- How to remove headlights without removing the grill!!!
Big thanks to corneileous from DODGE RAM FORUMS for telling me this. Hope this saves everyone some time when changing out front headlight bulbs.
Here is the updated video to this one.

I can’t figure out the “L Bracket” part
Try watching this Sean. I go way into depth about it and show visuals.

Nothing to it
Dont over think it
Slide one way to lock into light slide other way to release.
Up or down
Once you remove the light you will see how it works
I just want to thank you for this video. Popped the headlights housings out, replaced the bulbs and done. Easy Peasy! Thank you very much!
Thank you for watching!
I'm glad it all worked out brother.
Thanks, simple directions and saves buku time from removing unnecessary grill. For what it's worth, I removed the lower screw so it was easier to install the headlight assembly. Then I took some painters tape and taped the edge of the washer on the screw to my socket so it was easy to place the screw into the nut.
Thanks brother. I have a 2019 ram classic. Your videos have helped me learn AlphaObd, install and set up the EVIC gauges. Activate turn signal DRL's. Enable factory alarm. And this weekend I'll be installing my led headlights with switchback turn signals. So I'm sure I'll be back watching again. Haha. 👍
SUPERB!!!
WORKED perfectly on my 2019 classic.
What a time saver!! Hilarious delivery too.
Thanks brother!
Glad it worked out for you.
I appreciate you watching and your support.
This is dead on. By far the easiest way to change the headlights. The only thing I would add is on a 5500, once you release the clip in the fender well give the headlight a little push while your hand is in there. It made the headlight come right out vs having to pull so much from the fender side of the headlight. GREAT VIDEO!!
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it.
And I appreciate the tit for the 5500!
Man!!! Thank you! It took me no time to replace the bulb without taking the grill and radiator cover off. I appreciate your video! 2016 Ram 3500.. Al R.
Thank you for the info. After taking my truck apart the first time to change the headlight bulbs in my 2020 Ram 3500 I decided to look for a CZcams of any ideas that could save me time and work. After watching your video I decided to go through the fender well access I saw on your video. I was able to reach through and changed my bulb in 5 min with only a flathead screwdriver. Thank you soooo much!!
Worked great! Thank you. Be sure to work the socket joint side loose first, which allows some clearance near the grill to easily remove the other side of the housing. Great video. Thank you.
Sorry for the late reply, but thank you for watching Rich! I'm glad everything worked out.
I'm NOT a mechanic, wasn't looking forward to this...it worked!! Did both lights in less than half an hour. Thanks to you and Cornelius!
You're welcome sir.
Thank you for watching.

Thanks man! I just removed and reinstalled drivers side headlamp assembly in less than 30 minutes. Cleaned and readjusted the vent caps to prevent condensation. If this does not resolve condensation issue I'll yank it out again and remove one of the filter screens entirely. Appreciate you posting this.
Worked just like you said on 2010 RAM. Actually replaced the housings because they originals were faded so bad. My bolt heads were 10mm and used a piece of electrical tape over the socket to hold the screw in place. Easy Peezy pice of cake. Thanks!!!
No problem Jimmy Glad I could help.
And great tip on the tape.
Thanks to both of you. To the point, mine took almost an hour for both sides.
I love It when a plan come together!
I’m so glad I watched this video. Needless to say it’s saving me time and money.
Hey Terry, Glad I can help.
And thank you for watching and your support!
My almost eighty year old dad got a used 2017 Ram 1500. He was surprised to find the dealership's warranty did not cover headlight bulbs. He was also used to the bulbs just blowing, not dimming over time as he found out. I told him that I just bought some LED lights for him last night and when they come in, I will replace the bulbs for him. Your video will definitely give him peace of mind, as he freaks out when he sees me pull the plastic grille off my Jeep Wrangler, which is a lot less complicated.
If you have to remove the radiator cover might as well remove the grill. It's only 4 easily accessed bolts. Takes maybe 60 seconds.
Going from a quad headlight to projector and I was dreading taking my grill apart thank you man
Did this for my new projector halo headlights. Done before sundown thanks to your video!
Glad it helped you out David!
Thanks for watching man
Excellent video! Saved me a lot of time and headache. Thank you very much for sharing this video with us.
No problem Tony.
Thank you for your support man!
Awesome!!! It took me all of seven minutes to do both sides. Thank you!
Little side tip... Stuff the 10mm with petroleum jelly and it will hold onto the long bolt on the bottom for going out and in with it.

Glad to hear Bobby!
Thanks for watching and your support!
Thank you Buddy!!! Literally 15 minutes and I was done!!!
Awesome to hear Dan!
Thanks for watching brother
I did this and it worked great. Apparently the guy that owned my truck before changed the bulb a few times. The bottom hole in the head light assembly was cut off so the bolt doesn’t have to be taken out all the way. Saved me time because the problem wasn’t with the bulb but with the harness.
Glad it all worked out Chuck!
Thanks for watching brother
Hey this worked great! Visited the discount tool store and got a 12" socket extension and had the light out in a few minutes!
Awesome to hear Josh!
Glad i could help
Thanks man I just replaced my whole headlight bezels without removing the grill thanks to your video. The bezels were leaking and fogging up on me.
Glad it went well Jonathan!
Thanks for watching and the tip brother!
Dude!!!! Super helpful!! Great tip. Worked awesome
Thanks brother. Glad It helped.
Genius.Good example of working smarter not harder.I would add for that bottom bolt before removing the headlight to use an extension magnet and pulling it out.
I took your advice and actually made another video showing just that!
Thanks again!
Totally worked! Great video! I’m glad you gave props to Cornelius 😂😂😂
Awesome... Gracias Cornelius...Thank you for sharing this with us.. Semper Fi...
So I have a 2020 classic. Did a similar build on extensions like you did. I only upgraded low beams to leds. Left the lower bolt/screw in place but undone. Pushed fixture outward from fenderwell door so that outer edge rotated out and I was able to swap each side out in maybe 3 or 4 minutes each. Remember to push the inner tab up to release and down to lock.
Hey Boss Gonzalez, I'm glad you had success with it. It is quite the time saver right!
I really like this method because I don't have to worry about accidentally breaking the tabs on my grill.
Thanks for watching and your support brother!
@@chuck7432 the first side was difficult at first but I remember either pushing forward or pulling back at the same time I was pulling the tab down. Leave bolts in place until you free the tab.
@@chuck7432 any luck?
Worked like a charm! 2009 Ram 1500 SLT 4x4
Thank for taking the time to make this video!!
Thank you for watching!
I would like to know where you live because I never wanted a hug another man so much right now. Went to change my lights yesterday and gave up because I was about to take a Sawzall and cut my fenders off. Wow thank you 💯👍
Thank you for the very informative video. And thank you Cornelius!
Thank you for your support Todd!
tks for the video, I have to change the light bolds today.... I have a ram 1500, 2017 longhorn and it worked, very easy.
Thanks for watching and your support rick.
I am disabled. This is the great thing ever. Took no time at all. Thank You Sir!!!!
No problem Darryl, I'm glad it all worked out for you.
No one cares you’re disabled stop wearing it like a badge. Disabled people are a drain on society
I can't wait to try this out. Thanks for the tip.
No problem Edwards journey.
Let me know your success story!
Thanks for watching
Thanks for the tips, my 2012 has a slider unlock behind the assembly, access thru the door in the wheel well. I also loosened up the 3 fender screws to get my hand behind the light assembly and pull it loose easier.
Strangely enough, my lights just have a short somewhere, i tried to unplug the main connection but it would not come out easily but that seemed to be enough to get my lights to come back on!
Thank you so much for sharing and posting this. This would of came in handy a month ago 😆
So glad I kept scrolling to your video!!!! 5 stars rating!
Thanks Jason L, I'm glad you kept scrolling too LOL.
Thanks for watching and your support!
So did you have to pull back the top radiator cover from each side? I’m new to owning a 4th gen Ram Diesel. ✌🏽
Thanks for the info , done both of my headlight less then 30 mins today .
Right on! Glad it all came together Mike.
Thank you for this!
Works good. Just did my 2014 Longhorn Laramie with projection HL's.
Glad to hear about your success Mark.
Thanks for the comment and your support!
Great video, worked liked a charm, saved so much time
Thanks for the compliment rod.
Now you have more time to watch the rest of my videos! 🤣
@@bigdaddyshouse Will do.
Thanks for the video. I took my Ram 2500 to Walmart. They said they couldn't replace the bulb because they had to take too much stuff apart. I guess the guy who replaced the last bulb didn't share his secret. Now I will save money and do it myself!
Glad I could help!
Worked dandy for me today on my 2014 Ram 1500. I would advise putting some painters tape (or electrical tape) around hole to protect the paint as you wiggle the lamp assembly in and out.
That's a good point AZRickD!
Thanks for the additional tip brother.
I wish I had seen this Sunday when I replaced my low beam headlight on the passenger side on my 2014 Ram 3500 dually. I did however discover that I had the wrong bulbs and had to drive to the larts store with grille and radiator cover strapped down in bed of truck and headlight assembly on bunk in the back. That's when I found out that not only do I have projection headlights (that I didn't know I had) that I also have 3 broken clips on my grille. They only have half the wing pieces. Now to find a video on how to remove/replace them... I'll try this next time. One question though. That bolt at the bottom is the adjustment bolt for adjusting the headlight beam. Will doing it that way make the adjustment shift? Or did you just loosen it up as I didn't see it come out when you took your very long extension out. I'm new to all of this. Gotta learn what I can on the fly as most of my breakdowns happen on the weekend when no shops are open. Thank you in advance!!
I have done all that you show on the video but cannot get the part of the headlight assembly closest to the wheel well assembly to release.
I can’t get my fingers under it to pull out.
2013 Ram 1500 that has never had the head lights removed.
Can I apply pressure from inside the access door inside the wheel well to help the ball seat on the back of the headlight assembly pull out of the hole that accepts it ?
If so where is a safe place to push against the back of the headlight assembly?
Thanks
Awesome thank you both 🙏
This is s good trick and tip. For my 2015 2500.. The grill did have to come off. It is only four 10mm screws from the top. But thank you for the video..
To save me the time of reaching underneath a hundred times, what size socket does the bolt require? Not sure if it said on the video or not. Thanks a bunch
This is amazing. Thank you.
You're welcome and thank you for watching!
Thanks, great tip.👍
This saved me so much time
Man, I appreciate ya. I did not feel like fooling with that grill. 10 minutes... Done.
How did you get the 10mm bolt at bottom out. Did not see it in socket?
You're my hero Thanks for the video AND I get to buy a new extension!!!
Hahahaha! Thanks Pete! Glad I could help.
Thanks for watching and your support brother.
hardest part of the job was the return trip to the parts store to get the right bulb 💡
@@PeteATurner That part sucks. I had to do the same thing. Now I know which ones to get. 2012 low, 2005 high for projection lights.
@@tonyacrawford8656 trial and error? IDK

Nice useful video. Thank you, Sir.
Thank you for watching!
Well that changed my days work tomorrow. Thanks man
Hey Shawn, I hope all goes well for you.
I did make a newer video that goes into depth about that lever behind the headlight.
It may be helpful to have a visual before you get into it.
Thanks for watching brother
Thank You Cornelius!
You could attach a magnet to your extension and pull that bottom bolt to remove it and keep it in place when dropping it back in the slot to reattach.
Les you are right. I have done just that several times in the past.
Probably going to do that again soon on my next video.
Thanks for watching
That's awesome but not all Dodge Rams are the same I got one I need the driver side light out its 21 ram 1500 lone Star so any advice for that one lol
Awesome info!
Thank you Sir
Thanks for the how-to video!
You're welcome Barbara.

Wow this works Great. Thank you.
Thank you for your support Michael
Thank you for easy job
When I order my new headlights, how do I know whats left or right. Is it Facing the truck?
Exactly how is the white clip removed or unfastened? Hate to keep pulling and break it?
Can you adjust the height of the light beam like this?
What size are the 3 bolts that hold the headlamp assembly? Lost mine somehow
Great tip. I'm like you. I wish that I seen this 30 minutes ago. I just finished putting the grill back on my 2011, came in to get some pizza and voila your video appeared. Lol. I'll know next time I guess.
Lol!
Siri and Google are definitely listening!
Well like I said to some of the other guys, like it and share it.
Maybe someone else will get to see it BEFORE they've already taken their grill off. hahahaha
I appreciate your support though brother.
Hell ya. This is how I did it 2016
Used a 10 mill, so it was really snug to get that extention part of the job 👍🤙
10 min job thanks to this video!
What headlight assemblies are those? And do you like them?
Thank you so much. ❤
Nice video thanks for that. What's the name of those headlights? I like them
Thank you friend!!!
What the biscuits!!!! Love this video!!!
Thanks brother!
😷 2 funny about a couple of years ago I had the same problem. 🤔 So there HAD 2B a better way And now you posted this video with the SAME solution I had figured out. So today I had a headlight problem didn't remember so went to u tube videos and flash backs of FRUSTRATION 😥😥 came back. Then ur video came up 👏👏👏👏 thanks for your video brought me back to a HAPPY PLACE 🤣🤣🤣🤣. So my thx for ur post . Stay safe/healthy during this period of the pandemic 😷
I actually took the idea from you, I'm sorry I didn't give you credit brother....
Lol
But for real I'm glad I brought you back to a happy time.
Thanks for your support brother!
😷NP it's OUT THERE that's all that MATTERS 👍👍😷
Glad I could help.
And you stay healthy too brother! 👍
First I’d like to thank you for the information. I had trouble trying to get my grill out even with the two videos I watch.
I only needled to replace the right front amber turn signal bulb so I found a way that literally only takes about 10 seconds.
The plastic door under the wheel well leads right to the turn signal bulb. So, if that is all you need to replace, just open the plastic door, turn the bulb slightly to detach it from the headlight housing, pull it out and snap a new bulb in. Then reverse the process to finish.
Literally about a 5-10 second job.
Thank you Dodge for making life easier. Now I have time to go watch another UFC fight.
On my 2015 2500 6.7
there is a panel you can flip open in the wheel well (passenger side only). On the drivers side, I just reach up under the front side to access the bulb.
Wow my dad had to fiddle with both of them for a couple hours this is definitely going to help when I plan to upgrade my headlights
Thank you big daddy and thank Cornelius for me too
LOL!! This is how I did it!! Before checking you tube!! I used a 1/4" socket driver.
Great Video..
Thanks John I appreciate the support.
Lol thanks buddy I just took off my whole grill yesterday but next time now got do my window regulator u know easy way
Awesome thanks great video
Thanks Jamie, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
This seems great, but what about the leveling sleeve that's located on that lower bolt ? .. doesn't that have to be held in place while loosening the bolt ? .
Hey Drew, sorry for the way late reply!
I have probably done this two dozen times and I've never had a problem with the leveling sleeve moving.
My lights have never changed. Still level.
Thanks for watching and your support!
Amazing 🤩
Thank you sir.
It's funny to me I've been doing it The hard way before this lol.
Thanks for watching brother.
What sizes did you use ?! To build that
Love those headlights. Where can I get a set?
Thank you Cornelius, really funny.
Thank you L P.
Glad you enjoyed.
I appreciate you watching and your support.
It definitely was a very quick shortcut, but installing the last bolt with the extension I lost my socket, swivel, and extension... had to remove the grill anyways. Thx bro
Hey Ryan, you lost all of it? I'm trying to picture that in my head. Are your sockets and extensions loose?
Thanks Cornelius im doing this tomorrow!
How did it go?
@@bigdaddyshouse not good! one of the headlights was broken 😕 I had to send them back!!
Damn man. Broke in shipping?
I know the feeling all too well of waiting anxiously for something and it's showing up broken.....
Sorry to hear that brother.
Used this method on my 2018 2500; worked on the left side; couldn't get the light off on the right so had to remove the grill. But the grill was much easier than other videos showed.
Hey Salty 25, it's not that removing the grill is necessarily hard, it's just one false move and you snap a tab and you'llhate yourself. Lol
Did you ever figure out what was making the right side difficult to remove?
@@bigdaddyshouse Mine came off a little different. Took off the four bolts and it just came forward, it didn't pivot to the right some videos showed.
@@bigdaddyshouse It was just hitting the grill. When I removed the grill it just continued forward and came off.
Great video what year Ram is that? I have a 17 ram and wanted to change bulbs and not having to remove grill would be great! 😬
Thanks Rick, I got a 2014.
Yours should be exactly the same.

Thanks for watching and your support brother!
Will this work for a 2022 dodge ram 1500 big horn
Hey Deron, sorry for the late reply. if it's a 2022 classic, then yes.
You will also need to bypass harness to make this work also.
Thanks for watching and your support
Awesome nothing like doing it the smart way as opposed to the long way.
Hey guy, that's what I've been saying all along!
Thank you for your support brother.
