    `Purchased them a year ago, on the base of your comments and explanations. After 2 total knees and one total ankle it became impossible for me to turn 170mm cranks on the ball of my feet. My solution, Ortho pedal blocks which allowed me to shorten my crank length from 170mm to 155mm and use the pedal of my choice. If I went to 140mm (which I can) I could pedal on the balls of my feet but loose a considerable amount of rotational force. Answer, 155mm crank rotation and mid-foot cycling. Am I as good as I was, pre-orthopedic surgery? No.
    Am I know back on the saddle turning 155mm cranks with Look pedals comfortably, YES! Thanks to Patroclets" and your inspiration.
    Thanks, brother.

    Thank you for that review. I bought them and mounted them today. First testride tomorrow. I totally second your review. I received the adapter with longer and shorter bolts, so it seems Niels reacted accordingly to the protruding problem.

    I got the Patrocleats for my Speedplay pedals, and it works like a charm. I'm just starting experiencing mid foot cycling because I have knee arthritis and I want to try new positions on the bike (I'm an Audax rider). Cannot say yet if it will help, but mid foot pedaling seems very natural.

      I’ve personally found that after a couple months, I just forgot about it and going “axle under ball of foot “ feels weird. That’s been my experience FWIW

    I was having serious calf pain, I have just bought these and I'm currently experimenting with the position, but so far way better.

    I do use it. Im a powerful cyclist in thailand. It does help with long efforts and doesn’t raise my heartrate. It is like a triathlon setup. I would like to have it with more than 20mm for cleatback. It is still not in the middle of the shoe actually . But about part to be close. You can feel it. I use lake shoes so i think is also about the shoe. Other shoe manufacturers have the bolt inserts further back than some other brands.
    I did lot of sprints and use it for a long time. The first kit i bought, one screw insert broke up. They offered replacement for free, the new plate never broke up. So it is fine to use, also for pros

    I have been mid foot pedaling using flat pedals on my recumbent. Trying to find a mid foot solution for my speed play pedals. I also have wide feet with a high instep so hard to find a shoe much less a mid foot solution. Gonna try some Bont shoes and see if they can be modified. Bont has a custom option which is mid foot. We need more mid foot content, thanks for your videos.

    I used these for awhile and was enjoying them but I had trouble with the tiny screws snapping during use. I contacted the company about it and they did sent me a new set but I'm afraid now of the screws snapping during use.

    great video, I am 60 and just got the same Lake shoes and ordered the Patrocleats. Do you have to go back the full 24mm???

    i love midfoot. So much more comfortable, I was getting a lot of foot pain on my long rides. I just drilled holes in my SIDI'S. I'm afraid with this product it wont go back as much as I want to really be midfoot. Do you feel like it goes back far enough? Love the video.

      Goes back 24 mm from the farthest holes in the shoes. If that's not enough, drill em. Here's a video on how I drilled my own shoes: czcams.com/video/7Qw6jTRqzR4/video.html

    Could you in theory use this on just the one painful foot that has the shorter limb ?

  • @Camrographer

    I have speedplay Zero pedals and SIDI Ergo1 shoes. I've noticed that when I push my cleat back as far as it can go it reduces irritation of the IT band and that bone on the outside near the knee. This only happens on my left non-dominant leg.
    Do you think that using a cleat adapter to push the cleat back further will completely eliminate that pain?

    • @cyclinginsoutherncalifornia
      @cyclinginsoutherncalifornia  Před rokem +1

      Yes. Sounds like it would. Here's how I converted my speedplays to midfoot: czcams.com/video/veyvT7k830o/video.html

      @@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia Thank you!

    • @Camrographer
      @Camrographer Před rokem

      @@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia I got the cleats last night and installed it on one foot to gain a feel for the differences. I noticed three things within a twenty minute spin on a trainer. Firstly, the pressure on my patella and IT band were significantly reduced. Secondly my pedal stroke was more stable and lastly more of my quads and less of my calves were enhanced in the rotation it seems like I will have to emphasize a pulling motion through the stroke to isolate the calves.
      With the Sidi Ergo1 carbon shoes there is a carbon plate at the ball of the foot. The Petra cleats rest upon the screws protruding. Initially I thought that this would negatively impact my stroke but it seems to be a happy coincidence that those screws function as a shim to flatten about the clear. Unless this is by design.
      The adapter isn’t as secure as the OEM one but it’s good enough for my purposes. I noticed minute rotational shifts even when the screws are tightened. I don’t have a torque wrench so I tightened them conservatively.
      All in all, it seems to have helped. I guess the question is, is a cleat afaptet a bandaid for imbalanced physiology or simply an essential component of the fitting process.

    hello, I want to test this so bad , Ibut saw a forum thread and this accesory may broke the shoe during cycling or setting up, what you think?

    • @cyclinginsoutherncalifornia
      @cyclinginsoutherncalifornia  Před rokem

      It broke the shoe? To me it's no different than attaching the cleat to the shoe. You attach the Patrocleat to the shoe, then the cleat to the Patrocleat. I'm not sponsored by the company, so I have no interest in whether you use them or not. I just made the video to tell you my experience with them.
