  • Water crossings are a hazard in the early summer months, especially during high snowpack years. Research water crossings on your trail to find current reports on water volume and flow rates. When coming to a crossing, try to avoid crossing by yourself. And be ready to walk a mile or two upstream or downstream to find a more suitable crossing. Risks include falling and wetting out your gear, getting caught in an under stream log or brush (also known as a strainer), injuring yourself, and hypothermia.
