Learn how to create a scratchboard etching. Scratchboard is an art-making process in which ink is removed from the surface using sharp tools, revealing white underneath. This strikes me as very similar to how I was taught to use charcoal, by focusing on the eraser to produce the image from a dark page.

A lot of my favorite natural history illustrations are etchings. Sure, a different type of etching, but this approach looks like a fun way to imitate the old style. Not to mention that scratching away something is always fun.

I have been getting acclimated to using more tools. I think I might be doing something wrong with the fiber brush because now it's a bit too soft. 🤔

I have never even heard of scratchboard... this is so cool! I love to use pen & ink alot... will this do well with charcoal?
