    I feel bad for the Phazon elite and Omega Pirate. One of their logs mentions that their life spans are greatly decreased because of the space roid goo, and poor Phazon Elite can't even see out of his one eye. Even if they killed you, they probably are dropping dead shortly after. Also Omega says "Attack" if I recall correctly. The first english spoken in the series until Corruption.

    I absolutely hated Thardus my first playthrough but after I played it time and time again the more he quickly rose to the top of my boss list. But Omega Pirate is still by favorite part of the game, I remember being especially hyped seeing the Phazon Suit for the first time back when I was 13 thinking it was the coolest method of obtaining a powerup the game will ever do.

    The room in front of the Parasite Queen always had a Save Station there btw, it's always been Babby's First Boss Fight.
    Also, most of the game will be either a boring slog or ridiculously easy once you've mastered the game like we have. That's why you NEED to play on Hard Mode (or whatever the max difficulty is called these days). Otherwise, foes like Meta Ridley aren't the threat they're supposed to be. Don't hesitate to challenge yourself.

    Can't disagree with this list. They made the boss fights much better in Echoes, but Prime is still my favorite out of the trilogy because of the world, soundtrack, and story in general.

  • @omegasoup4164
    @omegasoup4164 Před rokem +3

    I’m happy with my character growth after my initial response to Metroid Prime and Ridley being placed 4th and 3rd respectively was to be interested in what you have to say instead of upset that your opinion didn’t match one to one with my own. This won’t stop me from defending Ridley though.
    I have no defense for Metroid Prime but I will defend Ridley by saying
    1. Cool factor is a perfectly viable reason for a boss fight to be better than it would be simply based off gameplay
    2. Ridley is cool
    3. The first phase of the fight makes sense (why wouldn’t Ridley fly around making himself a harder target?) and is also cool, and since Ridley is cool and flying is cool AND cyborgs are cool that makes for cool cubed or something

  • @Genasidal
    @Genasidal Před rokem +4

    I think what's interesting when discussing the 3 Ridley fights, my favourite one is the theoretically simplest of the fights, but cinematicaly, the best Ridley fight in the entire Metroid series.
    Something about barreling down towards the vacuum of space whilst 2 sworn rivals are more concerned with murdering each other is so fucking cool to me. And the ending with Samus opening his mouth and unloading as many shots as she can into his gullet is peak Samus behaviour.
    I LOVE that fight, and I'm usually not one for the more "cinematic" fights in games, but something about that one is brilliant. The way he can grab you too makes great use of the perspective.
    I only wish Omega Ridley had an expansion on the grapple concept where he can snatch you and smash you against walls, and you have to shoot him to get him off you whilst he bashes you like an action figure. Would make him seem even more pissed off (kinda like in the subspace emissary cutscene in super smash bros brawl, except you can fight back!)

    This is a rare case of a game being called a remaster and I think it actually deserves that. A lot of supposed remasters just seem like a port with the equivalent of turning your graphics settings to ultra.
    Reworking all the visual assets and rendering techniques while leaving the underlying core of the game is what I'd call an actual remaster.

  • @x-celsius5905

    I honestly might switch meta ridley and thardus, but other than that this list is solid. Nothing against thardus, i just think the fight drags even more than Ridley's. Meta Ridley just feels so fulfilling to fight. It's the whole reason Samus is on tallon iv in the first place: she was chasing ridley. The winged phase can be annoying, but it's still a bit better than thardus, who is just too repetitive. Omega pirate is definitely a great pick for number one, and i totally agree with it.
    Also, when you destroy the omega pirate's armor plating, he growls and says "FINISH HER" before summoning beam troopers and vanishing.

    You're list is 100 percent accurate. Gameplay is the most important thing to me as I get older, graphics and cinematics are awesome but gameplay is something you feel and do, and Prime core essence doesn't feel good to fight. What's happening story wise is awesome but damn it's a boring ass battle

  • @kami4242
    @kami4242 Před rokem +4

    To me the Metroid Prime core was meant to be a symbolic fight in the same way the second phase of Mother Brain in Super Metroid was.

  • @rpgfan1187

    Great video, Alex! Metroid Prime is my personal favorite of the trilogy, and, while its bosses don't quite reach the heights of the sequels in my opinion, they don't have the lows, either.
    My personal ranking:
    1. Metroid Prime
    2. Meta Ridley
    3. Omega Pirate
    4. Thardus
    5. Flaahgra
    6. Parasite Queen
    So, reverse order of appearance. Very original, I know. Lol. I can understand why you don't like Metroid Prime and Ridley as much, as they're definitely not flawless battles. For me, phase 1 of Prime is so enjoyable for me that it helps make up for the iffy quality of the second phase. Similarly, Ridley's extended time spent in flight is my biggest gripe with that fight, but the grounded finale of the battle lifts it up for me. Overall, Quadraxis is definitely my favorite boss from the trilogy, though.
    Anyway, I'm enjoying your content as always and look forward to your future uploads!

    Not gonna lie, the Metroid Prime fight on my Hard Mode (100% scans and item collection) run had me sweating bullets. It's probably the hardest fight of my experience with the remaster by far (despite the Omega Pirate fight making me eat my first and only game over).
    I was fully reliant on the Power Bombs to deal with the Metroids whenever they spawned during the Core phase, and unfortunately, my RNG for Power Bomb related pickups was *extremely* bad, legendarily bad, so I entirely ran out. Having to juggle a pair of Fission Metroids while also trying to pay attention to Metroid Prime itself almost made me see a game over. I eventually tried to just power through it and ignore the Metroids entirely. It almost killed me, but I did it.

    I agree that gameplay wise Omega Pirate and Thardus are maybe the best but I've always loved how cinematic and epic the final two bosses are. It really is a culmination of the entire game. It started with chasing Ridley, and finally when you've forgotten all about him collecting artifacts he comes in and tries to ruin your plan once more. The arch nemesis is finally yours to destroy. Him flying around just solidifies the idea that he can fly away at any point. He's powerful, but he keeps trying to thwart Samus' plans, just because he hates her. Seeing him defeated by the chozo as well is such a great moment. The gameplay only enhances the epic scene that unravels.
    Metroid Prime is the evil that you have been hearing about in every single scan. It is the darkness in the depths. It is shockingly ugly when first seeing it. It's important to remember your first reaction seeing this thing hanging there and then opening up as a hideous spider looking creature. The gameplay in this phase is actually really fun, and I think it does deserve a top spot for this phase alone. As far as the last phase, it is less about the gameplay and more about the scene. Again, this is its true form. We finally see how it resembles a Metroid. It's face is revealed. We see Samus dash towards it to kill it. This is also the first time Samus harnesses Phazon with the hyperbeam. That alone is a mirror of Super Metroid when she destroys Mother Brain with the power of the baby metroid. And of course, seeing Metroid Prime take her phazon suit to foreshadow Dark Samus is a great moment. All in all, I think it's easy to pick apart the final bosses because of their cinematic nature, but I'd argue it adds to the experience. Metroid Prime is not a game about constant thrill and action, it's not Halo or Call of Duty. The atmosphere, revelations, visuals, they all add to the experience. That's why the last 2 fights are my favorite.

    I have very mixed feelings about this games boss roster. The first 2 bosses are just fine, but starting with thardus the bosses start getting really tanky. Meta ridely has way too much health in the flying phase, it would probably be the best fight in the game if you cut like 50% of the flying part. The omega pirate is fine in that regard, you can melt his health when you’re hitting him, but breaking his armor can be tedious at points. The Metroid prime just flat out has too much health in phase 1, the core portion took like a quarter of the time phase 1 did.

    The game looks and plays beautifully but I've found that it's too easy. I'm in the impact crater and haven't fought prime yet, but I haven't died a single time yet on the normal game mode. I played prime a lot as a kid so I had a pretty good memory of where to go and the fight mechanics, but I remembered the boss fights being harder. The hard game mode should be available from the first playthrough

    • @Cytonox

      I wondered about this myself so I went back and checked, the “normal” here is the Wii version’s normal and not the GCN one (which was indeed harder). I’ve never been a fan of harder difficulties being locked behind beating the game once either. So yeah, your memory is correct on that

      The light and dark worlds add a lot of confusion to navigation though so I've always felt like mp1 was the better overall game, and the ammo conservation thing can sometimes feel a bit irritating by making it feel like you can't use your powerups very freely

    I would have to agree about metroid prime's core phase. The boss is very boring as it's mainly a patience game more than anything else. There are no other good attacks it does. All it does is a splash attack, which is very boring, and then soon after, it will bring out the phazon pool just to murder its boring phase.

  • @JustAWildSkullKid
    @JustAWildSkullKid Před rokem

    I don't know...I would say this game is amazing but not for the bossfights.
    I mean, the concepts are all cool but my issue is that they take so. freaking. long. to beat!
    The Metroid Prime is the worst to me. Yes I'm bad at playing, but I've watched videos and even the skilled ones still take 10 minutes just for the first phase and I can't stand it, because you're basically doing the same thing for 10 minutes.
    Same goes for Ridley. It drags that first, easy as hell phase for an eternity and then eats you alive in the second, which is cool...but did I really have to wait 20 minutes for him to come down?
    Here's why the Omega Pirate is the best to me. You can make him last forever, or you can use a power bomb, and after that it becomes much easier and faster.
