The original quote is "Right or wrong, the customer is always right in matters of taste". The quote was made by store owner Harry Gordon Selfridge; nicknamed 'The Earl of Oxford Street' in London 1909.
I thought it was "The customer is always right, in matters of Style & Taste".
Both mean the same thing really, the phrase was intended for salesmen who were told not to judge the customer if they wanted to buy a "hideous sweater" or "put ketchup on a steak" as business is business.
@@samsby14 True, but sadly customers tend to only remember the portion that "The Customer is always Right" and forget the rest of the phrase and throw hissy strops when they don't get their way
@@samsby14 True but sadly all too many only remember the first part of the saying.
You're right that Brits internalize a lot...and it's messy when we snap.
If you look up 'The Frost Report - Class Sketch', your wish will be granted in a way as it is a sketch starring the Two Ronnies AND John Cleese and is another revered British comedy sketch!
The list of writers included "Gerald Wiley"
who was in fact Ronnie Barker.
He submitted the work under a pseudonym
so it didn't get preferential treatment.
Welcome back boys🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 God that intro is instant nostalgia for me. Takes me back to childhood Saturday evenings laughing with the family round the TV 😊
Their opening theme music, by the legendary and seemingly everywhere Ronnie Hazlehurst, has the distinction of being instantly recognisable, indelibly memorable, and completely without any identifiable tune. It's a work of art.
I played that to my lodger a few weeks ago who'd never seen it and he was wetting himself laughing
You will have to do their Country Music Sketch, Slim Pikman and Polly Parton.
One of the best skits by the Two Ronnies is the one called Encyclopedia Salesman.
I had a boat customer wanting engine service parts. He asked for belts, so I went and looked up his correct belts and walked all the way back with them. Then he asked for the oil filter, looked that up and walked all the way back. This happened 12 times off his shopping-list. He had the WHOLE list, with part numbers, in his hand. Could have throttled him for wasting an hour of my time.
You know when these shows were screened on a Saturday night in the 1970s, video recorders were almost non-existent so people stayed in until 9pm so as not to miss shows like the Two Ronnies. Once the show was over, the pubs became full of people who had stayed in. That was the pulling power of quality comedy. Thanks for your reactions.
The customer is always right,in matters of taste....i belive is the full quote.Nice reaction video again guys.Keep it up.
This reminds me of back in the 1980's when my Dad used to go to a little shop near us every Sunday morning to get his sweets before church.
One particular Sunday morning he went to the shop to get a quarter of either 'Cough Candi' or 'Aniseed Twist' and the lady behind the counter used to have very shaky hands. She started pouring the sweets into the bowl on the scales and she spilt loads of them all over the floor, anyway they had a Black Labrador dog that used to scoot along the floor on it's arse, and Dad happened to see it just as she picked the sweets up and put them in the bag.
He told her in no uncertain terms that she could keep her sweets and he never went back there again.
Try the 2Rs Ju Jitsu, Russian State Choir and Star Trek skits! They ARE hilarious and not many channels have reacted to them! Should pay dividends!
The interesting thing is that they did not consider themselves a "Comedy Duo" - just 2 people that starred on the same show. They refused any request to tour together as a comedy act and very rarely interviewed together. This was even though they were good friends
I meet Ronnie Corbett, by accident, in Edinburgh. I was inside a telephone box he needed to use. His wife was so much taller than him. True Fact! Can I humbly recommend their sketch series, The Worm Has Turned? 1970's, Women rule the world in black leather and men are wearing dresses and doing housework.TUT. Like you've got nothing else ever asked for :o)
Piggy malone too
Unplug & unravel a few liquorice!
These are always funny, they stand the test of time.
Thanks as always guys!
The 2 Ronnie's and John Cleese did a sketch together called The Class Sketch from the Frost Report
This is a great sketch. The reverse of the Candles Sketch. Love Ronnie B xx
Check Ricky Gervais and Extras with Ronnie Corbett doing cocane , brilliant 😂😂
As a Brit, I noticed that Comedy ramps up your stress levels, like Fawlty Towers and and this. Then you get to laugh at the end as if your Sanity has been restored.Almost Shakesperean.
Not the Waldorf Salad episode!
I can't watch it!!!
One of my early service industry jobs was in a hotel. After I had been hired, I was taught "The customer isn't always right, you just have to make them think they are".
It works well most of the time. Defusing by agreement takes the wind from their sails and often deescalates a situation quicker.
However what you say about them after they leave is another matter.
Not seen this one before.....hilarious!
Theme tunes were pretty big on shows back then. And if you're of an age you can recognize themes to comedy shows almost instantly. At least in Britain. They were often the biggest programmes on television. Admittedly, with three channels (4 by 1982 - the first show on Channel 4 was actually 'Countdown', from which ''8 out of 10 cats does Countdown' was derived) you could argue the competition was limited. In fact it made them focus much more on content because the potential viewership was much bigger for each channel. If you were getting audiences of 15 to 20 million in a country with a population of 50 to 60 million, that wasn't a bad percentage.
You need to watch the ‘crossed lines’ sketch. Hilarious! They were really ahead of the times. Shows the reality of how we start with good intentions in hospitality to a extreme outcome of how we can lose our shit or what we would actually want to do! (I worked in hospitality for 20 years! 😂)
Excellent reaction, as ever, guys. Ronnie Corbett there getting his own back on Ronnie Barker for his visit to the hardware shop - (four candles!) ;-)
The Two Ronnies Encyclopedia sketch is truly brilliant.
If ever you need a pick me up after a tiring day….just watch one of these sketches….. your guaranteed a laugh…. Absolute geniuses…..
You'd love Porridge
& rising damp
Me to i am in my 60 but remember watching it with my mum and dad it was so funny at the time still is
Hey guys the two Ronnie's did some very funny parodies of America country & western music i thought you might appreciate it.
Hey ! You mention John Cleese and the Two Ronnies … They done a sketch together in the late 60’s. You should check it out as it summed up British hierarchy at the time
!
Hi Guys. Glad to see you back on The Two Ronnie's. You should check out their Aldershot Brass Band skit to really see them at their best
It takes a few months for the laughter strains to heal. Unless you were brought up with the Ronnies. Then you can manage to recover in a week.
Porridge was an amazing show. When will you react to it.
Amen.
A great comedy duo from the 70s 80s 😂. Another even better comedy duo is Steptoe & Son😂😂
The Ronnies and Cleese used to work together on "That was the week that was" but I'm sure you knew that.
Great reaction 😂I luv it!
You should watch the comedy bit with the two Ronnie's and John cleese about the class system from the 1960's it's brilliant. I think it was from the frost report, very well written and brilliantly done by all. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The Two Ronnies mini series, Phantom Rasberry, Worm That Turned and Piggy Malone

Check out Morecambe and Wise another British comedy duo. When I worked in shop after I left school The Two Ronnies were performing in the theatre next door they came into the shop and got their autographs
If you’re looking for a next Two Ronnies sketch, try Round of Drinks, Name Guessing Game or Racing Duck if you’ve not done them before
Only the orange ones? It reminds me of the comedy series "Outnumbered" in which the girl (aged about 7) said that she didn't want to eat salmon because it's orange. "I don't like food which is orange. Except oranges, because they admit that they're orange."
You should check out their Musical numbers
And yes us Brits are polite..........until we are not 😆
Please check out The Plank 1967,
Eric Sykes at his best, he also appeared in Harry Potter lV at the very beginning of the movie 🎬.
You won't be disappointed 😂😂😂❤

Love that one, our reaction to that is on the end-screen of this vid
Spencer !
Q:- Have you been on a diet?
You look like you've lost some weight.🤔
Who is Ronnie Baker?! BTW, shame you can't get hold of the Two Ronnie's 'opticians' sketch !!
was that the prequel to falling down!!!
Liquorice allsorts are all the same flavour. It's just the colour...
Gob is slang for mouth and gob stoppers were very hard boiled sweets which took ages to suck and suck and suck. They very gradually changed colour as you sucked them. As a small child sometimes we took them out of our mouths and passed them to a friend to see if they wanted to finish off sucking them….disgusting!!!
ETS21 so know minstrels 1970 ad if want to know not melt in hand
