Casio 5600/5610 "Combi" Bracelet Comparison Review and Measurements (v1, v2, and AliExpress copy)

  • What is up, my watch friends?!? In this video, I'm trying to cover all things "combi."
    Maybe I should have used a click-bait title, like "Don't buy a combi bracelet until you watch this!" I'd have to then punch myself in my own face for that nonsense.
    Anyway... This video topic came up because several buddies in discord were curious about the differences between the various Casio 5600/5610 combination bracelets (a.k.a. "combi" bracelets). So, I set them up for a detailed side-by-side comparison, including close-up shots of the colors and textures, weight comparisons, detailed measurements, and then I give my overall thoughts on them and share how to acquire them.
    This video includes the version 1 combi, the version 2 combi, and then a combi clone that I got from AliExpress. I hope the information shared here is helpful for anyone interested in getting one, or three, of these.
    If it were up to me, all G-Shocks would have combi bracelets as an option. In fact, I think Casio needs to start making these in different colors and then selling them as accessories. Casio, if you're reading this... All the G-Shock addicts and squareaholics would love that! Let's get em in the making!

      I got my authentic V1 Combi and it's so much better than the Ali clone version. One weird thing though. My G-Shock logo on the clasp was upside down. It was an easy fix. The double push button deployant mechanism is removeable (like they almost always are) and with that removed the raised logo on the clasp can be pushed through the clasp towards the back , rotated, and pressed back in from the back. My bracelet is definitely authentic. Just a simple mix up. No problem.

      @@sleepinglysithia Aweomse! Congrats! I totally agree, the OEM ones are much, much higher quality. I have found that the AliX ones do a good enough job (for a fraction of the cost), and I notice their lack of quality slightly less when I'm actually wearing it (as compared to when I hold the AliX one and the OEM one up side-by-side). But, I'm slowly yet surely collecting OEM V1 bracelets to put all of my Gs on. It's still my favorite and top pick all around.

    QUESTION: Are the bracelets called "Combis" because of the stainless steel snap clasp mechanism/design, or because some have dual materials e.g., steel & plastic, or because they don't come in two "separate pieces" like the resin straps, or it's just a trade name?

      I don't think you'll be disappointed or regret going with a combi bracelet. After some extended wear and trials, I have discovered that the v1 and v2 Casio bracelets are different sizing, so they wear differently. I'll do a follow-up video about all that soon to explain what I've experienced when comparing the two. There's more to it though than just finding one more aesthetically appealing or the weight differences (which is what I originally thought).

They are slightly less refined and the clasp isn't as good as the OEM, but I haven't noticed a problem with their overall durability (for example, I haven't had one fall apart or anything). These bracelets aren't nice enough to justify paying over 100 dollars for. If I have a 90 dollar Strapcode on my Rolex, why would I buy a 150 dollar bracelet for my g shock 😂 I beat the g shock up quite a bit, but if it had a solid clasp or titanium I might be more likely to buy one. Thanks for watching. I suspect your best bet will be to keep an eye on eBay. Or, if you're in any watch groups/forums, you could do an ISO post (in search of) and hopefully find someone not using theirs. I'm guessing you'll want to buy within the EU because of import fees and taxes. I'm not in the EU, but I see many watch enthusiasts in the facebook groups and forums talking about it. Depending on how much just the bracelet is going for, you might be best off buying a watch that comes with the combi, and then if you wanted to recoup some of the cost you could sell the watch head/module. Or, there's always the AliExpress version, which costs considerably less (although I'm not sure if AliExpress purchases will incur fees/taxes; they don't for us here in the States). Good luck in your search!

I have an Amazon special for my Fit-bit and the weight on it was noticeably light but I will say it does make wearing the watch hardly noticeable

    • @HorologyinSanity
      @HorologyinSanity  Před 4 lety

      "Diamond Plate"... that's the wording I was looking for and could not find! Thanks Archie. As for the durability of the finish, I'll need to go back and take a closer look at them. They don't really have a coating or anything, so I think it'll just be the durability of the plastic/resin used, which I suspect the Casio OEM bracelets will outlast the AliExpress bracelet by miles and miles and miles. Interesting, since they're all held together with spring bars, I don't think they'll be as durable as a SS bracelet with pin & collar or screw pins. I don't even think they'll be as durable as the standard G-Shock rubber straps. But, as you've said, the minimalist weight makes them hardly noticeable on wrist, which is cool.

      I mention a few ways to get them in the video. Additionally, you can check some parts manufacturers, like PacParts, to get a new OEM one.

      I used Google Translate to read your comment. That's a very good suggestion. I'll see if I can figure out how to add subtitles, and then we'll see if we can do that in other languages besides English. Thanks for watching and thanks for the great feedback! 🙂
