    Not too sure if anyone has commented on the quirks with the USB power ports. The Logi dock is technically a USB hub. A basic USB hub doesn't require external power and power is channeled from the host device that the hub is connected to. Put it this way, the ports with the power icon indicates that power comes from an external source and power on the usual ports comes from the host device. So that explains why only the ports with the power icon is able to charge devices when a host device is not connected or powered off.

    I was super excited about this product; I literally would check the website everyday for 7 months hoping it would be released. When it finally was released I bought it that day! Unfortunately, I was super disappointed when it arrived. I was unable to support 2 monitors using my MacBook Pro or Air. The Logi Dock only allowed for me to connect one monitor, the second monitor was just a mirror of the first and there was no option to unmirror them within the MacBook setup. It was almost as if the second monitor didn’t even register. Another huge miss was the fact that the USB-C ports were not Thunderbolt ports. I think this products design is amazing, but it still has some big gaps, in my opinion. As much as I wanted this to be the definitive work from home product, I think the misses are too big for me right now and too big to justify a $400 investment. My hope is that the Logi Dock 2.0 will address these gaps and deliver the seamless experience.

    Hey man, good video, but one critique. Hi-Speed USB means that the USB bus will work in 3.0 5GB/s vs USB 2.0 480MB/s. That is why the monitors can only run with reduced resolution, there isn’t enough data bandwidth over the USB-C cable, because this isn’t a Thunderbolt 3/4 dock it only has a bandwidth of 10GB/s.

    I am really glad I watched this. This is expensive. Like many others, I am a hybrid employee who spends most of my time at home and some time in the office. With that being the case, I am always dealing with "remotely managed" peripherals and desktop quirks. I cannot spend a lot of money on something that I need to tinker with - it has to be plug and play with the ability to manipulate right from Windows as IT is not going to indulge my requests for peripheral supporting software. With that being said, I look forward to the evolution of this product.

While it isn’t an apples to apple comparison by any means I will say that the lack of a touchscreen for the Logi would be a problem for me, especially in business use. I think the design structure is the focus of the "dock" without diminishing what a dock is. To have peripherals that should not be interrupted by creating a perfect/uninterrupted system at a hardware level is a very reasonable design. It would make sense to have different teams to focus on their set of goals/expectations and have another team put them together. However, to have open arms to wider demographics to be successful in products that are not strictly limited, like businesses or corporate only, it is a matter of time that problems arise with up to date disclosures.

    The USB-A that only charges when a computer is plugged in may be the one they are planning to be used for the camera. It makes sence to only power that port if a PC is available to use the camerra.

    The charging issue is probably because of the circuitry. I'd say it would make things a bit more complicated to make all the ports charging ports without a laptop connected, so this is a way for them to shave off a few more dollars. Also kind of redundant because you have one working USB-A port and one USB-C. The only reason I could think of where it would be handy having both ports active without an attached laptop is for charging bluetooth peripherals. In any case I'd probably have a cheap 4 port USB dock plugged into that charging port so I have a few more available. They're pretty cheap on Amazon.

    I've been looking for a speakerphone that can double as "decently good computer speakers" for my home office. I don't really care about the "USB-C dock" features, just the speaker and microphone. I currently use an HP Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 with its "audio module" upgrade, which is a *GREAT* sounding speaker and microphone.
    My biggest question is how good the stereo separation is on playback. My HP dock is smaller, so not very good stereo separation, in spite of good audio quality.
    (One of my HP Dock's video output ports is failing, and my new monitor can act as a Thunderbolt dock itself, so I don't need the full dock capability, and I can't get the HP Dock to work "slaved" to the monitor's Thunderbolt out, nor the monitor connected to the HP's Thunderbolt out.)
    I also wonder what functionality of it is available if you connect to a computer using USB-A (via a USB-C to USB-A cord.) Since I don't need video out or charging, as long as the full audio functionality plus the USB ports work, that's all I need. (Then I could plug it into one of the monitor's USB-A ports.)

If you want multiple high resolution / high refreshrate monitors on a dock, you're better off with Thunderbolt 3/4 dock, not just "regular" USB-C. With regards to the power from the USB Ports to charge units, one is a powered USB and the other is not. Just like with most laptops, the unit needs to be connected and powered on to be able to allow data and power transfer, hence why the port with the thunder sign works (coz its the powered USB Port) and the other does not.
    This is just as per design, same is noted even on most Windows PC's
    This also makes me think that maybe your iPhones should charge with the two other USB-C Ports when connected to a laptop?

    How can you “highly, highly recommend” this product with all the problems you outlined? Huge ac adapter, mediocre mic quality, charging port issues, unusable buttons-wow, this really seems like a prototype and not a finished product. I use a LOT of Logitech products, but I would not buy this until these issues are resolved. Thanks for letting us know about them.

      "mediocre mic quality" It has similar sound quality to office speaker phones that run in the hundreds of dollars range. It's better than most laptop microphones, which is what many people would be upgrading from. While it does not sound as good as a studio USB mic on a mic stand holding the mic within a few inches of your face, you also don't need this thing up in your face; right tool for the job.

  • @distribeat

    The reason you were getting capped at 1080p for your displays when USB 3.0 is enabled is because it dedicates part of the data bandwidth to USB which means HDMI & DisplayPort cannot push more pixels (data) through. It’s not a power nor a wattage issue, it’s the bandwidth limitations of a USB-C connection.

    How does logi tunes work with Google Meet? And does the middle button actually force you to join a meeting scheduled in your calendar immediately? It would be good if you could do a video on the functionality with Google Meet/ zoom as many people will purchase for this reason.

      Comments like this absolutely help drive what I’ll make next so thank you for that! The middle button opens the Google meeting but doesn’t auto join. It’s the same as if you click join from Google Calendar. You still get a chance to mute/turn off video before joining.

      Based on the Logitech support page, that type of Super Ultrawide should be supported at the full 60hz. I don't have a monitor in that resolution to test so you'll have to go off of Logitech's word, but based on what they've put out thus far, I think you should be good. prosupport.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/4414665665943

    Great review (i have been waiting for this to come out and for someone to review it!).
    It would have been nice to hear the laptop mic vs the logi dock mic to compare the quality difference.
    Few other questions maybe you can answer:
    - do the lights underneath show the status of mute and if you are "joined" and in a meeting?
    - are the lights/status changes of the lights easy to see when on your desk/are they bright enough?
    - does the mute button work regardless of if you have the meeting app focused? (does it "mute" just the mic on the hardware or does it also set your teams/zoom call statues to muted? if so, do you have to have said app "in focus" in order for it to work?)
    thank you! im curious to the above because a lot of that was promoted on the logi site but not sure how much made it into this version/firmware.

    I've been waiting for reviews of this for months. It seems pretty great but I just looked up the price and... wow.
    Edit: So I was somewhat won over by the audio quality and the pricing of similar items but then I saw the dual monitor support and was both disappointed and confused. I run dual 4k monitors at 60hz off a 3 year old video card (albeit a desktop) at the office. I'm shocked that this dock, in 2022, can't push dual 4k at 60hz. I'll have to double-check but I believe my Surface Book dock can push dual 4k at 60hz using DisplayPort and I've had that dock for years.
    My confusion comes with the details of 'what' display we're talking about here - I found the table referenced in the video and it doesn't seem to explain which ports we're talking about effectively. Are we talking USB-C displays? Or DisplayPort with HDMI 1.2? It mentions the resolution of one HDMI plus two DP's, but not one HDMI and one DP. I guess I need to email their support staff.

    • @CameronDoughertyTech
      @CameronDoughertyTech  Před 2 lety

      It’s definitely not cheap. I similarly was eagerly awaiting the release and, in the interim, was thinking about how to create something similar but for cheaper. The closest I could get would be a speakerphone (like the ones from Jabra or Anker) plus a USB hub (like Dell, Sabrent, Anker, etc.). No matter how I sliced it, you’re getting close to the $300-400 range in order to get decent quality components. So in that case, the $400 price tag for an all-in-one package starts feeling more reasonable. Still a lot though.

    • @jerkychew899
      @jerkychew899 Před 2 lety

      @@CameronDoughertyTech Yeah, after doing the same, my sticker shock lowered a bit. It depends on how well this Logi dock works - If it can handle the directional audio mentioned but not demo'd in the video and run two displays at 4k 120hz, it might be worth it. But you could get a USB-C dock and a Logi P710E for around $300... But certainly close.

      @@CameronDoughertyTech When I press the volume up or down key on my logitech keyboard it causes a glitch and the keyboard won't stop sending the volume up/down command unless you do a hard reset. Logitech knows about this and took a year to issue a firmware fix for the most expensive keyboards they sell (MX Mechanical) but still nothing for the moderately priced keyboards like mine (K375s).
      Logitech's main business is keyboards and they couldn't even get that right or fix something so basic.. Do you trust them with something this complex?
