    Spider Guardian was *miserable* on the GameCube version since there was no spring ball incorporated into the morph ball. Every action had to be meticulously planned and executed on, plus I believe he did more damage.
    Other than that, I'd say I completely agree with this list. I died to the Alpha Blogg and I agree, respawning is awful.

    I know a trick for Alpha Blogg- detour to grab the Darkburst as soon as you can before going to fight him. It takes off half his health in one shot

  • @MarcBrightside
    @MarcBrightside Před 2 měsíci +3

    Tips:
    Quadraxis: The first phase's knees don't cycle randomly; they follow a predictable pattern which persists even after you start destroying them, so you can predict its vulnerability windows fairly easily. In the second phase, if you're low on ammo, you can jump onto one of its leg joints and Screw Attack the antenna to destroy it immediately. Power Bombing the Dark Quads will also destroy their heads and prevent them from shooting at you; it's not necessary to kill them outright because they despawn when Quadraxis enters phase three.
    Power Bomb Guardian: Circle around the tracks at the start of the fight and bomb the slots furthest away first. The boss's attacks get more frequent as its health depletes and the Inglets spawn more frequently, so you want the final slots to be as close to the initial Spider Ball track as possible.
    Alpha Blogg: Weak to the Dark Beam like all Aether enemies, and especially the Darkburst if you have it. Can be baited into attacking by shooting charged Power Beam shots at it while it swims around, as long as they connect with its body.
    Dark Samus: Weak to the Dark Beam. When she deflects your missiles, or after ramming you with her shield, there is a window of vulnerability you can exploit for easy damage. When she levitates, charge a Dark Beam shot and hit her as she lands, before she breaks your lock by dashing away; this also works when she's recovering from her Phazon-powered dive, or spectrum shifting in the second fight.
    Boost Guardian: Empty all your Light Beam ammo into this guy and end the fight as fast as possible. Stay in Morph Ball when it's boosting and hug the walls as much as possible. The pillars drop energy, as will the Inglets, so keep that in mind; destroying the pillars is semi-scripted, based on how many times the boss has boosted in a particular cycle, and it doesn't tend to hit the Inglets by accident so you may have to bomb them yourself. As soon as the boss enters puddle form, bomb it as much as possible to have it un-puddle quickly.

    in terms of design, I think the alpha blogg is basically perfect for an underwater boss. an enormous deep water creature (who was also initially teased being visible through the chamber's walls) does a great job of evoking a real sense of innate dread and terror.

    I really gotta defend Dark Samus 3 from the perspective of feeling like it's not really *meant* to be an epic showdown so much as it is meant to be frantic and honestly kind of scary. With the other DS fights you two felt like equals, but when you turn around and see Dark Samus standing between you and escape, realizing who she is and how you have no choice but to fight despite being so in over your head, that _really_ hits hard to me.
    I think that's why the music remains the escape theme, because Samus is fighting for her life here. It's the moment you realize that Dark Samus isn't your equal, she's a monstrosity.

  • @aztumtheknightofwumbo7060

    Gonna make my list plain and simple and include some honorable and not so honorable mentions as well:
    16. Spider Ball Guardian: Annoying little bugger that's more about completing a harsh puzzle than actually fighting it. I played the GC version so yeah.
    15. Boost Guardian: He beat my a$$ on more than one attempt and I honestly feel like his fight is no fun whatsoever.
    14. Caretaker Class Drone: Yeah I included it in my list since there is only ONE of it in the whole game that you fight. The fact the fight takes place on the Spider Ball and requires use of the Boost Ball is interesting to say the least. Other than that, it's just a mini boss with no health bar.
    13. Alpha Blogg: The only Alpha predator in the game the Ing never possessed, and is the only boss in the game where you get the item before the boss. Kinda scares me even to this day, otherwise meh fight.
    12. Power Bomb Guardian: The only boss in the game that requires the use of an item the player has only RECENTLY recovered from the Ing (Spider Ball) in order to fight. Otherwise, just annoying.
    11. Dark Missile Trooper: If I recall, the only optional boss in the game, and the easiest one at that. Just a minor challenge that rewards the player a Missile Expansion for their troubles.
    10. Dark Samus 3: Worst Final Boss in Prime History. Could've made the fight a lot better but instead, we got a game of catch and release.
    9. Dark Alpha Splinter: Fairly challenging for a first boss, but it's normal non-possessed form was more challenging than it's Darkling form.
    8. Bomb Guardian: A meh fight. Enough said.
    7. Grapple Guardian: I kinda like this fight. It felt like you were dealing with a genuine apex predator and a dangerous threat more than any other Minor Boss.
    6. Amorbis: A very fun fight with a satisfying reward at the end. Amorbis takes the large scale fight motif up to 11. Otherwise somewhat tedious.
    5. Chykka: Both forms of this monster were fun to fight against. The first one obviously felt slow on purpose, but the second fight really makes the fight feel intense, that if you don't stop this creature now, what else might happen. Enjoyable nod at the end where the end fight scan confirms it's death.
    4. Dark Samus 1: The build-up, the standoff, the fast-paced action, all of it screams epic. The only downside is the second half of the fight where she spams meteor striking you a lot.
    3. Dark Samus 2: We knew she came back after that first fight, we knew we were gonna have to fight her again, and we knew she would be much tougher the second time around, and we weren't disappointed. Second Best Dark Samus behind the 3rd games battle.
    2. Quadraxis: A complete boss battle. Hints of it's appearance are reflected through body parts scattered in Sanctuary Fortress. The fact you must slowly destroy the body completely, first the legs, then the communications, then the head, everything about it was satisfying. And the reward was the cherry on top. Annihilator Beam ftw.
    1. Emperor Ing: What can I say? It's got everything I wanted in a boss battle. An intense challenge, a climactic buildup. The phases, and the music were all perfection. The only downside is that it isn't the Final Boss.
    Honorable Mentions:
    IngSmashers/Dark IngSmashers: A beautifully executed spiritual successor to the Elite Pirates of the first game. Though it kinda stinks that they become common in the SF after some visits.
    Less Than Honorable Mentions:
    Pirate Commandos: The normal counterpart was OK. They seldom appeared in-game. And the few times you do fight them, the Dark Beam just trivializes them.
    Dark Pirate Commandos: The less than successful successors to the Chozo Ghosts of Prime 1, the Dark Pirate Commandos are annoying af, but can actually be really easy to beat. The Dark Beam actually works on them, thus turning what would be a dangerous encounter into a total joke.
    That's all for my list.

    I don't know if Echoes was considered the worst, I generally heard that 3 was the worst, mostly due to motion controls and a lack of difficulty as a result of Nintendo attempting to appeal to the casual audience. Dark Samus 3 should have come before Emperor Ing. The whole conflict of the game was the Ing's genocide against the Luminoth, and having Emperor Ing play second fiddle to Dark Samus makes the terrific battle against him feel unimportant. Another note to final dark Samus fight in MP2. The boss is damn near impossible on hypermode due to dark Samus health pool being doubled while the timer remains the same. Absorbing her shots is buggy and does very little damage. Her phazon missiles have increased tracking on hypermode making them almost impossible to dodge. And the timer is just way too short.

    who is saying that??
    i also agree: MP2 is best of trilogy, then MP, and MP3 was not good

      I noticed a lot of people gripe about the dark world and things about how it's structured (doors that are present in the light world being blocked off in unpredictable ways, etc) making exploration worse. I've also seen criticism of the boss fights since most are just buffed enemies or something. I don't really mind these things much but the critics are out there. I also like prime 3 a lot other than the early game stretch. Glad you agreed with my list and enjoyed the video too!-Alex

      Biggest issue with Prime 2 is pacing, and the dark world is a part of it, but not the whole issue.
      There is way too much filler in MP2 compared to MP1 during which time you are not making any progress in terms of gameplay elements and world exploration. There are 4 fetch quests for temple keys which drag the game to a screeching halt, there are the colored translations to unlock arbitrary locked doors that have no reason to be there impending progress in the first place. Mandatory revisiting of the central hub with a cutscene after beating each temple. Etc etc.
      I absolutely love MP2, my second favorite in the trilogy and one of the best games on the gamecube. But the sense of progression and exploration between 1 and 2 is not even comparable. In MP1, you are constantly unlocking new mechanics and abilities from beginning to end without pause, you have access to nearly every area of the game very early on, with interconnectivity that has you continuously revisiting and expanding your map across the entire planet/region, unlike in MP2 where you access every area in a relatively linear and sequential fashion, with areas locked off and inaccessible in very arbitrary or artificial ways until you are “meant” to progress there when the story allows it.
      This is where the issues with the dark world become apparent, as the dark world is almost the polar opposite of a well-designed Metroid location - until the end of the game, the areas are completely isolated, bland blue and purple rooms and corridors with no interconnectivity and a very repetitive and time-wasting traversal mechanic.
      A lot of MP2 feels like time-wasting, actually. The dark pirates that start showing up in nearly every chamber halfway through the game, spend more time invisible and invulnerable than they do attacking you, AND lock the doors every single time until you kill then or outlast them.
      MP2 has probably the best and most diverse gameplay in the franchise and I love it, but it’s WAY harder to return to on subsequent playthroughs because of the inconsistent pacing and progression.

    For me, the Alpha Blogg is just boring. Its too easy once you figure out the hitbox thing. It quickly becomes a matter of how fast you can shove super missiles into it's mouth.
    Also, i HATE the boost guardian. The absence of light crystals is painful enough, but the boss zooming around at the speed of light on top of that is just...WHY???
    Also also, if i remember correctly....doesnt the Dark Missile Trooper get one-shot by a super missile?? I can't remember. Im also pretty sure it's an optional boss, so that just proves how obsolete it is.

    Spider Guardian was my least favorite boss in the GCN version. Trying to make those jumps with the bombs was so infuriating. In the trilogy version he's a no issue, tho the last section can still be annoying.

    my personal opinion is that all the bosses suck in general except dark samus and boost ball guardian. mostly because i'm stupid and can't figure out what to do even after reading the scan
    but seriously how are you supposed to figure out you need to grapple behind chykka. i just thought the game was broken because there is no signal that you need to shoot at chykka from behind, other than the grapples being there. and how are you supposed to know to use the spider ball on ing emperor phase 2, it doesn't look like a spider ball surface i just shot the holes with all my weapons and using the power bomb on the ground near the holes until i died, then i looked up how i was supposed to beat the boss. honestly the only bosses where i truly felt accomplished beating them was the boost ball guardian and the dark samus bosses. i don't have really have a problem with the rest of the game but the bosses really piss me off.

      The shield is mostly up in the second half of those fights and that too for just 5 seconds. You literally just have to get good, those fights are a skill test (in terms of speed, not difficulty). I find those fights really fun

    • @imafreakinninja12
      @imafreakinninja12 Před rokem

      @@ExtremeAce No, she can constantly spam her shield, and the Metroid Prime games hardly take skill. You would have to be an idiot to die in one of those games. The game that's the closest to requiring skill would be the third one, and even that one is easy.

    I'm going to be honest, I don't get why people enjoy the Emperor Ing bossfight. It's fucking miserable. Sure, the first two phases work fine enough, but the third phase is filled with practically unavoidable attacks, the hitboxes are borderline impossible to hit due to how much he swings around and bounces, and it's just plain fucking annoying.

    • @legrandliseurtri7495
      @legrandliseurtri7495 Před rokem +1

      His attacks are easily avoidable. I wouldn't be surprised if someone made a no-damage third phase of emperor ing at some point. Hitboxes kind of suck, but at least it's not as bad as alpha blogg.

    Spider Guardian in Trilogy? Pretty decent and clever boss, especially with Springball a built-in feature
    Spide Guardian in the original Gamecube release? **AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA** Fuck the physics makes this boss *suuuuuckkkkkk* since trying to rely solely on bomb jumps makes this so much more tedious and frustrating. It’s the only Metroid boss (including Dread) that actively makes me curse and want to eat my own skin while fighting it, even after years of owning the GC release.
    Homies playing a potential HD remaster with swanky new controls and Springball will never know the struggle… ;3;

      Are you kidding? The Trilogy version ruined the Spider Guardian. The addition of the spring ball trivializes the entire fight.
