What is Your Goalkeeper Glove Cut?

- Knowing the different types of cuts for goalkeeper gloves is a must when you are going to get new gloves. There are some huge differences between each glove cut. These differences affect the way the glove feels and fits to a goalkeeper's hand.
There are many different way a goalkeeper glove can be made but most brands cover this spectrum of cuts.
We have the traditional flat cut, with it's outside stitching along the border and a box like loose fit around the hand.
The Negative Cut which has the stitching on the inside of the glove keeping it tight around the hand. Super tight and the most like a human hand.
The roll cut which is a new modern favorite which connects the palm directly to the backhand of the glove which rolls the latex over the sides of the fingers and palm. This is a fat large glove with a tight snug fit.
And the Hybrid Cut which can be any mix of the different cuts listed with any addition. Lots of hybrid cuts are hitting the scene!

I love how three out of them are West Coast, in my opinion they're the best.
I have tried all 4, I hate the flat cut. But by far, my favorite are the negative cut. Don't mind the hybrid or roll cut though!

My favourite & which I use are hybrid and negetive cut.
I definitely love the hybrid cut, West Coast did an awesome job with their Quantum gloves. What I used prior to that was a different hybrid, their Vypers which had roll cut on the pinky and index fingers and negative cut on the middle and ring fingers. Both of them are superb gloves, and I saw the review for the Vypers, but I think that you should make a review on the Quantum gloves if you haven't done one already. :)

I prefer the hybrid cut out of these. The puma evospeed gloves, the ones without straps, are amazing you should try them out.
I prefer the rollfinger cut but i really enjoy the expanded cuts that Adidas and Reusch for example has to offer, which is basically a flat cut but with more latex-to-ball contact on the fingers
I got the laguna's that are on the left-middle, great gloves

They fit perfectly to the form of my hand

Negative and hybrid for me at the moment. Purely because I havent tried any other cuts
I gt a pair of Ace Zones vented cuff, they are so comfortable and have great grip.
Maybe you know the Hybrid cut from Precision goalkeeping (the Schmeichology type, half negative). Its just awesome...

I'll have to say roll fingers my fave because it's quite tight fitting but I can still get a lot on the ball
And then comes the money issue and you end up with some cheap-mid flat cut, no matter how your hand is.

ik this is 2 years later but West coast has gloves off all cuts for only 75 USD
I really recommend J4k gloves they are professional quality and super cheap
negative cut is the best for me, i own a hybrid and flat, flat is thr worst, getting a roll cut soon

Never stand on your line. Only when you are forced to by a penalty. Standa always at least 1 meter away from your line

Luccardi Not always sometimes I stand on the line when a corner has been taken and I know I won’t be able to reach the ball when it is in the air. Many goalkeepers do this to give themselves more time to react against a header or volley
I like flats because they fit my long fingers and are the only glove types I can find with the reticulated fingers

Roll finger cut for me. Has perfect fit and a thick latex most common 3,5mm so it has a better shot stopping power

Roll finger for me. To add on to what Alberto was saying about he roll finger, I think the roll finger most commonly comes with 3.5 or 4mm latex palm which gives you more of a hard shot stopping ability with most comfort. For catching though, I would have to go with a negative cut. I think it depends on what kind of a keeper you are as well. Do you have a good catching ability or do you feel more comfortable parrying shots? Good video.

+Ranulfo Lopes best gloves are the ones that you feel comfortable wearing .. whatever the cut / make or style. I look for a good wrist strap for protection and 4mm latex. Took a while to find the right cut and style that suited me .. a lot of trial and error. If you can go to a store and try various ones or ask other keepers you know to try their gloves, it will help you decide. Gloves can be very specific to an individual .. which is why its hard to say which ones you should buy

Hello, I was a goalkeeper when I played little league and I moved onto a different sport. I recently have been wanting to return to soccer as a goalkeeper once again. I have gloves but they are a 14 dollar pair that wore down after one try. Do you have any recommended diets, drills, trading schedule for me. Also nice vid it was very informative. (P.S. I am in high school and need a good economic pair of gloves)

can someone help me out here? I'm my schools JV starting keeper and when I played last year, I did fairly well, but this year, I just can't seem to connect with being a gk, I'm bobbling balls, missing dives and breakaways stuff. Any ideas on how to fix? thanks.
+Bob Marsh how old are you Bob. seen this with a lot of teenagers who go through a ' growth spurt ' and loose co-ordination for a while. I always go back to basics in training when things start to go wrong .. do simple catches etc and then progress

my personal favorite is definitely the negative cut, and my least favorite one is the flat cut, flat cut never perfectly fit into my finger, the roll cut is also my favorite but there aren't any goalkeeper gloves with that cut under 40$ price range.

Roll Finger works best for me, maybe because it felt more balanced when gripping the ball. Negative cut is a bit too tight on my hand if I follow the hand sizing chart. Box Cut though gives more punching power. I haven't tried the hybrid cut since their is no available supplier here in our country. But I would like to try it somehow
