    I have a 2014 with 22k miles, fca is changing my engine right now cuz they found oil on my coolant! I believe that you just answered my question as to where that oil came from.

    Really appreciate the video and the diligence in looking at these issues.
    In the interest of helping you improve (constructive criticism), the videos would be much better if you had some kind of a stationary mount for your camera. Just the small amount of shaking/wobbling/moving of the video camera causes motion sickness, especially when I make it full screen. I know that some shots just can't be done with a stationary camera, but minimizing the camera shake/jitter really helps.

    I have a 2018 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel with 189000km. The engine oil level is pretty low and the expansion tank is full of oil. What is running thrue the round connector on oil cooler. Is it oil or coolant. Cause if it's oil, I might have a radiator issue or if it 's coolant, then it might be the oil cooler that cross contaminate the cooling system by bringing oil in the rad and elsewhere. Thank you for your answer.

    machining from inside the block and or heads. or the coolants is eating away at something as u said. the 6.0l's had the same issue with block casting chunks. i've pulled a dime sides chunk out before

      block sating, as well as ford gold coolant would create sediment because of high heat

    Does adding an aftermarket oil cooler void the warranty????

    Don’t know that they will get clogged up because of being before the filter. Cummins has ran their oil cooler between the pump and filter on the ISX family for a LONG time. Had to replace a few for being plugged up with silicone, but never from any kind of debris in the oil. Wish the eco diesel was like the ISX and had the option of mounting a second cooling brick.

    Same issue with my oil cooler in 2015 Cherokee V6. But I had a rubber piece in mine. The o-rings look like they failed. The oil side is hard pushed into the coolant side.

    • @nitekry
      @nitekry Před 5 lety

      Also note second failure. First sent oil out the side instead of into coolant.

  • @user-mv9se6vy1i
    @user-mv9se6vy1i Před rokem

    So what caused the failure? I figured it is clogged, then overheated with the 12k oil change intervals thus causing it to fail. Your thoughts?

    My 2012 jeep grand cherokee’s engine blown because of this. The same vm motori engine. All vm23d, vm44d and vm63d has the same egr and oil coolant leaking problem. And FCA shit on that...

  • @thermorex
    @thermorex Před 8 lety +1

    Interesting stuff, so what do you speculate is causing the failure? Manufacturing issues? Oil being too thick and creating pressure through the cooler fins? Contaminated coolant that clogs the passages? It's interesting that the same manufacturer makes oil coolers for other engines that don't have this failures at all, and they also work on the same principle.

    • @moparecodiesel
      @moparecodiesel  Před 8 lety

      +thermorex i dont know if you saw, but all 4 of these coolers are all built within 6 months of each other, all in 2013. yes even the new 2015 with 13000 miles was built in 2013. So everyone thinking they are dodging the bullet and waiting is stupid. by the first time we started seeing oil cooler failure trends, they havnt even got through the 2014 oil cooler supply. Which is why there isnt a revision, there are probably a million they have to burn through before theyll issue a revision. So we started seeing oil cooler failures in late 2014, so the 2017 model ecodiesel will finally exhaust the 2014 oil cooler supply which is when there will be a oil cooler revision.

    • @thermorex
      @thermorex Před 8 lety +1

      +mopar ecodiesel (dotcom) thanks, so you think this is primarily a manufacturing issue for this oil cooler model.

    Are these oil coolers a warranty covered part? just bought a 2014 ecodeisel(used ,60k miles) and 2 weeks of the lot i noticed loss of coolant. I am currently trying to get the dealer that i bought it from to fix it, as I'm assuming this didnt "just happen". Any advice would help. Thanks!

    • @stradplayer90

      matt murphy Maybe. You would likely only have powertrain coverage and sometimes the fine prints writes out oil cooler

  • @davidwhittaker9511
    @davidwhittaker9511 Před 5 lety

    When the oil cooler fails....Does the coolant get contaminated by oil first vs the oil getting contaminated with coolant, or does it fail simultaneously? Would coolant sampling and oil sampling help predict the issue before it does damage to the engine components?

    • @nitekry
      @nitekry Před 5 lety

      On mine is seems to have only sent oil into coolant.

  • @moparecodiesel

    Since both these owners warranty was void due to them removing their emissions system, im trying to help prove the oil cooler failure was not caused by them removing those devices. One of the owners does have an attorney. Both owners DO have a legal case. This failure was not their fault.

    • @crazyhass84
      @crazyhass84 Před 8 lety

      well the owner chose to remove the emissions equipment. that's not like they just put on a cold air intake! deleting the emmissions equipment requires new ecm tuning etc. yes oil cooler shouldn't fail from removing emissions but that's not the point. the owners broke federal law! fca has no responsibility to criminals. don't like it? call the epa. don't break laws and expect someone else to protect u...

    • @crazyhass84
      @crazyhass84 Před 8 lety

      ***** I agree global warming is a joke. However u can't brake the law and then complain. Voiding their warranty is the nice thing fca could do. 1 call to the epa and the owners who remove emissions are in jail and/or fined 10k. So the ignorance of owners still amazes me. Fca could face 100k fine for not turning in customers.... they just void the warranty and walk away. Owners should consider them selves lucky

    • @crazyhass84
      @crazyhass84 Před 8 lety +1

      +Russ Quest do u know anything about diesel engines and emissions? or how too design them? well I do and the eco diesel runs in Europe with all the same emissions systems. they r more strict on PM emissions and US is more strict on Nox emissions but the same overall systems are used. so your comment that eco diesel runs without the emissions in Europe is completely false! maybe China or India etc but if u check a map those are different continents and emissions zones...

    • @graygryphon2008
      @graygryphon2008 Před 6 lety +1

      As a paralegal I am sorry but they do not have a case. Your warranty specifically states the it is void if you mess with the emissions systems or modify the truck in such a way that the modification could cause irreparable damage not to mention that it is illegal to do this.

    I have my eco diesel in the shop now trying to prove that there is coolant in my oil. The technician hasn't gotten back to me yet. My coolant started out as fluorescent purple and now at 16,000 miles it's getting darker. I swiped the coolant expansion tank and it feels slimy and has a carbon smell to it. I got some coolant test strips and found that the acid protection was completely gone. I'll update when I hear back with what the service department comes back with.

  • @ronaldspins
    @ronaldspins Před 8 lety +2

    Why would owners tamper with their emission system and give the
    manufacturer an out to not honor the warranty?
    These same owners should by an old Dodge P.U with a Cummins to play with.

    • @CSXtrackworker
      @CSXtrackworker Před 8 lety +1

      The emissions system shortens the life of a motor. Already been proven in the 6.0 and 6.4 powerstrokes..

    • @ronaldspins
      @ronaldspins Před 8 lety

      Wrong

    • @CSXtrackworker
      @CSXtrackworker Před 8 lety +1

      Have you ever worked on these trucks? Especially the 6.4 powerstroke. Do you know about cylinder 7&8 with how it operates the emissions burn off? Do you know about how the egr cooler fails on the 6.0 and even with a bulletproof egr cooler how it will still burn up a motor? I will say no. No you do not.

    • @ronaldspins
      @ronaldspins Před 8 lety

      I would not waste my valuable time with a powerstroke 6.0 or a 6.4
      or for that matter a 3.0 ecodiesel , if a emission system is properly
      engineered it is not a liability.

    • @CSXtrackworker
      @CSXtrackworker Před 8 lety +1

      Your reply holds no water. You have no clue as to how bad these systems are to the motor's reliability and longevity. These things are troublesome, burn up motors, They even require constant issues with heavy haul tractor trailer service. This is not limited to just pickup trucks. Whether it has a straight filter burn off from the motor or a def system on the truck it makes no difference. Try working on them for a week then get back to me on what this stuff does to motors.

    Hello Shawn, I've been following your vids for several months now and very much appreciate YOUR KEEN AWARENESS of
    "all things diesel" especially on this Eco-diesel and your willingness to share your experiences with THE COMMUNITY...i.e.
    the rest of us. Being THAT you are KEEN on reliability and longevity of YOUR WORK TRUCK, I'd like to turn you onto a innovator in your area (Utah) who came up with a very advanced lubricant that I think you'd appreciate and can then pass onto
    your family, friends and followers of your channel. His name is Mike Eager and he can be reached at 435-313-2900. In the late 80s and early 90s he developed his product into a Fuel Additive and Oil Additive package that really does protect your engine and is especially good for Diesels, being THAT they operate at higher pressures. Please know, I am not affiliated with him in any way....except only to PASS ON A GOOD PRODUCT to my fellow countrymen, hopefully to make their way a little smoother-goin' . The name of his product is Dyna-Lube. He's more of an inventor/innovator (and Master Mechanic by trade) and isn't a big marketer and not internet savvy (he's really down-to-earth and not an aggressive sales type).....but his products really work. (his website is www.dynalube.biz ) I encourage you to check out his site and even call him up. He's in Santa Clara, Ut I already mentioned to him about your predicament with your Ecodiesel and sent him the LINK to DandJ...so he could pass that info on as well.

    If that guy let Chrysler deny that warranty claim over an unrelated modification he's a chump. They cannot dent claims over modifications unless they can prove the modification is what resulted in the failure. This has been a common way dealers attempt to deny claims but its not legal and should always be contested by the owners.

    • @graygryphon2008
      @graygryphon2008 Před 6 lety +1

      You void the warranty on any vehicle when you mess with the emissions system. It is against federal law to do so.

    • @Alex-us2vw
      @Alex-us2vw Před 6 lety

      Must be an American law. Where I live they cannot deny a claim due to modifications unless they can show the mod caused the failure.
