For those who weren't in the path of totality, the reason there was such a halabaloo was because it was an absolutely insane thing to see during totality. If you had to wear the glasses the whole time, it wasn't totality. You had to take your glasses off to see it. Pictures do it absolutely no justice, it was crazy.

We travel up to New Hampshire to see it, had 2 and a half minutes of totality up there with clear skies. INSANELY cool experience.

I saw a total eclipse where I come from 25 years ago. I was a teenager and my mom had taken me and my best friend for a city trip to Berlin during our summer break. We happened to sit in a café that had a huge skylight ceiling. I remember some Japanese tourist excitedly taking pictures. We dutifully watched it through our foil glasses, but more impressive for us was how it felt like dusk for a good while in the middle of the day. It was an impressive experience for everyone, but I don't remember too much craziness tbh.
To witness the next total eclipse in that region I would have to 97 years old. But as you would have it, I moved abroad 10 years ago, and where I live now the next total eclipse will be in August 2026, so I hope I'll catch that one too :)

I got to go to a cannabis event for the eclipse (path of toke-ality 😂) and there was a dab bar and everyone was just sitting in a field smoking blunts watching the eclipse. They had growers giving out free pre rolls and free merch. A great memorable day

i looked at the eclipse without glasses because it literally wasn’t visible with them on once it was full totality. no blindness or lingering affect at all so 🤷‍♀️ worth it for me otherwise i’d have completely miss it leaving the glasses on

Yeah when the sun is totally eclipsed it’s fine to look at with the naked eye but if you want to see it partially eclipsed you need the glasses otherwise your just starting at the sun

You can look at it without glasses if it’s during totality. But even 99% coverage you need glasses.

Full totality is meant to be seen without glasses. It's when it's a partial eclipse that you need the glasses.
