Arirang Alone is a 600 year old Korean folksong. She is 42 years and a cancer survivor, she teaches music at an university and she arranged all her covers and songs. She also writes fantasy novels with succes. She sang; " Bridges over troubled water',"Lean on me","Power of love', "You raised me up ", I will always love you, DayDay= Rap song, Mona Lisa= Rock song. She is the best !
She is so technically amazing and her voice and breath control is second to none. This is a Korean folk song that she did the arrangement for. I always get teary eyed when she goes from the belt to those amazingly soft quiet final notes. She is without one of the best singers in the world..

She gets called the "Korean Mariah Carey" because they're both such incredible vocalists, but stylistically, they're quite different. I've seen some voice teachers/vocal coaches and reactors say she reminds them of Celine Dion, who is also stylistically different from both Mariah and Sohyang. In those cases, I think they were referring to the clarity and purity of her voice being reminiscent of Celine Dion's, which is very true. They are all unique, all the Whitney Houston level vocalists, of which Sohyang is one, but she's my favourite because of the emotional impact she delivers time and time again, which is something I've never experienced from anyone else. I enjoyed your reaction, and I hope you do more Sohyang, especially from the King Of Masked Singer series.

Arirang is an ancient folk song. That is why it was produced in a traditional costume, staging, etc. Sohyang does ALL of her song arrangements including Stage, Chorus, and Band/Orchestra.

Sohyang seems to be able to do everything that can be done with her voice.

This Arirang Alone is a traditional folk song that Sohyang modernized and innovated with new elements that made it into an epic song. That's why the audience seems to know the lyrics well.

Queen So Hyang, the angel.
Even if she's dubbed as a Korean Mariah Carey by some media, no she is not. Mariah is a legend(in fact, I love her so much) and So Hyang stated that she respects Mariah, but she's just So Hyang herself. She is not someone's second. She is too great to be a posterity of anyone. Like you said similarly, she is the best vocalist that Korea has ever produced. And she is probably the best vocalist on the planet right now.

Arirang has been oral for hundreds of years and is a beautiful folk song listed in UNESCO.
Arirang has a little different melody and lyrics depending on the area, and there are various versions.
Sometimes it is a labor song when you are working hard, and when the country is invaded or in crisis, it is a song that brings together your heart.
This song is a more modern arrangement of Arirang, and her clothes are Korean traditional costumes called hanbok.

We all wonder if So Hyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she's from another planet or perhaps an angel come down from Heaven. We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. She does all the musical arrangements herself, teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages. Korean, English, French and Vietnamese.
Let me catch my breath. OK.
She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all travelled to Asia to work with her.
She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Because of this she is prone to catching pneumonia but has sang perfectly while suffering from it in her live performance of "You Raise Me Up" before Shane Filan of Westlife on South Korean TV. czcams.com/video/te_L9ofhUt8/video.html She has asked those who love her singing to pray that God keep pneumonia away from her, she has suffered from it on so many occasions. Imagine how she must feel with this coronavirus floating around everywhere!

After being sick with pneumonia through much of 2016, and considering giving up singing altogether, she decided to enter a televised singing contest called "King of the Masked Singers" in 2017 and won six consecutive times, which has catapulted her into international fame from the performances being posted on CZcams. Apparently Oprah Winfrey saw her on CZcams and showed her to David Foster, who then contacted her and went to Japan in order to work together. She could be an international Super Star if she wanted to be but has decided that it would ruin her spiritually, quoting Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death." So she does not pursue fame or fortune and actually has no social media presence whatsoever. What can one say about such a person? She is a literal Wonder Woman! And we need about a billion more just like her!

Well, one more gush. In an interview with a Turkish music producer So Hyang says that she can hit Eb7 and D7 in practise. However, she never goes above the 6th octave in performances. Oh, I just remembered, she is also a published novelist and a very good stage actress, which she proved by playing Julie Andrews’ part in the South Korean production of “The Sound of Music.” Moreover, she sang the “Moana” part in the Disney film.

For all Sohyang songs in all competitions, Sohyang always re-interprete all the songs. In other words, the audience only heard of these versions for the first time when she first performed (in fact, most competitors do that in Korea, and not just Sohyang).

Arirang is like an unofficial Korean anthem and there are a number of different versions out there. Sohyang put her own spin on this so although it's familiar to everyone it's uniquely hers.
