Queen's performance of this set is perfection, everyone brought their "A Game" but Freddie really pushed it over the top. Queen used their 20 minute slot to pack in 6 hits that the audience would recognize and could sing along with, and Freddie got them all pumped up with the call and response (Ay-Oh) which was very smart. Also, Queen was used to playing large stadiums which was also to their advantage. Of course, Queen is a London band and that probably also helped since when the tickets for this event were sold, Queen was not scheduled for the event so this was not a Queen crowd. But nobody knew how to engage a crowd like Freddie Mercury, he was a genius as a Frontman. Queen stole this show, I watched the whole event on TV live on the day and it was a great concert, everybody who was anybody in rock was there performing either in London or in Philadelphia. The two were coordinated so that there was always music even during set changes. This was not a huge crowd for Queen there were only 72,000 to 80,000 people depending which number you believe. At Live In Rio, Queen played to crowds of around 300,000 each night, Hyde Park show was over 150,000 and huge crowds in Japan as well. It is hard to know which video to choose but this one is nasty because it cuts off at the end which seriously ruins the mood. I try to send the link for the right one when I suggest this concert. Freddie sounded this amazing after having laryngitis the week before this concert. It wasnât only Queen who realized they had been sensational. Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. âEverybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,â said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercuryâs trailer after the set. âYou bastards, you stole the show,â joked the charismatic star.
âQueen smoked âem. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band youâd ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,â said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. âAnd thatâs what made the band so great; thatâs why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, because they could connect with an audience.â
The entire band was on fire. I wish the camera showed a little more of John, Brian, and John's performances.
This is the best front man performance in the history of Rock. They focused on exactly what they should have..... Does not take away from the other band members at all.
I agree. We all love Freddie but we love the whole band is loved just as much.
The Bass never gets attention. I think John has been treated like an second class Queen member his whole career. With no one left to back John up on ideas, I can see why he left the band.

9.48 is at the end of the whole show when Freddie and Brian came back to perform Is This The World We Created a song that they both composed in 1983 when they saw a footage of the famine which happened at the time in Ethiopia. Fantastic song with meaningful lyrics that so relevant today more than ever

Movie was a farse, too many false information. There was 72,000 in Wimbledon concert and 89,484 in the Philadelphia concert. The two shows were shown simultaneously with world wide TV coverage. There was a total of 75 acts between both show.
And it sucked. So much made-up crap trashing Freddie and John.
Unfortunatunately you hit that wrong link which misses that last few seconds of the song with of the woooooooooooorld note that Freddie holds perfectly even that he has problems to catch a breath just moment before.

Live Aid made 24 million dollars for famine in Africa .

Queen dressed down for that performance, just everyday clothes, nothing fancy, they got it and delivered. They knew the Importance of what they were doing. Bowie who went on after them said "How the F**k do I follow that?"
. . . wonderful set. I believe Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing Called Love in 1977. His tribute to Elvis Presley who had died about 2 yrs earlier.
Elvis died in 1977 and Freddie wrote the song in 1979

Sorry you got the version that cut off at the end, but it's okay... great video! If you haven't already, do watch their other most iconic performance - "Somebody to Love" Live at Montreal. It's from '81 but the picture & sound quality are perfect because it was shot on film for a documentary that didn't end up getting made, I guess. That's why it's perfect pic & sound.
