    This is crazy, I literally just had an idea for a costume using screen printing YESTERDAY, and was starting to research how it's done but couldn't find a tutorial that was as in depth as I wanted. Then today I got the notification for this, like absolutely perfect timing.
    Thanks so much for this tutorial, it's so well explained and easy to follow!

    I was thought in college to do this type of printing, but in a large scale, so we use a big machine to do the exposure! For the edges we just add tape on so it wouldnt bleed out in the fabric when adding the ink.

    • @BellaMaesDesigns
      @BellaMaesDesigns  Před 2 lety +4

      Yes! I have done tape before, but after washing it usually needed to be redone, so on the barely ever used screens I do tape and I do the touch up on the ones I plan to use a lot!

    I had no idea how this was done. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I may have just developed yet another hobby! 😆 (pun intended ❤️)

    If you use 405 nm led strips they will last for years and give a more even exposure and also use less electricity. Even better is that they are not very expensive.
    A strip with 60 led would be $20-30 US. The advantage is that you can do it anytime and you can time the exposure so it is the same every time.

    that blouse with LOTR looks absolutely amazing! as a kid I visited screen printing company. I was so mesmerised! It had a big circular machine with rotating colours ontop and it was printing many shirts at once. It looked so magical

    This is so cool! I never even knew this existed. It's neat that there are so many ways to get around ordering a custom made printed fabric, it seems like you can get a lot done with this method!

    Thank you for this. I’ve always wanted to know about screen printing. Now I have to keep saying I don’t have room or time for a new hobby. I will have to enjoy it vicariously! Unless I find a friend who will let me play! I need crafting friends!

    You can use 2 hardware store lamps that you remove the UV protective glass from. That’s how I was taught in my graphic design program.

    Love that you did this! Thanks for sharing!!!

    I remember doing this in art at school (40 years ago) I made a head on picture of a boxers face (dog). It turned out really well and I gifted a t-shirt and pillow case to the owner of the dog. I did one in black and grey tones and the other in his red and white markings and black nose. I think we had a box thing to expose the canvasses in and I'm sure we just cut out paper or card instead of the ink on acetate. This was in the era of PC. Pree computer. Best wishes x
    The dress is going to be stunning with these prints on.

    You should get a shower head with a handheld attachment, that has a high-pressure 'massage' function that you can use to get the trifecta of dark room/high pressure/warm water you need for rinsing these screens. It is super easy to change out a shower head, and they're usually not expensive.

    At heart I’m a perfectionist, but in reality I’m a messy procrastinator who starts projects and never finishes them because the results don’t ever meet my standard, so I’m living my perfectionists fantasy through this whole process ♥️

    I’m just now watching some of your videos. I don’t know how your process has developed over the past year, but if you expect your conditions to be consistent, you could prep a tiny screen/frame and do a test exposure. You would get a piece of matboard and move it up a fraction of an inch every few seconds. Then you can see the point where the emulsion is hard enough. This is the method I used in darkroom photo printing.

    can you get gold paint? like what if you are already using really specific color?

  • @zagrizena
    @zagrizena Před 2 lety +2

    Just wondering... Is there some sort of UV-meter, that you could use to adjust your exposure time based on strength of UV radiation each day? Not sure how the costs and potential savings add up, but wasting a screen each day you make them doesn't seem completely insignificant + it's just hard for me to go into a process knowing I'll have to bin a significant portion of it anyways.

    ink isnt so bad but when you do printing with thickened dyes, I found the texture and it getting everywhere soooo icky I can never do it again. i will do stamping happily, not silk screen
