KLR650 on a really nasty hillclimb

  • This hill is a piece of cake on a trail bike but feels like a major achievement on a KLR650. Had to have a go as the next day logging of this whole area was starting.
    Track is located near Wellington, New Zealand. Bike with the helmet cam is a Yamaha DT230.

    Great video! Well done to the dude on the KLR650. I'm just about to buy one and this video has really put my mind at ease on how the big donk will handle this type of terrain. Thanks for sharing.

    That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!!! The 650KLR is a bad ass tractor that can do whatever a skilled rider can ask of it.

  • @ChaplainC
    @ChaplainC Před 12 lety

    Interesting video. I was actually wondering if the KLR rider was new to riding, new to riding the KLR, or experienced on both. To me that looks like a fairly simple trail even if it were a touch muddy, and the fellow as all over the place. Not at all trying to be rude or critical here. It may just be that I started out on that type of trail and my first bike was a KLR 650. I do agree that 400lbs can be interesting to muscle around a hard trail. + I ride some hard stuff here in UT .thx4vid

    • @audible67
      @audible67 Před 10 lety

      MotoAtheist guess it's all relative to one's skill level...

    • @audible67
      @audible67 Před 10 lety +1

      MotoAtheist oh, I didn't realize you were the authority on the written word of Craig (blessings be upon him).
      Craig may have not been talking about their skill level... I didn't think he was; thus my point. The relative nastiness of a trail may indeed correspond to a rider's skill level OR - to your point - to the pigishness of the machine they ride.
      The supplementary corollary to this would be that the relative pigishness of the machine one rides corresponds to their skill level and/or the inherent nastiness of the trail.
      Let me know if you would like to continue with a discussion of the semantics of 'relative' and 'inherent'... or of the pigishness of klr's...phht...

    • @audible67
      @audible67 Před 10 lety

      MotoAtheist ...but yet you use it as an excuse to bloviate about your riding prowess...
      "downplay things to make themselves feel better"?! that's ridiculous. It makes more sense logically that you're sandbagging it just to make yourself "feel better". See it all the time!
      to some maybe this was a 'nasty' climb... still, I recon 50% of guys on klr's would have laid it down in those ruts.

    • @audible67
      @audible67 Před 10 lety

      MotoAtheist awwww. haha. that may be, still doesn't make a single one of your assertions correct, unfortunately. alas, the only one here demonstrating idiocy, is you. I would expect more from a 'freethinker' like yourself... dense, stubborn and arrogant...phht.

    • @Eldofarmboy
      @Eldofarmboy Před 6 lety +1

      Nothing is nasty to a KLR. I've ridden mine across the rubicon, took 4th in a hare scramble, and generally flogged the hell out of it with no issues whatsoever

  • @skeefoopanama
    @skeefoopanama Před 12 lety

    Throw on a 52 teeth rear sprocket,then you will feel some arm jerk torque,stock gearing sucks for any SERIOUS off roading,Put on a giant rear sprocket,and youll start seeing the sky,I guarantee it.The KLR does make good power off the bottom.

      Rider on the 4 stroke KLR was doing just fine. These types of bikes are not meant to be run WOT. They are all torque in low RPM ranges. Different riding styles and techniques between 2 and 4 stroke bikes. I have ridden both types. Prefer the 4 strokes. Half the noise, half the gas same amount of fun.
