making our backpack less stable. Chest strap is a good idea, but I don't like unbuckling the waistband.

I’ve never undone any buckle when going over a log water crossing… like you said balance haha! Now if I need to physically go into the water yes straps are off but at that point I usually have my bag over my head because the water is waste deep!
