Streapy Rios New Times 78, early 1930s

  • A scarce French 78 rpm label form the early 1930s. I only have two examples. They were brought back from Paris by a dear friend of mine, long dead. He found them when he attended a conference in Paris, many years ago. It must have been 'unsold stock', as there were several copies of each of 2 discs. Although the sound is very poor, the enthusiasm associated with a 'private record label' is well to the fore!

    Lots of life to this one and enjoyable despite the distortion. Thanks for posting 😀 👍

      Yes - the distortion is pretty bad. In fact, it's awful! But there were these guys, Streapy & Rios, that were determined to have their own record label! I must put up the other one my friend brought back from Paris, 30 yeras ago... Cheers, Norman.

      Thanks for writing! Yes - there's a couple more obscurities coming up.... Fetherflex, plus two fairly scarce 1929 sides by classical pianist Miklos Schwalb.... Akll the best for now, Norman.

      Many thanks! You know, I have played records that are really great, & thought it would be great if it was up on CZcams. But I check it out first, to avoid needless duplication... & you know what? Nearly everything is up there already! Still, we'll keep on trying. Cheers, Norman.

    I adore this Record for what it is! SUPER STAR with a tad of imperfection, Like a FUN Gray Gull recording here in the U.S.A! Just when You think the Record is ending, More ear candy pops up, THANK You LARGE For posting this Beauty!

    • @bixanorak
      @bixanorak  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes indeed - there is certanly an affinity between this & the Grey Gull/Radiex/Madison/Van Dyke group of 78s. 'In-your-face' audio - wham! There it was. I think, even, that they had an AGC/AVC circuit in-line. AUTOMATIC GAIN (VOLUME) CONTROL, was developed in the U.S., around 1925, for radio receivers, but seems to have been used by Grey Gull to assure top 'frontal volume' throughout the record. It resulted in a rather 'blatant' sound, but one of generally high modulation level throughout the disc. It suited well the people that bought these 'cheap & cheerful' 78s. Cheers, Norman.

      Thanks! Well - you know I rather like early electrical pick-ups? Am planning a huge series of those that were marketed in the UK from 1925 onwards - a web-page, with dated images, & hopefully a series of videos in which many of them actually play music of their own era. I'll do my best on that series. Cheers, Norman.
