding position? Thanks and much appreciated.
Cant wait for my mid year bonus to get my new stoic 2. I really hope they dont sell out of the large sized bikes before then.
.
.
.
.
Update: they sold out 😭 grand canyon 5 it is then. With my luck they will sell out too.
Hi. Thanks for your video, it's very informative. I want to buy, either Stoic 2 or 3. I'm 5'6 tall (1,72 cm) and, according to Canyon website, I should go for an S size (5'44 to 5'74), but that size comes with 27.5 wheel size and I want 29, wich I can find in M size (5'74 to 6'). My question is: Is that important the frame size?? Could it be a big mistake getting a M size? I need help, please!
try to calculate with the reach mm, for example, 174 = 5.68 so 174*2.45 or *2.50 or 2.55 are ur reach size depends or ur conduction
Wait for iiiiiit.... haha!
Yes! Glad someone else appreciates Psych!
thanks man. What is the size of the front chain ring? 30 tooth?
Yes it is 30T!
I am saving up for the stoic 4 i just need another 200 euro is it worth the upgrade from 3 to 4
Nice man! That’s awesome, I’m excited for you! Going to the 4 you’ll get the 12 speed drivetrain, a 170mm dropper post, and the Pike fork. In my very humble opinion going from 10sp to 12sp isn’t entirely necessary. I truly find everything I need in the 10sp. The dropper post is 10,000% worth the upgrade!! I purchased a separate one after buying the bike and it so worth the money. And I’m sure the Pike fork is awesome but it’s hard for me to say for sure since I’ve never tried one. Honestly I’m really happy with the fork I have but I’m sure the Pike is nice. Overall, I love the bike I have! But if you’ve been saving up for the 4 I’d say go for it! The green color is pretty rad too. Cheers man!
I said that its an huge upgrade from 3by8 i have a single speed
You said this is a medium size bike?
how do you "fish" the dropper post cable on the bottom bracket?
It actually wasn’t too difficult. There’s a large opening at the bottom of the frame by the bottom bracket, so you just feed the cable out through there, then bend it a little bit and feed it back through the opening and up through the seat tube. It took a couple tries to get it right but wasn’t too bad. Good luck!
@@MidwestMountainBike As I understand it takes 30.9 with 150mm max dropper post, correct? Thanks.
Is it easy to configure front brakes to be on the right side?
It shouldn’t be a problem, the cables are long enough. On top of that, I think I’ve heard that if you live in a country that typically sets the brakes up like that then Canyon will just ship it that way
Hey can you maybe do a suspension test?
That’s a great idea! I’ll try to think of the best way to do that and show what the fork is really like. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
@@MidwestMountainBike maybe you can do Some drops if you are comfortable with that or do Some slowmotion shots on a mountainbike route. So we can see the suspension working.
@@Hamark Awesome idea. I’m already working on my next 2 videos but I’ll try to work on a video like that right after that!
@Mark Hamaleers Hey man, somehow I accidentally deleted your comment on the fork video like an idiot! 🤦♂️ Sorry about that. But yea for sure, I was glad to make it. It was a fun one to make!
The are no pedals included how on earth did u get them
Yea the website said no pedals included but it ended up coming with some. They were terrible tho and I wouldn’t recommend using them!! Lol
Most people forget they get a category 4 bike for under 1000 bucks. Its just LEGALLY safer then a category 3. If you break a cat 3 bike on a jump they just say yeahhh but they aint made for that so no warranty. Cat 4 bike they " know " you do jumps with it
That actually makes sense, I never thought about that!
hi, when you routed your dropper post how did you get the cable into the seattube?
Thanks for watching! I routed the housing down the top tube and out of the hole at the bottom of the frame near the BB, then loop it back into that hole and up into the seat tube. I put a little bend into the housing before going back up the seat tube and it worked fine after a few tries. Good luck!
@@MidwestMountainBike thank you for the advice! that took an unbelievable amount of time but I've got it all working and I love it :)
@S am Awesome! Glad you got it working! You’re gonna love the Stoic! Have fun!
@@MidwestMountainBike haha I've had the stoic since may but the dropper upgrade has been long overdue!
what about for commuting, is this a good option?
I would say it’s totally fine for commuting, it’s nice to have a 10sp drivetrain to make it easier to get around. But I would say it’s better suited base on geometry and tires and such for trails and dirt jumps for sure. Thanks for watching!
I just got my STOIC 2 I'm close to L I'm 1m77 it's good or not for my size , sorry im from belgium 😊I'm from belgium we measure in centimeters
Thnx
For this height website seems to recommend M size. How is L going for you?
When did you order?
Hey Fabian, I got an email that it was in stock on March 20, ordered it right away, and then received it on March 29th!
Hi bro I am confused now, what is the different between stoic 2 and stoic 4 ??
And what’s should I get lol ??
Hey bro! At least in the US, the Stoic 2 and Stoic 4 are the same frame, but with different paint colors and components. To me the biggest difference is that Stoic 4 comes with a dropper post, 12 speed drivetrain, and a nicer fork. For me personally, I was fine with 10 speed drivetrain and a “lower quality” fork, so I went with the Stoic 2 and just installed a dropper post later. I think I made the right choice for me but you do you man! You’ll love the bike either way!
what size is the bike and how tall are you?
Hey, thanks for watching! I’m 6’ 1” and went for the size L. I think it’s a good size for me 👍
Fooker pedal eh..i remember seth reviewing that pedal😅
Haha yea that’s what made me buy them lol. I know they’re not as nice as the Race Face ones, but it’s all I could afford at the time lol
What is your height?
I’m 6’ 1” or 185cm.
Would it be possible to run all the cables through the frame? I would prefer a cleaner look.
Also I would love if we could have a conversation for the bike I have been saving every money I have from december to but it it would help me a lot if u could give me a bit of more for this bike
-thanks a lot
How is a bike like this on pavement?
It works totally fine on pavement. The tires are pretty aggressive and really made for dirt, so they’re not perfect for pavement, but they work fine. Thanks!
Your GT isn't terrible why wouldn't you save more for a full suspension
Because I’d still be saving a year later and probably another after that! 🤣 I’m sure a full sus would be awesome but I honestly love the Stoic hardtail
@@MidwestMountainBike I was about to get the stoic. But I pony'd up for a yt IZZO. No regrets.
