Thank you for making this video. I drive a 1997 1500; same generation as your truck. My tail lights and dash lights have crapped out, and from everything that I have read, the problem is the direct result of this switch going bad. This video makes my life much easier next weekend.

Great video, I have 1991 Dodge Ram and my lights have recently gone into Cop Car Mode, headlights flashing, people driving to the shoulder to get out of my way, all I need is a siren and I will beat all the traffic home. So this is also a first gen problem as well. I will replace the switch, not bad for 24 years of use I guess.

You can avoid burning your switch again by installing relays to power the headlights which draws high current instead of the headlight switch. The switch would power the relays which would power the headlights. Check youtube for how to do that.

On the back of the unit, opposite side of the connectors, there is a small metal silver release trigger that's sticking out and you push to remove the pigtail. Then I found it easier to attach the plate with the screw first, then insert the pigtail through the plastic.
