For this set Xander can also run Distant Def, I made this video before Celica was released so that's why its not listed there as an option but you can use it on him for great use.
Close def is not a very good option because he already has an excellent defense, what he needs is Res to take hits from mages and that's why Distant Def is a really good option for him.

Elise can run Hone/Fortify Cavalry to boost Xander and keep him alive. It could work.

Adult Tiki can get Distant Counter too via her weapon and is pretty common. She is a pretty good character. The only things that bring her down are bad speed and Falchion weakness.

I'm just not sure if I agree with this unit being better than Zephiel. Zephiel is a beast. This distant counter built in may probably doesn't work, because it can't fight back a mage, and a physical unit generally attacks from a close range. Not sure, but hey, I'm a Zephiel lover, so ..
You are underestimating Siegfried's ability. Distant counter does work because he wins 1v1 vs every single colorless unit in the game - prntscr.com/f3c2we
He can also kill every green mage in the game except for F!Robin who nobody uses - prntscr.com/f3c3e6
He also kills alot of red mages too other than Tharja - prntscr.com/f3c3ng
Zephiel cannot do that unless he devours a Hector for Distanct Counter and for doing that he still needs to have quick reposte and needs to sacrifice Wary fighter which means that he gets open to double attacks by literally everyone. Zephiel cannot work as a bait to kill unit to an extent that Xander does because of his poor 1 movement.

Maybe they are just different? Few units can 0HKO Zephiel, and I always use it to lure someone and then revenge with my allies. The Xander is so player phase oriented, right?
I'm thinking about upgrading my 2nd Zephiel for a +1, or I could do it with Xander. I'm thinking.

Both of them are similar because both of them are enemy phase-oriented units. However, Zephiel can be more player phase-oriented with his brave sword+ set something which Xander can't really afford to do due to lack of Wary Fighter. Merging Zephiel only gives him +1 to his HP and Defense.
If you are Zephiel lover you should go for it actually however if you plan on using Xander on your main team/horse emblem then go with Xander.
People are talking about a "horse" team. But what about a "armored" team, with "goad armor" from hector, and Effie + Zephi + Hector on it? Would it be worth?
Yeah if you have got Effie and Hector then Zephiel works amazingly on an Armour emblem team!
He takes like 0 damage from most attacks after fortify armors boost.

I was thinking of giving him Eliwood's Ward Cav since he occupies the same Red Slot as well as Heavy Blade (if I ever pull a second Ike) because of the frequent buffs he will receive to his Attack. Any thoughts on this?

Hey man, just to let you know, i really appreciate the Summoning Vids you have uploaded, you actually made me want to buy orbs and i thought id get unlucky but i finally decided to buy some and got 3 Hectors, 1 azura (FINALLY), 1 ryoma and 1 Julia 5* so blessings to you man! and keep going with new inheritance builds! (i watch them when i get the heroes u have listed) so keep em coming!
Xander is pretty terrifying. The only way I was able to beat his GHB was with a clutch desperation Linde.

Shame Zephiel didn't get a built in distant counter into his signature weapon. They seem to have missed that memo as majority of the other signature weapons stay true to their function in the main series. Oh well can't have it all right? Edit: Also apologies but thank you for all the information you took to the time to share very informative and helpful as always!
godknightomega it's for balance issues. they're not going to give like 8 different characters distant counter
The Jerkinator I see what your saying, still every other hero has a weapon that is basically the same in functionality as their main titled game. Ryoma and Xander had a 1-2 range weapon and that carried over here and Zephial being a bipedal tank with poor movement could have seriously used that built in distant counter unlike Xander.

Im definitely going to use him in my Arena defense team, so Im going to teach him Fury 3 (As soon as I get a Hinata), Vantage 3(which in my opinion is better in defense teams) and ThreatenDef 3, as for his special I was thinking that Sacred Cowl may be a good option for him because of his low res. GonAdventures probably Xander. Marth without sword breaker is pretty much instant death since it is quite common. That is if you intend to use him against red units

+Phoenixmaster1 I have a question regarding hone cavalry, fortify cavalry and similar C slot skills. Do these slot C skills effect the character who has them equipped himself? Or does it only effect those units around him?

I wish for ranged counter weapons they actually had a animation like RYoma/Hector shooting lightning, Xander shooting darkness, or Ike throwing his sword at you. But that would mess up skill inheritance wouldn't it
Ike doesn't throw his sword xD, well, if he use Aether, he throw his sword to the air, but only if the enemy is near to him. Ike when he do a distant attack, his sword make something like air slash, like the distant attack animation of King Zephiel. Anyway, that would be funny if Ike throw his sword to the enemy xD
Never played the games with Ike. I was going off of the Ragnell from FE awakening that your units just throw like a spear. You have to fight Ike's descendant and if you beat him you get him and the ragnell
Maybe it's not optimal, but Clarine can run fairly well beside xander, being on horseback means she can keep up with him, heal him to keep him in quick reposte range, and swift-winds balm takes his speed up to 28 before a buff you can put in her c skill slot.

It would be insane but if you can afford it give him either Warding Breath (Radiant Ike) or Fury. Quick Repost or Vantage, Threaten Spd or Spd Smoke, or for Horse Emblem you can a Huge horse buff or allow two horse team mates to eun Horse Buffs. Bc I hate giving a healer a spot I like to use all other healing methods, Aether (Young Ike) or the more cost effective Astra. Ardent Sac. Or reposition. His Res. Has to be addressed as much as possible with having D. Counter an being a constant target by mages.
I chose to upgrade Xander to a 5* unit (just before making this comment), so now I am watching this guide so I can hopefully put him into usage in one of my Arena teams (once I actually get that going)
yooo, your skill inheritance plan is almost same as mine as I'm planning to use Vantage instead of Quick Riposte. Fury can take Xander down to the HP threshold, though the only problem is I cant double counter a lot of units..
Hmm I was thinking of upgrading Xander but jut recently got a ryoma which I invested into a lot Already(life death, vantage , threaten def,moonbow) which do you believe is better to use? Want to know before I make decision :).
Whats the best way to increase his longevity? Furys damage can take a huge toll very quickly if he's countering a lot of units and he falls out of QR range fast too. My Nino has fury and she can't take any hits because Fury drops her tiny HP pool so fast.
Pretty much what I expected from Xander's stats. Amazing and very bulky! I am excited to train him up! I love Xander!
Honestly, I feel like the wait for Xander has been well worth it. I don't have 20k feathers currently to upgrade him, but Xander is a pretty fun unit to level up. He's next on my list for 5* promotion for sure :)
Phoenix what skills would you recommend on a camilla ?? I have Michalis but a single hit isn't enough to manage some units on arena
I think Xander with fury, speed seal, and hone cavalry from another horse unit is very strong. It gives him up to 34 speed, so units need 39+ speed to double him (not many units with 39+ speed). And with quick riposte and moonbow, this makes him so hard to defeat because of 34 speed and he will proc moonbow which will most likely defeat a unit when attacked.
Phoenixmaster1 would you consider Zephiel a better unit than Xander if he had access to Ranged Counter?
I will admit to having an incredible amount of luck. I used my left over orbs to pull 7 times on the Hero Fest banner greens only and got 2 Hectors... I'm considering giving my Zephiel Distant Counter and building a team around Zephiel/Hector with dual Armor buffing. Thoughts?

Relatively hard than Zephiel map but it is easy even with 4 star units.

Better than zeph, best ghb free unit of his time an in my opinion still holds up nicely today if one focus's entirely on that def an atk which essentially makes him a cav version of Lukas but red. Which is epic because it lets him harass all them edelgards pretty well just be sure to rock that bigness on him for an explosion so big Arden will smile.
I've been hearing alot about Horse Emblem, and I was thinking of doing something like it called Dragon Emblem. The team probably wouldn't last long in arena because Marth, Lucina and Magic Checks, but hey, it'd be fun. Only need Y!Tiki for it, because I was thinking of using Ninian, Fae, and either F!Corrin or Nowi.
Dragon emblem lacks hone dragons skill so I think it's least viable and easiest emblem team to beat in the game unfortunately :[

So if I wanted to use Xander in a Horse Emblem team, Reinhardt and Cecilia seem like obvious teammates for him, who also are great in Horse Emblem. But I'm not sure who to pick for my fourth slot. I don't exactly have the greatest selection of options remaining. Another sword seems redundant, so Eliwood and Cain get a pass. I sadly don't have Leo. I could perhaps run Sully or Jagen, but neither of them seem too great. Maybe Jagen's high Res would provide a niche anti-magic specialist, but I don't see him accomplishing anything else. I also could run a Frederick (either +Spd/-Res or +Atk/-Def) for a physical Green option, but having two greens doesn't seem ideal, and then he's also really slow in a team that's already slow pre-buffs, which might get risky. And... for what it's worth, I also have a Clarine as a mounted Healer, but... she's a healer.
Long story short, Horse Emblem team, 4th slot, dunno what to do with it.
+Laggalot101 Go with Fredrick, you want a secondary defensive backbone on your team that isn't another mage. If you feel uncomfortable about 2 greens, run Ursula over Cecilia, she wins way more matchups overall, so I personally run her over Cecilia.

I went with what I think are better units. Order of their release has nothing to do with it but it might be that they progressively release better units in every GHB.

Would've liked Camus better. He has a distant counter weapon, is a blue unit, and has Granni's Shield. Haven't had a strong f2p blue since Ursula.
Plus this gives story evidence that Veronica no longer has Xander by her side when he said he would stay. Camus wouldn't have muddied the plot-water with his GHB.

hey man quick question, so i've almost finished my ike and reinhardt builds, but i wanna put quick riposte 3 on ike and death blow 3 on reinhardt, but i only have a 4 star subaki for quick riposte and 4 star effie for death blow (don't have a klein and don't see myself getting him any time soon, if at all). who should i promote for skill inheritance first? effie or subaki?
None, never upgrade units just for skill inheritance fodder unless they have something at 5 star which is exceptionally better. The difference between Quick.R 3 and 2 is marginal and Death blow 3 and 2 is also marginal. Save your feathers imo. Hope this helps.
that's what i thought but death blow 3 helps reinhardt win 11 more matchups than death blow 2, so that's kinda what makes me consider upgrading effie as i don't really need the feathers for much else atm
Distant counter added to any weapon is a plus for me. And even though he's technically better than Zephie...I still love Zephiel.

Is Threaten Spd a good substitute for Threaten Def with Xander? I don't have a Peri.
Now I just need the feathers to upgrade him. I think the team I'm gonna stick with is Reinhardt, Xander, Olivia and a bonus unit/wild card. I know horse emblem is a thing but I think Reinhardt and Xander can deal with pretty much the whole roster.
I don't have the 20k feathers yet, but rn I have him paired with Cordelia (Escutcheon/Rally Attack/Life&Death/Poison Strike/Spur Attack) and a 4* Nino (Fury/GTomebreaker/Fortify Res), and... I'm honestly not even sure what to have as a 4th person. These 3 do so well. Like, I've been running a healer for Training Tower, but I might spec out a dancer with Hone Speed and Wings of Mercy to assist. I've just been liking the healer though, idk.
+llGalexyll Last slot will usually be a bonus unit for arena, but if you just want the best team and don't care about score, I would recommend a unit that can handle mages, since the team you listed has fairly low res overall. I would specifically suggest Nowi because of her very good bulk on both sides, and she handles red mages fairly well (while Xander and Nino take on green and blue mages respectively).
Jason Huang // Yeah, I'm planning to run a bonus hero when I'm using them on offense. Defense though, I like your suggestion of a mage tank. I have a Nowi specc'd out with TA and Vantage, but she's -res/+def and doesn't really have anything to boost Nino with (aside from her Rally Defense). If anything, I just got an Azura, but... No distant counter obviously. And those are my only 5* blues, with Cordelia.
+llGalexyll Even with -res, she will still be able to take one hit from red mages and OHKO them back most of the time. +Def also helps her other role in dealing with physical reds, so you're good

Does Eliwood do the Death Blow set better? I feel like Durandal's built-in Death Blow 2 with another DB3 on it makes him better as an initiator than Xander.
No, Xander is better than Eliwood both in or outside of horse emblem but Eliwood is a better player phase unit.
So now that I have Xander, the idea of Horse Emblem looks a lot more appealing to me overall. I have a Reinhardt and Gronnblade for Cecilia, but I can't think of a fourth team member. Any suggestions?

What about draconic aura? I know that moonbow always activate because of quick reposte on the first hit he takes (when focused on enemy turn build) but draconic aura does more damage and gives him considerable better match-ups on the long run. What's your thoughts on this?
Draconic is aura is not recommended because Bonfire outclasses it as it gives him 18 points of additional damage as opposed to 15 when he has Attack +3/Fury Equipped.

Yeah replace Eldigan with Xander. Frederick can also be replaced with Titania if you have her for a mixed defensive back bone.
I do have Titania, but I like Fredrick a lot better because of his higher atk. I also got a very good nature on my Fredrick, -def +spd, so he puts in work :)

Right now I'm doing a Ranged Emblem Team consisting of Julia, Leo, Takumi, and now I'm trying to get Linde
I went Ignis instead of bonfire for a OHKO on pretty much anyone on player phase from full health unless they're armored or other bulky units with color adv. I think he'll be able to take out 2 units by himself with this.
I have Death blow, Hit and Run, and spur defense, Bonfire, and Rally attack. He outclasses even my Ryoma now.

Idk about you, but i think it's worth mentioning that you can inherit Threaten Def from Raven as well
No point in mentioning Raven or any 5-star unit as a skill inheritance fodder.
Most of my viewer base is F2P players, nobody is going to fodder off their 5-star unit that easily.
Is there a large difference between Quick Riposte 2 and 3? I have a 5 star Subaki from a banner and I'm F2P so I won't be getting him again any time. I'm not sure if it's worth eating him if the advantages are minor. I'll be using Xander mainly on a horse team so I'll probably get to use QR once anyway.

Do you guys know what Quick Riposte is supposed to do exactly? I don't quite get what it does from the in-game description.
Quick riposte will enable your unit to counter attack again regardless of speed when attacked (assuming the unit can counter). For example, Kagero hits male Robin, if Kagero has 5 speed more than Robin, Kagero will double Robin, but Robin can't. With quick riposte, Robin can double back at Kagero. Quick riposte is a safe bet for a unit to guarantee a double attack back at the opponent. Do keep in mind quick riposte works for both slow/fast units.
5-6 HP difference is not big. Don't sacrifice your only 5 star Subaki when the difference is so marginal.
A good guide but what do you think about wary fighter so he can't get doubled by mages ?

Here is my Xander:
Slot A: Defense +3
Slot B: Quick Riposte 3
Slot C: Threaten Attack: 3
Special: Ignis
Seal: HP+3
With a total of 46 defense from both his A Skill and my Abel's Hone Cavalry, Xander will reach a total of 36 extra damage when Ignis triggers. Thanks to Seigfried's 1-2 range on counterattack, he's able to retaliate twice due to Quick Riposte and can cool down his special trigger VERY fast while taking minimal damage from anything that isn't a mage or dragon. Because most enemy units will double him but hardly get any damage on him, he'll have Ignis ready within a turn at high health because of Quick Riposte allowing him to get an extra attack. With his already great attack maxing out at 40, his damage will spike significantly more. Threaten Attack is put there to top it all off and ensure he takes little to absolutely NO damage in some cases from anyone that isn't a mage.
don't know why you run ignis with quick riposte, it doesn't proc in 1 turn
If someone doubles him and he two shots them, the battle will result in 4 actions which is enough to have Ignis proc the next turn.
I prefer a guarantee kill with a 2-3 turn special, probably personal preference

and Reposition and iceberg. That's what I went with on my Titania and that's what I would recommend.

Between him and Camus and Gunthra and our new Veronica, make these two viable again. With D-D and Veronicas buffs he isnt bad at all. Him an Camus still upper tier with Horse Emblem due to DC. Not hard to build around a good weapon thats unique. Blazen skills will help with the spd, gave mine a def,spd bond skill long ago an its made him work. Dont know if I wanna reinvest being I have new amazing units like Laev, Lewyn, Helbindi. But as I said Unique bc of DC makes them hold a spot.
I just gave Xander swap. I have a 3 star Jagen. I'm only going to keep him because I need his fortify cavalry passive.

Is Fortify Cavalry a good c skill for Xander? Also I have no idea who else to put on my horse emblem team. I have Olwen, but that is pretty much it.
Pranav Sivaraman Cecilia and Ursula are both viable free units for a Horse Emblem team.
If it's about Olwen, go with Hone Cavalry.

I have an Olwen, my new Xander, and a Cecelia for my horse emblem team. Who would be the best fourth unit? I have Peri, Bunny Xander, Abel, Sully, Reinhardt, Jagen and Gunter.
+joshua Garcia Easily Reinhardt. Though I would recommend benching either Olwen or Cecilia for a unit like Fredrick or Titania. It's not really good to run 3 mages, and doesn't efficiently utilize buffs of a horse emblem team.
Jason Huang A life and death Olwen with blade is better than death blow Reinhardt with blade on horse emblem, but I'll look into getting Fredrick
+joshua Garcia I think you miss the point of Reinhardt. The reason he is so good and pretty much a staple on every Horse Emblem team is because of his amazing atk along with his initial Dire Thunder. Even with buffs, Reinhardt actually wins more matchups with Dire Thunder than Blarblade. He is also the only unit that gets Goad Cavalry in the entire game and doesn't require the presence of buffs to kill, making him staple on every team.
I might use him for my cavalry team in place of spring Xander
but I'm not sure if I upgrade becouse I really want a Lloyd

I already have Ike and ryoma, and the only cavalry 5 star I have is -spd +res Titania. Should I upgrade xander to 5 star or wait for other units?
Ryoma is better unless you want Xander for horse emblem.
I like that they gave him Armored Blow.
Why?
Because he can actually get that in Fates with the Great Knight class.
Some units in this game have skills that they can't get canonically, and it bugs me. "Some".
I don't know much about the PvP meta, but goddamn Xander is a monster in the main storyline.

I wouldn't make banner reviews for 'Battling X Grand Hero' banners because those units have been in the game for a long time and people already know where they stand. Banner reviews are only for the new units =]
If you still want my opinion, I wouldn't recommend you to pull from this banner even though it has Linde. Wait for the voting gauntlet banner and there Linde will have better odds of getting summoned!

Talking about PH: Should I get my 4 star Xander to lvl 40 and then get him 5 star? Or use the 3 star Xander to lvl 20, then 4 star lvl 20 and finally 5 star?
Always level any unit to level 40 to get max SP no matter what rarity they are.

No, don't give him Renewal. Quick Reposte is a better Slot B skill.

When I read that Xander was announced for early May, I thought, "Wouldnt it be funny if Xander ended up being my first fates royal?" (Kind of like Gyarados being your first shiny) AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW?
Anyway I recruited the 3 star (no way im beating the four star one) and five starred him and gave him astra from virion so we good.

You shouldn't keep Armoured blow because you will miss out on a lot of KOs.
Armored Blow increases his already crazy high defense.
In my opinion is overkill.
