Pěnice černohlavá (Sylvia atricapilla, lidově „černohlávek“) je malý zpěvný pták z čeledi pěnicovitých.
Popis
Délka těla: 13,5-15 cm
Rozpětí křídel: 20-23 cm
Hmotnost: 14-20 g
Jedna z větších pěnic. Snadno se pozná podle typické čepičky na hlavě, sahající k hornímu okraji oka.
Na ocase nemá v žádném šatu bílou barvu. Nohy i zobák jsou šedé.
Dospělý samec má čepičku černou (od prvního přepeření do konce zimy hnědou, černou nebo černohnědou); svrchu je popelavě šedý a zespodu olivově šedý.
Samice má čepičku rezavohnědou. Svrchu je tmavěji šedohnědá, na spodu světlejší, ale celkově oproti samci s hnědým nádechem.
Mladí ptáci mají čepičku zbarvenou jako samice.
Hlas
Vábí tvrdým mlaskavým „tek“, přednášeným samostatně nebo v řadě. V čistém flétnovém zpěvu dokáže napodobit hlasy jiných ptáků.
Rozšíření
Celá Evropa kromě nejsevernější části.
Západní Sibiř a severozápadní Afrika.
Na západě a jihu Evropy je stálá, ostatní populace přezimují ve Středomoří, rovníkové Africe a část v Británii.
Preferuje listnaté a smíšené lesy, ale žije i v lesích jehličnatých, a to jak v ekotonu, tak uvnitř lesů. Obývá též zarostlé parky a zahrady.
Život
Hnízdí jednotlivě, teritoriálně a monogamně, vzácně se objevuje bigamie a účasti cizího samce na péči o mláďata.
Na hnízdišti se jako první objevuje samec, který hned zabírá teritorium a označuje ho zpěvem a staví několik jednoduchých hnízd, která představuje samici. Ta si buď jedno z nich vybere, nebo postaví nové.
Hnízdí obvykle 1× ročně od května do července. Stavebním materiálem je tráva a různé byliny, kořínky a žíně.
Snůška čítá 2-7 bílých, nažloutlých, nahnědlých nebo načervenalých, hnědě skvrnitých vajec, na kterých sedí po dobu 11-12 dnů oba ptáci.
Mláďata jsou krmena oběma rodiči a hnízdo opouštějí ve stáří 11-14 dnů. Pohlavní dospělosti dosahují ve 2. kalendářním roce.
Potrava
Hlavně hmyz a jiní bezobratlí, na konci léta a na podzim také bobule a dužnaté plody.
Dokáže trusem naset na větve stovky semínek jmelí blízko sebe.
Mláďata jsou krmena hmyzem a později i dužnatými plody.

The Eurasian blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) usually known simply as the blackcap, is a common and widespread typical warbler.
Description
Length: cca 13 cm (5.1 in)
Wing length: 7-8 cm (2.8-3.1 in)
Weight: 16-31 g (0.56-1.1 oz)
The adult male has olive-grey upperparts, other than a paler grey nape and a neat black cap on the head. The underparts are light grey, becoming silvery white on the chin, throat and upper breast. The tail is dark grey, with an olive tint to the outer edge of each feather. The bill and long legs are grey, and the iris is reddish brown.
The female resembles the male, but has a reddish-brown cap and a slightly browner tone to the grey of the upperparts.
Juveniles are similar to the female, but their upperparts have a slight rufous tinge, and the breast and flanks have a more olive tone; young males have a darker brown cap than their female counterparts.
Voice
The male's song is a rich musical warbling, often ending in a loud high-pitched crescendo, which is given in bursts of up to 30 seconds.
The song is repeated for about 2,5 minutes, with a short pause before each repetition.
In some geographically isolated areas a simplified fluting song occurs.
It occasionally mimics the song of other birds.
The main call is a hard tac-tac, like stones knocking together, and other vocalisations include a squeaking sweet alarm, and a low-pitched trill.
Distribution and habitat
It breeds in much of Europe, western Asia and northwestern Africa.
It is a partial migrant; birds from the colder areas of its range winter in northwestern Europe, around the Mediterranean and in tropical Africa. Some German birds spend winter in Great Britain and Ireland.
Habitat
The main breeding habitat is mature deciduous woodland, with good scrub cover below the trees. Other habitats, such as parks, large gardens and overgrown hedges, are also sometimes used.
Behaviour
The male holds a territory when breeding. He attracts a female and estabilish territorial boundaries by loud singing.
He also builds one or more simple nests. The final nest, which may be built from scratch, is a neat cup, built low in brambles or scrub, and the clutch is typically 4-6 mainly buff eggs, which hatch in about 11 days.
The chicks fledge in 11-12 days, but are cared for by both adults for some time after leaving the nest.
Feeding
Mainly insects and fruit. Wide range of invertebrate prey, and flies, beetles and caterpillars. Small snails are swallowed whole (source of calcium).
