Pro tip - before you pour the molasses, gently coat the measuring cup with veg oil. The oil won't go into the mixture and it will keep your measuring cup clean of molasses.
I chuck my mixing bowl on a scale and just pour in how much i need works even better

I added maple syrup in substitute on molasses and they turned out just as delicious 🤤 so if anyone doesn’t have molasses so they can use maple syrup or honey

Can you make without molasses?
Because of you I was able to successfully bake my first ever cake for my 66th bd and it came out perfect. I use a scale and I sift. It was a chocolate cake with chocolate icing. Made it in a Bundt pan because it's too hot in Florida to crank up the big oven to make layered cakes. Before this I failed at every attempt to bake a cake. Your little tidbits are important to beginners like me. Thanks

While you can use the dough as soon as it's firm allowing it to rest overnight makes SUCH a difference. It allows the sugar to mature in the dough and get a richer flavour! Also the same for things like chocolate chip cookies containing brown sugar 😍 x

Made these yesterday and waited for them to chill so I ended up baking at almost midnight 🤣 they taste great ! I will probably add a bit more spices when I make them again bc I loveee that holiday warmth and flavor.

Made these yesterday, well I started off the day before as recommended, and yes, the dough gets soft pretty quick but the cookies came out Amazing!! My piping skills aren't as good as John's but all in all they looked great for an amateur! Made 3 dozen, I am wrapping these up in colorful green and red cellophane and X-mas plates for a Pre-Christmas get together. For someone with shaky hands, your decorating is still really, really good! I don't like gingerbread, so I am going to use your sugar cookie recipe instead. Before the pandemic, my work used to have an employee shop night with cookie decorating. As a baker, I had to make the cookies and I always used your sugar cookie recipe!
My 11 year old just made this cookie dough for a school “food truck” day. He picked a “Christmas food truck” as his. He will be taking them to school on Friday. We will be topping a cheesecake/red velvet cake with these! Also making gingerbread houses, and snowflakes as well. I’ll come back and tell you how it goes. I did taste the batter and it was delicious. Letting it chill over night and baking tomorrow evening💕 thanks for the recipe.

Made these and received major compliments! The only thing was I live in Florida and cutting the cookies worked for five minutes before dough was too soft. I made some gingerbread men and some round cookies.

I did those last year after this recipe and they were SO delicious! A must every christmas for sure! We in Germany have something very similiar called Lebkuchen but those gingerbread cookies are a level up!

I wish gingerbread man cookies were sold year round. That is my absolute favorite cookie to eat. It sucks that it's only available for 1 month. But because of this video, I can have them year round.
