  • This episode of Encounters with Evil investigates three cases of psycho killers-men and women incapable of empathy or remorse-examining some of the most terrifying psychopaths ever to prey on the innocent. Joanna Dennehy is considered so dangerous she is one of only three women in the UK to have been given a whole life sentence. Her horrific crimes include murdering three men in a violent ten day killing spree and attempting two others murders. Scottish serial murderer and rapist Peter Tobin who hid behind numerous false identities to conduct a15year reign of terror. And one of Britain’s most notorious and twisted killers-Moors Murderer Ian Brady-incarcerated for over fifty years for his terrible crimes against children.

I think evil is religious concept. It’s a label, not conducive to further analysis. Modern imaging techniques have transformed the fields of science and psychiatry. Advances in genetics tell us a lot about the interaction of genetic make up and environmental triggers. It’s complex. It doesn’t mean that perpetrators shouldn’t be in jail, but it does give us insights into behaviour, and hopefully, how to prevent it.

I honestly do believe that some are indeed born evil. There are many people out there who have had appalling lives but have somehow grown into functional adults who, despite the scars of brutality, do not turn into criminals themselves. But there are also children, who commit unspeakable crimes. Evil, is a very real force and has become ignored of the years . It is something which feeds on people with problems and if allowed to 'get in' takes a firm hold. It should never be ignored or doubted.

The youngest serial killer in the world was an eight year old Indian boy who brutally beat his three month old little sister to death and his father covered it up saying it was "a family matter" then the family covered it up again when he did the same to his six yo cousin. It wasn't until he kidnapped a neighbours six month old baby girl from a daycare that working mothers would leave their babies while they were at work and killed her, then when the alarm was raised that the baby was missing, he led the searchers to her body and proudly told them how he'd beat her with his hands and feet, bricks and branches as well as inserting small twigs inside her vagina and anus. That's when the first two murders were brought to light and when he was being interviewed by the police he seemed to take some sick pleasure just describing the horrific things he'd done to those two babies and the little girl. When he was asked why he killed them he said it was because they had been crying and the sound irritated him so he wanted to kill them to shut them up but he did take an obvious pleasure in the killings. I believe his parents should have been charged with obstruction of justice and perverting the course of justice because if he hadn't covered up the murder of the little sister, then two other women wouldn't have had to live with the fact that this sick little bastard took pleasure in murdering their daughters in such a horrific manner

Not quite. Dennehy was a psychopath, as opposed to a sociopath, where nurture is the main cause. Psychopaths are usually caused by nature, however there are some overlapping grey areas.
Psychopathy is a personality disorder, which is not a recognised mental illness. They have a distorted sense of their own self-worth, in that other people are not important in their world. Many display a level of narcissistic behaviour, where they require gratification for their actions, but I'd say Dennehy is more your sadistic psychopath, where her selfish actions are done simply for her own pleasure or amusement. Sociopaths tend to be angry at the world or the people within it.
Drinking was her first love, then it became sex, then crime, and finally murder, because she could no longer achieve satisfaction from the other pleasures in her life, therefore blood lust and pain became her enjoyment. She was determined that it would lead to her own fame.
It's so unbelievably twisted to most normal people, yet it belongs in a very base human emotion: pleasure.

I think it starts from a young age if they had someone who noticed a talent or something like that could have sent them on better path. The drive, commitment and determination from all serial killers is always high and if they had a talent that could had Been supported or developed they would probably be the best at what ever job or sport whatever they decided to do. High level businessman normally share traits of psychopaths because of the decisions they have to make. So knowing what we know about psychology these days spotting it at a young age could possibly be detected and molded into a plus. There will be some exceptions and some people are just born broken but ultimately for a large number of these people I think that poor upbringing and bad living situations are the biggest cause

She got herself a guy physically bigger than most. So she could bully without being the victim. I don’t think it’s fair to link cannabis with violent acts. A&E Casualty on a weekend night isn’t packed out with those under the influence of cannabis.

Cannabis has been proven to both cause and exacerbate psychosis though. The only people who refuse to acknowledge that it can be a dangerous drug are those already addicted to it.

Joanna Dennehy. What a beautiful child he was in childhood! What could turn her into something else? I think something happened in her family. Something starts from the family. I think she was raped or sexually abused. And that made her crazy and she ended up in extreme situations. She became sadistic, violent and her personality changed.
He turned her whole life upside down. That man with whom she started her life and with whom she has children, is not very honest.
At 14, 15 years old you are a minor. I don't think he didn't have sexual relations with her, as he states. She wasn't ready to have a child, a family, a husband, she didn't even get to know herself, to know who she is, what she really wants from life, what matters to her.
In her family I don't think everything was decent as they say in the video. There are secrets in every family. If she had love there, she wouldn't have left home or her behavior wouldn't have been toxic,
so as to make others suffer and always go to extremes. I'm sorry for what it turned into.
Why do children lose their childhood innocence? Parents are often not what they seem. The fact that he ended up in prison is good, because he can no longer kill anyone, but if he behaves toxically with the other inmates in prison, he should be separated and imprisoned in an isolated place.
I don't know if she can change or if therapy would help her.
She repressed something as a child and didn't know how to deal with it and turned into a criminal. What an unfortunate fate! Childhood trauma leaves traces throughout life. That's where it all starts. And he keeps silent. The child suffers in silence, because he has no one to tell. He feels guilty, he's ashamed, even though it's not his fault. He becomes a victim. And this is where everything starts, that something that marks him for life. He can develop a behavior disorder, depression or something more serious.I feel sorry for all the children who were sexually abused as children. They become the victims of others because they are defenseless. Their lives are ruined. I pray daily that these abuses stop.

Not dangerous? Try telling that to the victims' families.
Anyway, I think you'll find she killed those three men all on her own, with nobody else present at the time. One was a neighbour who she was drinking with and she stabbed without warning, who believed she was a potential girlfriend, the second neighbour was passed out through drink, and the third was her landlord and lover. They were all crimes carried out on unsuspecting victims, which made it easier. It was the same with the two dog walkers she tried to kill in Hereford, they understandably never saw it coming.
She only had the men's aid in disposing of their bodies. There aren't many truly evil, psychopathic women around, but she's about the closest thing to evil as I've ever seen or heard of. She was cold beyond measure, and that in itself makes her exceptionally dangerous. Those pictures of her make my blood chill.
