Samsung puts eFuses in their arm chips, that go off once you root, and thus making a permanent fuse burn. If you then decide to flash your phone back to stock, you loose nearly all the Samsung Knox features. Meaning banking apps, security features etc might not work again properly. The nintendo switch does this as well btw, but only to prevent you from downgrading the firmware.
Pixel is _just_ okay, and thats it. I upgraded recently from a Pixel 3a because they were literally going to stop giving my phone security updates after May 2022. Pixel _3_ however had security updates end in like March or February 2022. Articles popped up from people complaining about htis, but nothing came of it. Pixel 4 and onward are going to be better about this because now Google makes their own chips so the security update support increased from like 3 years to 6, but putting all that time on that phone, hoping to make it last through a year of my first job (graduated May), at that point, I just swapped brands to Samsung. 6 years of security updates by default, but like we pay hundreds of thousands for these phones only for them to cut the lights out and leave us in the middle of Britain with a bunch of brits holding knives walking toward you that you can't see. That's not even talking about the lack of repair options. Remember when we could take the battery out of phones? Now, when we drop them the battery no longer falls out, but that just gave them more control over the internals. Don't stay complacent. Support Right to Repair. We pay so much only to get a Swiss army knife that isn't actually ours.

When she asked me to transfer some photos from my Android through Bluetooth, I couldn't connect to that IPhone, but I could smoothly connect to phones that my family members have (one of them wasn't even Android). My grandpa (also RIP) had a Cold War era radio that was rigged to catch only Russian stations. It's feeling so surreal to realize that Apple, *a capitalist company* is using the same connection technology as that Cold War era radio.

Nokia communicators weren't that advanced, we're just comparatively *unadvanced*. If you take the technology advancements between 2000-2012, and then between 2012-2022, you'll notice very obvious slow down - and don't get me started on during the 80's and 90's! This is generally how it goes, historically. Some new technology comes along, revoutionises things and gets quickly expanded up for ~15 years, but as you draw closer to the 'high water mark' of what that technology can do, advancements start to slow down and eventually stagnate when you reach it. Give it a bit, then some other new tech come along and you enter another leap. The issue is that, previously, there was some awareness that this high water mark was nearing or had been reached. People would make small change to their products (for example, the printing press was being slightly improved for quite a while), but they weren't historically trying to convince people their changes were worth throwing away your old model and buying the new one. Just that if you happened to need a new one, it now had a few extra tweaks. And, generally, they used this time to start working on new things. In modern day, I'd say we've reached the high water mark of smartphones, and until we reach the next leap tech in that area, that's what we're gonna get: little tweaks. Apple just wants you to keep buying their shit, as marginally better as it may be.

Just yesterday I was watching a video talking about how some energy company that sold smart thermostats shut down their customers AC in the middle of a heatwave because there was a clause in the agreement that basically said they’ll sometimes have “control events” where the energy company can basically decide to “save people money and the environment” by cutting off their AC. The clause in the agreement basically also said “you can opt out of this, unless we decide we don’t like it when you opt out so we’ll just remove the option to opt out.” Companies trying to force people to pay up now.
After about 6 years, I went from my iPhone 7 to the 13, and it’s such a big upgrade in terms of everything. Features, hardware, software, camera. Got it really cheap too because I bought the older model, hope Apple doesn’t make it obsolete by the 15 :)
The error messages are fixed by a software upgrade. Plus i think the whole thing about companies slowing down your phone is true but its not to force you to buy a new phone but its just that the OS upgrades put a tool on the processor of your phone. Like for example if i try to run windows on a P4 it will be hard for it to to run it. Same goes for the OS updates. The processor can't handle the upgrade that well so it slows down a bit with each update

It was a 2010 touchscreen phone, but it was no smartphone. The exterior would also randomly fall apart (I'm talking my battery & touchscreen pen would randomly fall out of my phone); - Phone 2: (2014-2017): I replaced it cuz the phone deteroriated every update & at one point in 2017 there would be no further updates for my version of it. I eventually replaced it out of necessity as I dropped it from the couch & the screen broke (I dropped it from stairs before so this is just silly) & I would be leaving for a school trip to a different country the same week; - Phone 3 (2017-2021): I replaced it cuz it clearly wasn't made to last 4 years, 2.5 years was clearly what it was meant to last for. The phone became very slow. For more than half of the time I used it though, it was a really good phone; - Phone 4 (2021-??): I am very happy with my current phone. It's a really good one, perhaps the best ever. I hope I don't have to replace it until at least 2027. I'll never know for sure Getting a new phone every half decade is so much fun! You're so surprised by how much the technology for it changed :D

I work for a store that sells iPhones, and it's horrible how their service and delivery is, literally thousands of people order the new phone and Apple promised to deliver within a week. Some people are already waiting for a month and iPhone just ignores them and the stores.
i really love the feeling of upgrading your phone after about 5 years. i had an old xperia l1 about a year ago, was alright for a good 4 years until i bit it? (no clue, dont ask) and the entire screen just got destroyed instantly. had to find weird workarounds to get it to work with half the screen disabled, for a good 6 months. eventually, i upgraded to the galaxy a12. not top of the line at all but, i had literally never had a phone that big (poor). it was seriously amazing, for a couple days i completely forgot about literally everything else in my life and just stared at the silly big bright light in my hand that plays the funny videos.
I also did that last year. I went from a Samsung A5 Galaxy to the OnePlus Nord after 4 years. My Samsung was at the end of its life for over a year. My family was begging me to buy a new phone. I eventually caved mainly cuz yeah I did need a new phone I was so amazed at how different phones had become between 2017 & 2021
I generally keep a phone until it breaks. Last one's battery got so shit that it couldn't last more than an afternoon. At 15% it would just close and then when I open it again the battery would be 1%. Kept it for 2 yeats.
Same thing is with most PCs as well, once you get involved with Linux and learn about sudo and root you then begin to realize that you don't own most of the tech that you buy for yourself, and that the fact that your system calls you the "Administrator" has to be the biggest joke of the century.
The only thing I've had Windows stop me from doing was delete core components of the system and that's not even a problem. I'm a Kali user, but I've also used Ubuntu, Manjaro, Arch, and Debian so I know both worlds.

I had my old samsung s7 for like, 5 years I believe, and honestly it worked just fine even after 5 years, I didn't buy a new phone because my old had given up, it was (and still is) a perfectly usable phone. Slower yes, but far from trash, and not once did I crack the screen or needed to replace/repair any hardware. Only reason I upgraded was because I was missing out on the newer tech and software upgrades, plus my app updates wouldn't quite work because their newest updates were better designed for new phones. So last december I upgraded from my s7 to a samsung A52 5g that NORMALLY would have cost me something like $450 ish, I basically got for free after switching my phone service provider in the same go and getting a better monthly payment deal that included the price of the phone split across each month, which was in total still less than what I was paying before. Literally walked out the store with a free phone and only paid like $20 for an added screen protector that they installed for me LMAO. Great phone too, works flawlessly.
Can’t understand why people get iPhones. The shell is so unbelievably fragile that one drop can crack the screen! I have a basic feature phone (T9 Keyboard, no touchscreen, etc.) and I’m much happier without a smartphone tbh.

It's so random, half the time my photos are great but then sometimes they just get really grainy (pixel 6) its a decent camera at least.
If you have any pixel between 2-5 or 6a they all have the same camera hardware so software just messes up

I am from Eastern Europe. My neighbor (RIP) had an IPhone gifted for her birthday. When she asked me to transfer some photos from my Android through Bluetooth, I couldn't connect to that IPhone, but I could smoothly connect to phones that my family members have (one of them wasn't even Android). My grandpa (also RIP) had a Cold War era radio that was rigged to catch only Russian stations. It's feeling so surreal to realize that Apple, *a capitalist company* is using the same connection technology as that Cold War era radio.

I have a friend from Poland, and the coffee machine at his workplace has "Made in the German Democratic Republic" printed on it (in Russian, no less). Made in *East Germany*! That kind of product longevity today, even for something that should be as straightforward as a coffee machine, is simply unimaginable!
EDIT: also East German manufacturing was notoriously rubbish. So the *badly-made* technology of that era has lasted 40+ years.

Moth priests are people from the Cult of Ancestor Moth who study and collect the Elder Scrolls themselves. In Skyrim you recruit one in the Dawnguard DLC getting him to read a scroll for you.
The characters Pyro was trying to reference were the Greybeards. A small group who live up on the big mountain like Pyro said. They dedicate themselves to studying "the voice" or Thu'um. (Or y'know that shouty shouty fus ro dah stuff you always see in Skyrim clips because it's funny to fling someone a hundred yards.)
You spend a lot of time with the Greybeards in the main game's story so I don't really know how Pyro slipped that one when the Moth Priests are comparatively a deeper cut of lore.

im just gonna say that even today connecting to wifi on my old nokia communicator from pre-2010 makes the experience so much more special. it feels like something spectacular is happening and i'm consistently amazed at how advanced it is for a mobile phone.

Nokia communicators weren't that advanced, we're just comparatively *unadvanced*. If you take the technology advancements between 2000-2012, and then between 2012-2022, you'll notice very obvious slow down - and don't get me started on during the 80's and 90's!
This is generally how it goes, historically. Some new technology comes along, revoutionises things and gets quickly expanded up for ~15 years, but as you draw closer to the 'high water mark' of what that technology can do, advancements start to slow down and eventually stagnate when you reach it. Give it a bit, then some other new tech come along and you enter another leap.
The issue is that, previously, there was some awareness that this high water mark was nearing or had been reached. People would make small change to their products (for example, the printing press was being slightly improved for quite a while), but they weren't historically trying to convince people their changes were worth throwing away your old model and buying the new one. Just that if you happened to need a new one, it now had a few extra tweaks. And, generally, they used this time to start working on new things.
In modern day, I'd say we've reached the high water mark of smartphones, and until we reach the next leap tech in that area, that's what we're gonna get: little tweaks. Apple just wants you to keep buying their shit, as marginally better as it may be.
What Nokia are you using doe? Also, some modern day phones do have optical zoom, it's just that the price for the perk is kinda ridiculous.

I have a Samsung A71. I bought it in early 2020 for £380, I got like a £40 discount because my gfs dad at the time used to work where I got it from. There are absolutely no issues with it, it's been an amazing phone. The battery has never gone under 50% due to the length of time I use it and my charging habits. I have a screen protector that cost £10 and there is some slight damage, but the screen underneath is perfectly fine and even the screen protector has no issues. I'm not getting a new phone until this one literally explodes

i remember going from a 3DS to a Ipad Mini and being blown away at how different it was, and more recently going from some shitty 200 dollar Motorola back in 2018 to an Iphone 7+ for my birthday this year. 3:36 I actually just upgraded a week ago from an iPhone 7 plus to an iPhone 13. I've had my 7 plus since around late 2016 or early 2017 and I don't plan on upgrading again until 4-5 years from now. It is such a huge difference when you wait that long and you save money. I literally see no reason to upgrade every single time a new version of a phone comes out.

Unfortunately this is the way companies are trying to go with a lot of things. Making it to where you don’t really own what you’re buying and they can shut it down anytime they choose for whatever reason. Just yesterday I was watching a video talking about how some energy company that sold smart thermostats shut down their customers AC in the middle of a heatwave because there was a clause in the agreement that basically said they’ll sometimes have “control events” where the energy company can basically decide to “save people money and the environment” by cutting off their AC. The clause in the agreement basically also said “you can opt out of this, unless we decide we don’t like it when you opt out so we’ll just remove the option to opt out.” Companies trying to force people to pay up now.
What happened to my family with an Apple tablet is that functions slowly began to block in addition to not been able to update the operating system.

The error messages are fixed by a software upgrade. Plus i think the whole thing about companies slowing down your phone is true but its not to force you to buy a new phone but its just that the OS upgrades put a tool on the processor of your phone. Like for example if i try to run windows on a P4 it will be hard for it to to run it. Same goes for the OS updates. The processor can't handle the upgrade that well so it slows down a bit with each update

- Phone 1 (2010-2014): I replaced it cuz the phone was outdated. It was a 2010 touchscreen phone, but it was no smartphone. The exterior would also randomly fall apart (I'm talking my battery & touchscreen pen would randomly fall out of my phone);
- Phone 2: (2014-2017): I replaced it cuz the phone deteroriated every update & at one point in 2017 there would be no further updates for my version of it. I eventually replaced it out of necessity as I dropped it from the couch & the screen broke (I dropped it from stairs before so this is just silly) & I would be leaving for a school trip to a different country the same week;
- Phone 3 (2017-2021): I replaced it cuz it clearly wasn't made to last 4 years, 2.5 years was clearly what it was meant to last for. The phone became very slow. For more than half of the time I used it though, it was a really good phone;
- Phone 4 (2021-??): I am very happy with my current phone. It's a really good one, perhaps the best ever. I hope I don't have to replace it until at least 2027. I'll never know for sure

I had my IPhone SE from November 2016 to July 2019, when I got the Samsung S9 and because the SE was a small phone, the size of the iPhone 5. after a week I lost the knowhow on how to hold that phone at all.

I work for a store that sells iPhones, and it's horrible how their service and delivery is, literally thousands of people order the new phone and Apple promised to deliver within a week. Some people are already waiting for a month and iPhone just ignores them and the stores.

i really love the feeling of upgrading your phone after about 5 years. i had an old xperia l1 about a year ago, was alright for a good 4 years until i bit it? (no clue, dont ask) and the entire screen just got destroyed instantly. had to find weird workarounds to get it to work with half the screen disabled, for a good 6 months. eventually, i upgraded to the galaxy a12. not top of the line at all but, i had literally never had a phone that big (poor). it was seriously amazing, for a couple days i completely forgot about literally everything else in my life and just stared at the silly big bright light in my hand that plays the funny videos.

I also did that last year. I went from a Samsung A5 Galaxy to the OnePlus Nord after 4 years. My Samsung was at the end of its life for over a year. My family was begging me to buy a new phone. I eventually caved mainly cuz yeah I did need a new phone

Last one's battery got so shit that it couldn't last more than an afternoon. At 15% it would just close and then when I open it again the battery would be 1%. Kept it for 2 yeats.

Same thing is with most PCs as well, once you get involved with Linux and learn about sudo and root you then begin to realize that you don't own most of the tech that you buy for yourself, and that the fact that your system calls you the "Administrator" has to be the biggest joke of the century.

The only thing I've had Windows stop me from doing was delete core components of the system and that's not even a problem. I'm a Kali user, but I've also used Ubuntu, Manjaro, Arch, and Debian so I know both worlds.

I had my old samsung s7 for like, 5 years I believe, and honestly it worked just fine even after 5 years, I didn't buy a new phone because my old had given up, it was (and still is) a perfectly usable phone. Slower yes, but far from trash, and not once did I crack the screen or needed to replace/repair any hardware. Only reason I upgraded was because I was missing out on the newer tech and software upgrades, plus my app updates wouldn't quite work because their newest updates were better designed for new phones.
So last december I upgraded from my s7 to a samsung A52 5g that NORMALLY would have cost me something like $450 ish, I basically got for free after switching my phone service provider in the same go and getting a better monthly payment deal that included the price of the phone split across each month, which was in total still less than what I was paying before. Literally walked out the store with a free phone and only paid like $20 for an added screen protector that they installed for me LMAO. Great phone too, works flawlessly.

Can’t understand why people get iPhones. The shell is so unbelievably fragile that one drop can crack the screen! I have a basic feature phone (T9 Keyboard, no touchscreen, etc.) and I’m much happier without a smartphone tbh.
