Only on SciCraft does someone say “we have millions of these” and you know they’re not exaggerating
Haha
it might even be an understatement
@@epschway1052 true bruh if possible they can get billions and billions of blocks mined
Not really… There are much bigger servers
I can actually say the same and I play on a single player world…
Thanks so much for setting up the contest, if it wasn't for said contest, who knows how long it would've taken to uncover that rail trick and add it to the wealth of TMC knowledge
Your build was awesome
hey! i was watching ilmangoes stream when it came on, i'm telling you if he made a poll to decide which farm to build u would've won in a landslide
i was going to say if you could make a tutorial for that farm, but of course the geode layout is different everytime  rip
You really made a good design out of my idea, using tnt minecarts to blow up the shards and usning rails to prevent the blocks from getting blown up
Awesome !
Tnt minecarts don't blow up blocks with rails on top of them...
Wow, never knew either (not that I ever used tnt minecarts at all tbh, thought they were expensive and useless)
Crazy design indeed !
ikr ncolyer's crazy, i never would've thought of that
well i thought of using water to break them lmao
@@deepimageai9646 it was velwy's idea to use tnt carts to break the amesthyst, i just executed it and used the rail trick
Definitely not useless, they're the most effective way to build a death trap if you don't mind blowing up the items. But outside of that, yes, they're pretty useless.
@@ItsaJuraff death trap in survival, to blow up myself ? 😁
@@YounesLayachi If you're playing singleplayer, I guess lol. I designed a few traps based on TNT minecarts that were meant to be used on an "anarchy" server I hosted that had a small world border on it with hacking and x-raying banned.
They're great because they explode instantly, and chain together to cause much more concentrated damage than is possible with TNT.
Because these traps can create multiple explosions when multiple carts are stacked together, the trap can be hidden behind walls without losing much of its damage potential. The first explosion completely exposes the player to the subsequent explosions, maximizing damage. The only catch is that these traps almost always destroy the items, since the last explosion is rarely the one that kills the player.
Compare this to end crystals, which require a distance of zero and perfect exposure to reliably kill a player in full protection 4 netherite. Achieving this often requires you to build a machine that funnels the player into a kill chamber. This isn't a deal breaker, but it increases material and time investment, and also introduces additional components that can break or give the target more time to escape or survive. If the player thinks fast enough, they could water bucket, block clutch, throw a pearl, equip a totem, or even eat a notch apple or chorus fruit if your trap is slow enough. Often, the faster the time to kill, the more reliable the trap, and TNT minecarts are the easiest way to reliably build traps that kill quickly.
Thanks ilmango for hosting the competition! The experience was great and the community was awesome!!
Also if someone wants to give it a go, you could theoretically break 9 more crystals out of my design if you had set up some flying machines opposite each other to meet in the middle and return without getting stuck. If you go for it, all I can say is… GL
Wouldnt it be possible with hony ? I guess you most likely already tried it but why not ?
@@bluelemon243 If you are talking about the double flying machine approach, you could use honey but it would probably be better to attach a non-sticky block to each flying machine on the front so it prevents them from touching. While i was testing, honey prevented items that landed on top from being collected.
What about a block stuck further back on the flying machine? It wouldn't go the full length, but far enough to punch out one crystal.
@@Erik-pu4mj that could work. Another idea is a block further back that triggers the self returning mechanism at an arbitrary distance.
I feel like adding an immovable block or two to stop flying machines mid-geode could result in a net positive amount.
The 3D-projection flying machine is so elegant. The rail one is quite fun too!
"what this design excells in is simplicity" bruh moment
XD

I can’t believe he didn’t give us just a little taste of the sound of the ghasts dying
Yeah, I was hoping he would turn it up a little. Ghast farms are fun!
Xisumavoid built the same design on Hermicraft Season 7. You can destroy your ears there if you wanna :)
I feel like the design with the flying machine would be the easiest one to adapt programmatically projecting the position of budding amethyst on planes, very cool ideas from everyone
Exactly my thinking. Seems like the way to go for any amethyst farm in the future
To get the last few amethyst shards maybe attach a piston at one side where no flying machine will pass by and activate it with a redstoneblock attached to the flying machine? Maybe this can be an improvement to get even better rates.
The problem with that is all of the sides on the same plane of the block in question will be getting punched thru with a flying machine because of the budding amathyst block the cluster is attached to, so that only leaves one option for placing that extra piston, and that's directly facing it and the budding block. Could work depending on what else is going on in every other axis, but if there's any other clusters that need to be harvested in those axis it would be a moot point
18:07 "Just have this little ghast farm". Ah yes, little.
one would even say "tiny"
Wow I really liked the concept of the farm contest; I think it would be a great idea for a video or a series to give your opinion on contraptions made by the community, pointing out flaws you may find and giving advice on how to improve them
I love how you can tell how passionate he is about the geode project
oh yeah, did u watch the live stream a day or two ago when he reviewed them, he looked so happy :)
The amethyst farms were amazing. It's just a shame that manually mining them using Fortune III would blow them out of the water when it comes to raw material gained. Still, we do these things for science and not because we should, but because we can! 🤓
'blow them out of the water' 4x drops per shard, but ur only able to mine at most 25% of the shards
@@ncolyer But if two players (or more) mine the amethyst with fortune III, the farms would be no match.
@@nikolassomething3729 and u could get 100 players to mine every shard, having more players doesn't make it any better, coz you could use 2 players to load twice as many full auto geode farms using pistons.
also u need to supply the player with xp
@@nikolassomething3729 its like saying, oh my spruce tree farm is quicker than yours coz i made two of them and ran them with 2 players
Mango don't worry about uploading tommorow! Stress is the last thing you want to have since you've already been giving us daily uploads, for that we couldn't be more greatful!
Thank you for that. In my bee farm had that ONE bottle of honey just sitting there after it was pushed to the side. Now I can fix it.
This was the first time i show tnt minecart been use not in bedrock breaking or weird riddles
Portal farms feel so rediculously OP... I guess you need to have a good piglin setup first to get lots of obsidian, or a lot of players mining the regenerating end platform as a precursor, but once that's done every other farm becomes so simple haha
I love the creativity of the contestants! They all saw the problem differently.
"we're using 800 hoppers, so going in a small scale like this the server doesn't care about lag"
Really not that many lol
Thank you for this series
Someone actually did it. Ever since seeing SlicedLimes video where he discovered that Slime/Honey blocks don't stick to Budding Amethyst I had the idea to use a flying machine design. I'm glad to know that my idea (although I didn't submit it and I'm sure they figured it out on their own) ended up being the winner.
When a ghast die we are technically hearing a cat dying inside.
With the flying machine amethyst farm, you can probably code a program to find the optimal, or at least good flying machine layouts
No need for that. The shape of the slime block shield is given just by the projection of the budding amethyst blocks. Then you just need to partition it a bit such that the shields don't get larger than push limit and such that the engine sits in a spot where it doesn't collide.
Man, I was kinda dreading building a creeper farm but that ghast farm looks so simple and fun to make 😀
About the composters on the hoppers, this is what I know feel free to correct me if Im wrong but I see this question allot so: Hoppers stop checking for entities to suck up if they have a block with an inventory above them they will instead check the slots of the block above. This check causes less lag then the entity check. Composters have only 1 "slot" and are passive blocks (dont do anything unless interacted with) unlike furnaces which were used before composters were added to the game.
Yep
Droppers are better than furnaces, because furnaces tick.
Sadly, it seems everyone just rushes to leave a comment, without bothering to check to see that every fifth comment is already asking the same question.
I will never get over how good ilmango’s outro music is
Wait mango is so smart, at 17:29, you can see his fov is 69 and a second after his master volume is 42, NICE
What's optimal FOV ? Is it 79 ?
@@YounesLayachi depends on your distance to the screen, but 69 is of cause a really nice FOV, thats why im also using it ;)
@@PanNic97 also depends on screen size and GUI size, I find FOV under 70 too zoomed and it gives motion sickness.
FOV 80 to 90 has a decent amount of padding around the screen for peripheral vision
@@YounesLayachi I use 90 but I'm so used to being near a speed 2 beacon that without speed even 90 feels zoomed in
@@bradleywalton970 I'm still debating whether speed induced FOV changes are good in the long run or not x) no pun intended.
Will see what happens once I lay out soul speed III paths everywhere in my base
The winning design is based off the hit tv show "Hole In The Wall!"
I thought of using flying machines but haven't uploaded my world yet and was too lazy to creative test it and make a video. Wasn't sure on how budding amethyst would behave next to slime blocks, so it's great to see it works. Congratulations to Neffty88 for such a clean implementation.
Love your daily content so much
No worries sir it's always feels good to listen your voice and videos 😊❤️❤️
I've always wondered what you use as a server host. Do you rent or does one of the SciCraft members run it? Been watching for many years, keep up the fantastic content!
I would also want to know, what it takes to run a server like that. And how I could implement some of the important client side mods myself.
great use of the geodsy mod by the winner
In a future update they should allow the moving of the Amethyst blocks through piston moving. Just to take the extra time to line up in a nice farm would be worth the effort.

Yeah as venom said they reverted it :D
@@venomspectre5935 the performance tho... Gonna take a nosedive until subchunk-based generation and loading are implemented.

I wonder what the minimum specification for 1.18 currently is
@@BvngeeCord Holy shit lets go! we have hope...
yea same this is a problem for me because i play on laptop and with the best fps boosters i only get a top of 60 fps, I tried the experimental snapshot and i got 20 more fps then i normal do in a single player but if i started moving even half a block it would drop to 12 fps and the only way it was playable was if i put it on 2 render distance. which in it self isnt playable lol. Hi Ilmango!
Anyone knows if mango has a tutorial about shulker “system” which he has in the bee farm? Where honey combs being collected in a shulker instead and then placed in the chest. (2:18)
I have a very similar honey comb farm design on bedrock, the only exception is that my bees roam free and it hurts the rates. Can i do the azalea bush like you guys have?
"You can actually turn off like half of the farm in order not to produce more in case you don't need it" Sounds like the least SciCraft sentence ever
Weird to think it has already been 25 days

Why are the portal farms in the nether a thing now?
Does anyone know how wide are the portals from the ghast farm? I'd like to build this on a server so I need to prepare the obsidian
CEN that be madde a world download on dis after the world finish
Why do you put composters on top of hoppers? Love the videos
No lag
To reduce lag, when hoppers are being used only to transport items and not collect them, then a composter on top of the hopper stops the hopper from constantly polling the game for "are there any new items landing on top of me ?" updates
What Younes said. In one of ilmango's older videos, he was on a lagbusting adventure in the main Scicraft server, and basically 90+% of the server's lag problems were caused by hoppers! It's a really big deal, especially for a server that relies so heavily on automated item collection systems.
He spent that entire episode basically just flying around and fixing older machines that were causing lag, still somehow entertaining.
@@Talinoth optimisation in its purest form is always entertaining :D
Why do you always place composters above your hoppers?
Illmango please how did you get spectator command I cant see it
I'm curious, if you had a player go around in a minecart and protected one side of the amethyst source block with a trapdoor to prevent it from being mined, could you achieve better rates with a fortune 3 pick? Say 1k or more
water streams might be better, and the player would need to aim a certain way and hold both buttons
@@nanopi yeah, also, you average around 9 shards per crystal with fortune 3, so theoretically, you would only need 1/4 of the source blocks to achieve the same rates as a piston one
no
Nice :D
Hi illmango
Can we get a quick recap list of all the farms on the server so far
bowl farm
except no
Can anyone clarify why there’s composters on top of all the hoppers? I may have missed an explanation on it and I’m so confused :/
to reduce lag, since hoppers/ redstone components can be laggy
if you make honey farm in end it will be faster way to farm
In the nether and in the end its the same speed
I dont know about the testing methods. Isnt a farm that doesnt harvest not-fully-grown gems when harvesting the ones fully grown have better rates than one which always harvests all gems at once? I did not submit one as Im not on my pc but I think this would be a better way to measure it.
They already know the optimal clock timer to harvest the geodes at the best time. They were simply looking for a layout to get the most crystals. Time is an independent variable, so they were just looking at which one broke (and properly collected) the most crystals
Most if not all the amethysts will be fully grown when you harvest (every 167 minutes if I remember correctly) so there's no point in overcomplicating it. You'd be adding so many extra blocks and redstone devices you'd get much lower rates by not being able to harvest as many sides anyway.
Wait people didn't know about the tnt minecatt thingy?
ikr
whats the purpose of the composter?
I have been thinking for a very long time why there is no automatic enderman xp farm tutorial. It gives a little more xp than a zombified piglin farm, but I don't think that's the difference. I set out a creative world to do it, a square in the usual spawning arena, and caught the attention of endermans with endermites to fall into one place. Then I tried to figure out which would be the best killing system, but in most cases I didn’t get xp. I would be very grateful if I could get help. Thanks in advance.
Endermen drop xp only when killed by a player or a tamed wolf
Zombifief piglins gives more xp
Could you leave schematics for the Honey and Honeycomb farms in the description, please?
For the ghast farm, could you have a chunkloader really low in the world instead of another AFK player?
I think the mobs would despawn

Genius that amethyst mining like hole in the wall from mcc
what the reasoning for composters on all the hoppers?
Less lag
One question why do they put composters on top of the hoppers?
Slightly lag reducing
Hoppers stop checking for entities to suck up if they have a block with an inventory above them instead they will check the slots of the block above. This check causes less lag then the entity check. Composters have only 1 "slot" and are passive blocks (dont do anything unless interacted with) unlike furnaces which were used before composters were added to the game.
No real life ur OURS

Why is there a boat with 2 chickens in it just chilling in the ghast portal?
To push the Ghast out of the portal, so that they don't die exactly centered on the portal. In that case the items wouldn't drop in the water stream below. The chicken are needed to prevent the boat from beeing sent to the nether itself

can someone remind me why they have composters ontop of all their hoppers?
Lag reduction. It means the only thing that the hoppers have to check when trying to pick up items is the composter; and the composter only has the one output that needs checking.
I can't believe this series is about to end 😢
What are the composters for?

Why does everyone put composters on their hoppers?
If hoppers don’t have a block with an inventory on top of them, they have to check if there are entities on top of them.
If the hoppers do have a block with an inventory on top of them, they only need to check the slots of that inventory for items, which they do much more efficiently.
Composters have only one inventory slot to check and unlike furnaces, do not tick, so they produce the least lag out of all the blocks with inventories,
@@anonymousperson6228 yoooo ty man
Why are composters on the hoppers?
