I love that you can jump over Aliens, why didn't they think to do that in the movies geez!
I always hated the flame throwers as their primary weapon in the movies. I mean shit couldn't they have evolved something a little more heavy to fight such a deadly beast?
RPG exploration syndrome: you can only jump on certain occasions.
justin ellis 😎
justin ellis crowbar ?
But xenomorphs are weak to fire? Heavily weak to fire, unless you meant incendiary rounds? I guess they have androids so maybe some drones or a microwave canon? Idk I'm just spit balling
This game blew my mind back in the day. It seemed almost photorealistic at the time. And it did realistic weapons in a way no game I'd ever seen had.
Alien 3 is the BEST! it's one of my favorite SNES games of all time. I'm so glad that game appeared in Nintendo Power issue 100 as one of the 100 best games of all time, and in the 100th spot.
My favorite SNES games that would be considered a hidden gem or underrated.
The fact that you brought up Charles Mingus as a badass now makes you my hero. Also I love this game.
(gets Pithecanthropus Erectus stuck in head for the next week)
I absolutely agree
Yeah, I really didn't expect that hahha
Mingus was the man 👍🏻
Out of left field, somewhat obscure references like Charles Nelson Reilly are a huge reason why I love this channel.
Don’t think so dude.
The problem is that even with the map you still get lost in every single level and the enemies respawn constantly (and I mean constantly) while you're trying to figure it out, so you run out of ammo and die, and have to go all the way back to the start of the level. It gets old fast.
It would have been really good if you could read the room names on the doors. Or if they just let you do all the missions at once so you don't have to keep going back to the terminal.
I just wanted to say that i love your pic (y)
@@juanortiz9123 thank you
I’m with you

I didn't know there is an Alien 3 game that isn't bad, since I grew up with the bad NES game. By the way, there is hack for Alien 3 for SNES which adds an option for Super Metroid-like controls (since Metroid is inspired by the Alien movies though), adds SRAM saving (but only two saves per level), and bug and graphical fixes. That hack made me play the game even more, so try it out.
Whoa I gotta check this out!!
Charles S Dutton will always be known as Roc Emerson from Roc to me. By far his most memorable role.
Yeah I was bummed he didn't say Roc that was awesome!
I’m surprised you didn’t know that Charles Nelson Reilly played the alien.
Hah!
And Charlton Heston was the Nostromo.
I always wondered why the alien was wearing a neckerchief
SNES drunk mst3k joke watch out for snakes 😂
LJN wasn't total garbage on SNES. Spider Man & Venom : Maximum Carnage was another good one. That being said I never would have guessed this was a good game.

I loved the LJN WWF games on the snes, specifically Royal Rumble and Raw. Those were not nearly as bad as so many seem to claim.
@@judah_macabe Yeah I had a lot of fun with those ones too. Mostly WWF Raw. I remember how cool it was when I found out the game had special moves. Last time I played them I found them a little clunky, but perfectly acceptable for the time.
@@judah_macabe A friend and I killed entire afternoons with those two games back in the day. The Million Dollar Man's theme from Royal Rumble still makes me laugh.
SO GLAD you took on this game!
Ive missed it so much and have recently been looking to reget it! Glad to know Im not alone apreciating it! TY!
"Game over man!" Cant believe u forgot that!
To be fair, that wasn't from Alien 3.
When i rebought my snes a few years ago this was one of the first games i bought as i owned it back in the day!
You know I look at my subscription list and I'm like "what the hell is SNES Drunk doing posting a video on a Monday?" It wasn't until I realized that today actually is Tuesday. That's how it goes when you have holidays on a Monday, lol. 😂☺️
I actually love the movie Alien 3. It seems from the background on it that it isn't the movie anyone involved actually wanted to make, and it might well have been way better if it was, but the movie we got still has a lot of awesome in it.
I agree, not my favorite by any means but still pretty great.
You knocked this episode out of the park my friend... Flipping A... Excellent work. The music, mood and atmosphere in this game is amazing. The game captures the feeling of Alien even though the music does at times get repeatitive. Also, you have to love that beautiful use of Mode 7. Mahalo brother! Come to Hawaii anytime on me🤙
Of all the famous people named Charles, you pull Mingus and Nelson Reilly... that's fantastic.
0:30 - No mention of Charles Bronson when talking about bad dudes?!
No. Please stop.
exactly what i was thinking
Charles Bronson is a Legend, his career ended way too soon. With not enough movies for the world to enjoy!
Corn Pop was a bad man and he ran with a bunch of bad dudes.
I remember playing Aliens 3 back in the early 90's and I remember having a blast playing it from start to finish
Been watching your stuff for a while and I figured I should let you know I love your channel. Always quality!
I love this game. It was maybe the 4th or 5th SNES game I ever got. Beautiful graphics and sound. It was also at spot 100 on Nintendo Power's 100 Best games of all time list in their 100th issue.
the pixel art looks like a modern indie game
Loved this game
Just found the channel through suggestions and instantly subscribed. Good work!
Thanks Mark, lots more to come
Thank you for the video, I'll be sure to add this to my list of games to play. Have a blessed day dude
First game magazine I ever got was a Gamepro with the Alien 3 games as the cover story. Good times.
Love video game magazines. Too expensive now, especially Retro Gamer from the UK.
One of my favorite SNES games so many good memories with this one. I was hoping the SNES classic included it. I remember playing this as a rental but could never beat it
That thing on the cover very much looks like a green Gyigas (Earthbound) due to the way it is twisted 😂
What's really eerie is that I was just talking about Charles Nelson Reilly yesterday..... What are the odds. Great video though!!! Now I want to go watch Alien 3.
I'm a professional musician and I think your intros are f&%king DOPE BRO!!! So FUN and awesome! I don't know if you were just like in choir in high school or are just having fun but it's fire every time! Your personality shines through and I absolutely love it!! Midwest love to you bro!!
Can we talk about the length of that SNES Drunk? Because it's just perfect. So precise. So perfect.
One of your best vids my friend..iv been a sub for years now and this is one of my favorites..plus one of my all time favorite snes gems. Good call on this one 👌
I never knew about this entry! Thanks for this review Drunk! This game looks so cool!
You have helped me decide what games I want to buy for SNES. Thanks so much!
Thanks a lot Drunk. Keeping me sane during these trying times.
The Charles Nelson Reilly references got me and I love it. 😂
This and Street Fighter 2 were my first SNES games. This game was is challenging, but I did enjoy playing it back in the day.
Just downloaded SNES Alien 3 to my SNES classic and it is just as wonderful as I remember it back when I was 14.
(Sometimes it’s good to feel old)
This game’s tone overall is a brilliant tribute to the aesthetic of the source material.
And I like dark.
It’s a winner y’all. 👏
Oh and yeah, much love and respect to SNESDRUNK!
I recently moved to Albuquerque from California. Been watching the channel for a few years now.
Always so fun!🤘
I think Dance is more known for Game of Thrones. I think CNR would just smoke his pipe and yell for Brett all movie
@J Jimenez he was Tywin Lannister
Great videos mate! More games to add to my collection 😁
Iv only played the Mega drive version. This looks a lot better.
Yup, it is. The weapon system is better and there's lots more to do. Mostly the Megadrive version consists of just learning the optimal route through the level to get all the hostages before the timer runs out; in this one you get to make actual decisions about which missions to do and in what order.
I mean, the odd checkpoint wouldn't have hurt though...
They're both completely different flavors. I'd say neither is objectively better. They're different games.
It is not, genesis version is way better.
Watch out you'll piss off the genesis fans!
^^Oops spoke too soon!^^
The Genesis/MegaDrive version is a strictly a trial and error/memory test. It's frustrating and not very good. The snes version is a proper action/adventure game.
I consider this to be one of the first "survival horror" games.
Think about it,resource menagement is a must, can't really go guns blazing, great horror atmosphere.
I remember renting that game back then and that I managed to finish it (probably after a couples of rental, but I don't remember that). I liked that game a lot so a few years ago I decided to buy it and add it to my collection. Then I decided to replay it and holy crap is it hard! Definitely not a pick up game that you can enjoy and progress/finish in a short while, you need to be dedicated, take your time, study the map, etc! It's super fun though and play well still, and I love the graphics and music! One day I'll sit down and beat it again!
Man, this review is actually pretty helpful. I know I've passed over playing Alien 3 for SNES multiple times (as a kid picking a game to rent at Blockbuster, as an adult looking at a list of games to try any way I can when bored) and that's mostly because it's a licensed game of a decent, but definitely Charles-deficient movie. Now I know it's at least sorta interesting to play sometime.
"a rare case where the game is actually better than the movie"
See also: Alien Resurrection for PS1 👍
(Although over the years I'm warming to the idea the movie Alien Resurrection was an act of trolling by the film makers at the expense of the studio; sort of getting even for all the meddling that hobbled the Alien³ film... 🤔😏)
Alien Resurrection is pretty great actually. It's just falls into the Trash genre of movies.
Everything is better than that movie.
@@MrBl3ki it *is* well crafted trash, can't take that away from it; actual work was being done on those sets... 😏
Hey lovers already play it and finished it great Game
also check out The Mummy Demastered by Wayforward if you're into games that are better than the movie they are licensed for.
Great look at one of the better licensed title on the SNES, only rented this one growing up but I did have the Gameboy version and that was a trip. Got it as a birthday present from Grandma, who knew I loved gaming and action/horror movies, and it took me months to figure out the basics. Once I started to think of it as more a point and click adventure than a straight up action game it became pretty solid.
Charles Dance is Lord Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones! He was great in that.
--->>> I was waiting for the Game Over screeen at the end of the video 😄
Interesting... when you mentioned Charles S. Dutton in the beginning, I immediately thought 'Roc'. When you mentioned Charles Dance, I immediately thought, 'Tywin Lannister'.
Yeah! And of course "Brother Numsi" ;)
I always enjoyed this game! One of my favs back in the day!
Fair review! I think I liked this game somewhat more than you did, but close enough. I always felt like playing this game was more like playing Aliens than Alien 3. I never had a problem with navigation, and actually really enjoyed using the computer terminals to plan out a route and get to know the base better and better. The lack of infinite ammo was fine with me, as it forced me to have some strategy and added some urgency and care to how I managed the situation.
This is my first time on this channel, and hearing Charles Nelson Reilly made me feel scrumtrillescent! I look forward to other obscure pop culture references!
This video review was really good!
I've been waiting for you to review this thanks!
Hey SNES Drunk, I've been wondering what capture card you use to record directly from the SNES? Thanks, love the videos!
Ah that brings me happiness. I had a lot of fun with this one as a kid. The criticisms are spot on but so is the praise (I can still remember “squirrel” is a password lol). I’ve been waiting for a video to give this one some love and bless you for making it!
Just revisited this one. Hadn't played it in probably 15 years. Used to play it as a kid with my brother. I had a blast. It's not perfect, but it's fun, there's enough variety to keep it from getting boring. I enjoyed mapping each stage (I like that sort of thing, I have hand drawn maps for Metroid, Zelda 2, Dragon Warrior, Parasite Eve, and some others). Anyway, music is great, sound effects are solid. It's difficult, but not impossible. Some BS play control issues, but not critical ones. I like it. Ran it through on Normal to do mapping. Then played through on Hard. The Flame Thrower, and having the best fuel, is one of my favorite aspects of the later stages. Finding those reloads is essential.
I loved this game as a kid for it’s graphics, atmosphere and gameplay. It can be a bit of a slog but man does it look great. The detail is amazing, even if the gameplay gets a bit repetitive. The music helps create a wonderfully rainy day mood.
I remember the password "overgame" would show you the ending
Yes!!! I put that in before beating the game and remember thinking “oh maybe I have to beat the game for real to play the level where I fight the final boss”.
Sadly that was not the case :(
☺️thank god
@@StarRightStarTight Way to break one million hearts across the planet
There is a really cool improvement patch called assembly cut which adds lots of new features
Good review I remember borrowing this from my friend
I Want to tell you this. Me and my SO have watch all of your videos and we love your channel. We are retro gamers like you and even one of your videos sparked an important conversation about alcoholism.
Hang in there Diego, best of luck to you
Rented this one several times back then! Thanks for the review
The music in this game is very underrated.
Yes, I loved it! Also liked the route planning & resource management aspects, though I imagine those aren't everyone's cup of tea.
This game probably had my favourite 'game over' screen ever too.
Another spot on review. I really enjoyed this title on SNES and sank a lot of hours into it!
I remember renting this as a kid and having a lot of fun with it. It was right along with Judge Dredd as one of those actually decent games based on a movie license that are good for a rental or two and killing a weekend.
The Mega Drive version looked the part but Christ that time limit one life thing ballsed it right up.
Uploaded on my birthday. Thanks SNESDrunk. :D
Charles Nelson Riley, the ultimate badass! Thanks for educating the children as I assume about 3 of your 158 thousand subscribers know of this icon.
I remembered on Nintendo power’s 100th issue where they had count down of the 100 greatest games of all time (while on only Nintendo systems Ofcourse) and this game came at number 100. Which caught my attention seeing that a movie based game was on it, I had to try it.Glad I did 😊
SNES Drunk and John Riggs both praised True Lies in the past few days. Now I've gotta check out that game too!
Thumbs Up for the Charles Nelson Riley reference. Note to game makers: give us a Lidsville game. Or anything set in the Sid and Marty Krofft universe.
Pity you didn't have more to say about the top-down Gameboy game. That was the only Alien 3 game I played, and although I never got to play much of it (never owned it, only got to play a friend's copy a bit) it really jumped out at me as something unique and different, although my memories of it are pretty vague. I remember it was nerve-wracking as hell, not least because you started off the game without a weapon and had to evade the aliens until you could find one.
Great review. Btw, if anyone wants more of Alex, there is a fantastic podcast he and another CZcamsr Trav (NESFriend) do. I highly recommend it. It's called DrunkFriend and it is on Google Podcasts.
I remember this game being popular back then. I remember my dad sampling this at either a Babbages or KB toys and was why he went out and got us a super nintendo.
I used to have this game as a kid. It had one of my favorite death screens where you could hear Hudson shouting "Game over, Man!". Wrong movie, but whatever :P
Another great review ! keep em coming !
I love how the intro has been slightly drawn out on all the latest videos.
I need more Charles Nelson Reilly references in youtube videos in general. This is a start.
I loved this game when i was a kid! The music, animation and atmosphere was amazing for its time. Awesome game!
I beat this game when I was a kid. It was awsome! Thanks for the memory
I still play this!😂 Hey you should do Sunset Riders. That's a bad ass game!!🤠
I dont recall LJN publishing this. Im pretty sure I saw the Acclaim logo on the package when I rented it years ago. I know Acclaim used LJN as a shell company, but am I mistaken???
The intro of the game allways blows me away. Damn i like it and the music and sounds are great i think
Okay, so how can I get a copy of this again ?? I do remember playing it and it was great as you said.
Currently playing thru Alien Isolation and that game is AMAZING. One of my favorites now all-time !
I love how your intros seem to have gotten longer after the whole "iNtRo Is BaD" debacle. :D
¿When did that happen? I just subbed recently.
@@djpegao it seems like every now and then he would get a comment complaining about the "long" intro. He "addressed" it in the Race Drivin' review, in the best possible way xD
Same
@@djpegao Check out the Race Drivin' review, and get ready for some SNES Drunk ASMR! :)
The intro makes me lol everytime
I released a survival horror game recently and i saw a fair few comments saying it reminded them of the Alien 3 game, which was amusing as I never played it or looked into it past the AVGN review.
I remember playing the SNES version of Alien 3 on an emulator and it's honestly great. I wouldn't be surprised if the makers of Aliens: Infestation took inspiration from this game. And I'll agree that it genuinely captures the mood and feel of the movie. The graphic detail of the prison segment of fury 161 is honestly unsettling. With the current craze of vg compilations I think it would be great if they made one of the good alien games for current consoles like the Switch.
Great review, thanks Drunk. Please check out the improvement patches for Alien 3 Genesis and especially for the NES version they fix really brutal flaws in those games IMO.
I never knew they were patched. I gotta check that out.
absolutely love this game, i still play this every once in a while
The music alone is AAA. Especially the ending credits... Nicely done... GAME OVER MAN!!!
Drunk, you gotta do the Aliens game on the DS. It was killer!
My opinion of Alien 3 has improved over the years.
I recently watched the directors's cut on Blu-Ray, and was quite impressed by it.
(Technically it's not an "official" director's cut because Fincher disowned the film, but the edit was based on Fincher's notes, hence it is a _de facto_ director's cut. I highly recommend you check out this version of the movie, if you haven't already.)
It's probably fair to say that any version of Alien 3 ranks below the first two Alien movies, but nonetheless I think that Alien 3 is underrated - especially the (de facto) director's cut.
The music in the Sega Genesis version is fantastic. It’s a pretty fun run and gun game. The time limit is its major downfall. It takes some map memorization and the no go continues start all over again was frustrating for me as a child. I never beat the game till I played it in psp with save states. However last year when I had foot surgery I had plenty of time to take it down on original hardware, only needing to look up 1 of final levels for best prisoner save route. Finally beat the game after 25 years on my original childhood sega. A proud moment.
I love this game, i remember drawing maps to get around faster.
4:50 lol take a pic with your phone. Still a luxury! When I was 10 renting games like this from corner stores, I'd have the pen and pad ready!!
The passwords are weird. I think I remember one being cabinet and another was squirrel.
Bcuz of the intro easily my favorite review channel
Take a picture of the screen with your phone? You mean jot it down in the notebook that you kept for these kinds of things, Mario Kart track times, Metroid maps, cheat codes (except the one everybody knows by heart) et cetera?
My brother, my best mate and myself actually all three had at least the Norwegian record for Ghost Valley 3 -- at least at the time of printing for that particular issue of Nintendo-Magasinet :P
For some reason, this reminds me of the Alienators Evolution GBA game.
Especially the jump.
Good video review, Drunk man! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I had this game for years. Never beat it but it a staple on my cartridge rotation.
