    I just purchased a small battery powered headphone amp from Amazon just for use with my quest2… I’m going to use some Velcro to keep it attached to the back of my kiwi design strap. I have a lot of headphones, I hoping it will sound good with my hifiman planars I have laying around. I own the DAS head strap as well, and the sound quality is kinda meh, and I can’t fit headphones over it, but it’s convenient.

      @SaddestClown  Před 2 lety +2

      That is an intersting option for higher impedance headphones. I would love to hear about your experience with it once you have tested it a little. I wonder if it might add a little latency and possibly noise to the audio. I know the VR ears have an internal amplifier but were made so cheaply they ended up just making a ton of white noise. so I would be interested to see if there is a viable low cost option

    • @SaddestClown
      @SaddestClown  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Agreed. The audio solution on the index/reverb G2 was my cross comparison standard. Apparently there is now an audio solution for the quest that utilizes the same design and drivers as the index speakers, but it plugs in to the USB-C port, and only fits over the official meta branded headstrap which means you have to sacrifice the external battery banks and comfort to use it, so these headphones are the closest I was able to come to index quality audio without compromising on play time. They might not be completely off ear, but they are comfy and dont even touch your ears. They are warmer than off ear though.

    • @SaddestClown

      Great feedback! If I'm not mistaken the 602s have the same drivers in them (the massdrop version seemed to be a budget refresh). I never tried the 602s myself though, so I didnt want to speculate on comparisons (in case there were any noticeable differences from the angle of the driver or something). So it is great to know both headsets pack the same punch.

      @@SaddestClown Yes, the drivers are the same, it also (in my option) better build because the thing has metal all over it, mainly it's in the headband, but that makes it a lot heavier than the PC38X, so I've just been using the PC38X for PCVR/quest gaming and 602s for flat screen gaming because 602s are more heavier and more made for your boots on the ground flat screen gaming, but both will do just fine, but you mostly know the arctic 7+/P's by SteelSeries but more for lightweight a option for a single player (E.G the climb 2, trust me you want lightweight EVERYTHING that game) but again it will do fine with multiplayer games

    To anyone thinking about getting these headphones. They will not work out of the box with your quest 2. They come with a 2.5mm plug to connect to your audio source. The quest 2, and almost all other headset plugs needs a 3.5.
    Normally this would not be a problem, just switch it out with a 3.5 cable. At least on mine that is not a possibility as the way the cable itself connects to the headset it needs to be the exact size of the port hole, thus the factory cable is all you can use.
    I am not saying don't get this head set, but if you do get a 2.5 female to 3.5 male adaptor with it

    • @SaddestClown
      @SaddestClown  Před rokem +1

      that is wierd. mine came with both a 3.5 male 2 in 1 connector as well as a 3.5 separate mic and stereo cable. is it possible you are confusing the specs for the cable that plugs into the headset itself? because that end is a 2.5mm, but that is only on the headset side, the other end of the cable fits a standard 3.5 mm jack.
      if it doesnt come with the standard 3.5 mm jack that is a change in the spec that I was not aware of.

    • @Rosaslav
      @Rosaslav Před 2 měsíci

      The cable on these headphones is removable, the 2,5mm end goes into headphones. 2,5mm is used there to save space inside headphones.

    • @SaddestClown
      @SaddestClown  Před měsícem

      I personally hate the battery strap. they messed with the rear pad and turned it into a wierd, wiggly bracket thing. it's awful. I bought an adapter kit for the q2 version of the strap with no battery. way better. but I dont know if that option is still available either. but it is likely a halo strap from a third party vendor will do just as well. the key is making sure there is sufficient clearance above the ear that the headphones can sit flush against your skull

  • @SirSethery
    @SirSethery Před 10 měsíci

    I happen to already have a PC38x that I don't use very often anymore, so this is great news. I was leaning towards getting a Kiwi strap when it comes out for my Quest 3, but I have no idea if the headset will work as well for Kiwi as it does for BoboVR.

    • @SaddestClown
      @SaddestClown  Před 10 měsíci

      Havent tried the kiwi strap, but I can say that the clearance above the ear with the bobo strap is kind of critical. Over ear headphones will provide better audio if they are able to make a full seal around the ear. So if your head strap gets in the way, not only will it be less comfortable, you may lose some of the soundscape clarity.

    Out of curiosity - do you think that open back headphones help with directional sound vs closed? Dunno if this was an intentional part of your tests. I have a pretty good set of closed back, but have been curious about open vs closed as heard this mentioned at some point.

    • @SaddestClown
      @SaddestClown  Před 2 lety +4

      I do actually think that open backed makes a difference in sound staging. when you hear things in real life, you hear them with both ears. so if something is on your right side, you still hear it in your left ear, just at a lower volume and at a miniscule difference in timing. your brain is able to catch those tiny differences and piece together the location of that sound. so while open backed headphones arent the EXACT same listening experience as listening to real world audio, they do offer a much closer analog than closed back, and are WAY closer than earbuds.

  • @StealthJim
    @StealthJim Před 2 lety

    Great video. I actually use the vr ears for now as they were cheap ($40 on eBay), a definite upgrade over the quest 2 speaker and headphones in vr seem to screw with my balance. I wonder if the open backs on the pc38x will help a bit with that - I have tried some beyerdynanics dt770s before.

      I rescued Google eye horse from the dumpster of my apartment complex. It makes me giggle So I figured I should feature it.
      The VR ears are a great idea ON PAPER. But the low quality components in them make for a listening experience that is about as good as listening to a radio station that is out of range. So much white noise, some frequencies are way too hot while others are barely audible. I used them for a couple play sessions and hated every minute of it.

      @@StealthJim Same! I've been using VR Ears since they shipped out from Kickstarter a while back. I did have to spend a significant amount of time getting them properly set up and angled, but once in place I absolutely LOVE them. I've been using them with a BoboVR M2 Pro battery strap. I wonder if there is a lot of inconsistency in their manufacturing as I've never experienced a single issue with noise, rattles, distortion, or anything. The directional audio with the built-in Quest 2 speakers was certainly there, but there wasn't enough dynamic range or volume. For me, VR Ears actually solved all of that. My only complaint is that everyone else can hear the audio coming out of them as well, but that's how off-ear works. Lol.

      @genedragon Před 2 lety

      @@SaddestClown , did some research and found the explanation for why earbuds can't image a soundstage:
      "...passive soundstage performance is bad, but this is normal from closed-back, in-ear headphones. To create an out-of-head audio experience, your outer ear needs to be activated by sound resonances. However, these headphones bypass your outer ear by design, so sound seems like it's coming from inside your head rather than coming from speakers placed in the room around you. Since they don't have a open-back design, the soundstage seems closed-off and not very spacious."

      I have never found any ear buds that truly offer a solid soundscape. with open backed headphones each ear will still hear the input that the other ear is hearing only with less volume and at a microsecond delay (just like you do when you hear a sound in the real world), and the fact that there is zero latency between the action and the audio is critical to helping your brain figure out the inputs you are recieving. besides, wireless earbuds tend to just be awful. they might not be bluetooth (which is garbage) but its probably not in the same ballpark as entry level audiophile headphones like these guys.

    • @SaddestClown
      @SaddestClown  Před 2 lety

      While I do not have hands on experience with those headsets, the spec sheet on the H6 pro does list a 28 ohm impedance. I know that the pc38x was made with the exact same drivers as the sennheiser gsp500, so it's possible those drivers are also being used in other headsets as well... the 560S on the other hand has a much higher impedance, which means they are going to get the best results with a bit more amplification. They are good headphones that will give you a nice listening experience, but they arent going to let subtle audio signals pop like the PC 38x can.

      Solid as ever. The only issues I ever had with the quest 3 were software related. For example in the quest 3 build for pop one standalone the audio mix was a mess and I couldn't spatially place sounds. But playing with the quest 3 over airlink on the steam build of the game I had no issues. So that ultimately just comes down to the game devs dropping the ball on including a spatial audio solution into the standalone version of the game. But the headphones themselves still performed exceptionally well with the quest 3

    Just got them in ... Directional sound on these guys is certainly an advantage in the close quarter combat. The only BIG problem is that it's almost too emersive!! Somebody can come hit me on the head I would be clueless.
    (Still need to play around with the game sound settings. Every weapon I shoot is blowing my ears off. SFX , Master Sound, Music ..?? ) LOL, thanks Saddest I need all the help I can get HERNANDEZ_007
