“The real question we should be asking…” - Deflection at its finest!
The third question should always be, what percentage of your salary is paid by taxpayers?
You can't say? So it's not 100%, and you have corporations lining your...
100%? Oh, then don't you owe these people who pay your salary actual answers (insert their title and name here)?
More like at its most obvious
@@adrianpillai6645good luck. That conversation only goes as far as your head
@misterkid yes unfortunately. The answer was not answered (lots of waving at other issues) and when we were leaving I was not alone to the car park. Such is life in a democracy where the local government thinks dimly of such questions.
Straight from the Yes, Minister handbook. Edited by Sir Humphrey himself 😂
It's scary that this is meant to be satirical, yet it feels uneasily real
Because it is based on real situations and real interviews just exaggerated
If you add a layer of everyone hating everyone else and a thick helping of intellectual dishonesty and this is all of politics
You might consider looking up what satire is, and why it is used. Satire can, and often does, feel "too real" when it's used correctly, because the point of it is to lampoon things that actually happen.
I've had media training suggesting exactly these types of deflection.
Because narcissism is a global pandemic at this point.
The problem with this show is it's too close to reality and it is painful.
Some people like inflicting it, it's your own fault if you keep watching it if you don't enjoy that 😂
Best one was the ID identity episode and Tony said let's do a trial run using the politicans as a test suddenly the project was canned😂
@@julianwalls1077 yep. "Who's on board?"
To me who doesn't live in your country. I find it comedy GOLD.😂
Like Yes Minister
‘5.5 years behind schedule’ - Yep, sounds like almost every govt construction project
Actually two years ahead of anything else. And there wasn't even talk of balooning budgets.
They forgot that its going to cost up to 10x more than what it was meant to cost
@@Yzorixul That's in other parts of the episode!
So it's going well then.
only 5 years thats progress in my book
Our world is so messed up that doing this will have you succeed yet answering truthful gets you fired
None of these people can actually be fired from there jobs. Contracts and BS make it too difficult.
"What's your name?" "I'm glad you asked that question"
“But the more important question, is what my name is not.”
"But the real question we should be asking... what is your number and would you like to join me at dinner today?"
“What is the most recent budget report on this project?”
“Yes.”
That's a great question, a fantastic question, I'm really glad you brought that up. Let's circle back to that later in the meeting
“What’s in a name?”🤷🏻♀️
I love this show, it really encapsulates this feeling you have at work where you ask yourself if you’re the only sane person in the company
speaking truth is the new mental illness, the amount of weird looks i get when i start asking questions...
watching politicians explain how they spent money. example 6 million dollars to build a restroom in a park in NYC.
Just like the high speed rail in cali the contractors contract other contractors 😂 god we love contracting
Trying to get a straight answer out of any politician.
yeah the dark comedy here is when public servants, project managers, engineers, tradespeople and then every bloody person starts using the same word games as politicians
My question is, “How does Tony stop himself from punching people like this?”
He is well paid to take deep breaths.
Thank you for that question, that is a great question
"I'm glad you asked! Tony here, like all other staff members, has undergone thorough training to ensure that the workplace remains a welcoming place for all team members. We are also committed to continuously improve interdepartmental relationships through team building events and other campaigns."
I hate watching this show because it's not a comedy, it's a documentary! I feel so frustrated for Tony!
Agree! It makes me frustrated too because it is too real and looks just like my corporate life😳
This is my council.
My dad used to work in London and the show W1A has exactly the same vibe of "this is funny unless you lived it, then it's just real"
The funny thing about comedy is that it's more funny when it's true 😢.
😂😂😂 yeah !
Thanks for the question. There's no argument that delays can be very frustrating, but it's all part of building for the future. Our team of highly skilled and dedicated individuals has been working diligently to ensure that we can deliver the best quality product to our clients, and that includes taking into consideration potential challenges and hurdles we must overcome, but rest assured we are working diligently day and night to deliver a quality product, that's how we build for the future, thank you.
If only I could remember some of these conversations when dealing with customers
You can’t because you aren’t a sociopath
You're better off being a normal bloke rather than a rodent, trust
One of the top brass at work was previously high up in the RAF and had undergone lots of media training. This is exactly how he used to answer questions. He’d turn up onboard and have you convinced he was a great bloke and was doing everything he could for you then go back to the office and cancel your Xmas bonuses.
This feels too real to the I-30 expansion that’s been happening in AR since like 2012.
Everyone shits on high speed rail for having delays, but every fuckin highway project has the same shit if not worse! I-25 near me had construction in the same 20-mile stretch for like 8 years!
God I've been driving on that highway wondering when they'll start it back up again
Wow the entire US government officials took the same training as this guy
UK too😂
the didn't take the class, they invented the whole course!😂
I thought that they blame each other all time long
Lynn knows her stuff
Excellent. Thank you for revealing manipulation tactics. ❤
The only reason this works is because repeatedly asking and clarifying further makes you feel like you're becoming confrontational or aggressive even though that's not the case, and it makes you uncomfortable while allowing the person you're asking to relax and pick from a handful of vague answers that don't answer your question, or at the very least beat around the bush
Please just release this show worldwide
Apparently it's under the title of dreamland internationally. But I'm gonna try and find it online and watch it
If you have VPN set to australia abc has it for free and netflix has most of it
Every democracy's citizen cries after watching this.love from India.😢😢
It’s an amazing show, it has been on TV here in Australia for a decade or more. I think they are up to their sixth season now.
Can't be done, sorry. Americans would have to remake it in their own language.
"Thank you for the question Senator..." vibes
I ❤ these guys. The writers and actors are brilliant 👏
Every episode I'm guaranteed to laugh.
Rob Sitch Tony and one of the shows writers qualified as a medical doctor but gave up medicine and used his very bright mind in the field of comedy and entertainment. Lucky us!
Some laugh. Others are having flash backs & need a bottle of Rum to calm down and face tomorrow....
SCRUM project meeting at Boeing Starliner
"Why is it five and a half years behind schedule?"
"Well the root cause is we have a contract that says we keep getting paid if we overrun, versus the cost of construction being on the contractor for every day behind schedule."
“Let’s table that for a moment and circle back to that one another time”
Media training sounds like my next cause
Overwatch 2 development team (all I heard was 5 years behind schedule)
Silksong as well, I feel that
Hahaha he instantly clocks the rehearsed statement and cuts him off. Wish I could do that at work 😂😂
You can't do that because you are psychologically stable and/or honest.
best show ever made to depict the true condition of our situation
The same training taken by all ministers.
When I hear the words 'good question' I know I'm about to hear BS.
I love how much I hate it. It's too real, IT'S JUST TOO REAL!!!
Literally “building for the future”
Heard a story that a boss got talked to like this when he asked a manager a question, simply told him "If you do not answer my question properly you will be fired without any benefits or pension, so either give me an answer or get the f*ck out"
Got his answer right after with no BS.
Remember, when people talk around a question like that, the true answer is what is most damaging to them.
Me watching this after experiencing the worst traffic delay to my dentist appointment due to a construction project that has been going for 2 years and has shut down 2 of 3 lanes of a road for months at a time.
Sounds exactly like Fairoaks Avenue near Evelyn Avenue in Sunnyvale, California.
I don't know who thought to make a modern, Oceanian version of Yes, Minister but that person needs prizes
The main character, Tony, is one of the main writers.
It's Australian, not "Oceanian" (whatever the heck that is?!).
Wtf is “Oceanian”?
Assumed OP was making a reference to 1984 and Oceania, but I could be wrong.
@@pl8055I think they are using it akin to saying European since Oceana is the continent that Australia is a part of
This is everything now
And this is why I had no problem telling Latham "that's nice. now answer the question" when he turned up at our uni 🤣
So funny!! Thats the Australian company building the Haywards road connection in Wellington, NZ 🤣 but not really.. Its taking years!!!!
You can't delay perfection, we're right on track.
"answer the question directly or you're immediately fired"
"..... Fuck."
Yeah but he doesn't have the authority to fire him, or to even force him to answer.
Starting to understand what’s NOT happening in every metropolitan city everywhere all at once. Also, Vision Zero. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
"Ok. Hey a different question craig... Why shouldn't I have you audited for fraud, waste, and abuse of public funds."
Any project in Toronto 😂
The ability to get a straight answer from coworkers is a direct result of HR removing the option of violence as a method of reaching the truth.
“Great question, Tony. The answer is *’egregious incompetence’.”*
Or thieving mentality.
Cut the crap and answer the damn question.
Great question!
But the real question we should ask ourselfes is...

All his missing is a north face jacket 😅
Such a great show. I hope you’re planning more seasons
That response of “happy to be here” is such a pr thing too
Omg these are so painful.
“Oh that’s an excellent question. It reminds me of a story my grandfather once told me.”
And then he asks the lollipop guy and even he has had media training. LOL
Sounds like the Queensland Government and CFMEU!
You are very correct. I was looking at the costing for construction of the rail line to the Sunshine Coast yesterday. It's expected to cost over $5b for about 15km of railway and two stations. Perth just opened a similarly sized line (14km, 3 stations) for just over 1 billion dollars. It does appear that the gov in Qld has forgotten how to build infrastructure.
I have the same reaction from people when I ask my question
"What was the temperature of the film inside the camera while being on the Moon?"
This should help answer your question. www.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/static/history/afj/ap13fj/pdf-hr/90-apollo-tv-camera.pdf

Different labels on the same flavour of shit. Both parties deflect either by wordplay or by blaming others and take no accountability.
Can confirm, she does this to just about every question (sometimes every question).
@@SonaraRunaI mean at least trump will answer questions
@@Azaqa sure he'll say words. Unfortunately he's just as senile as Biden so it's usually an incoherent ramble that has no real meaning.
@@ericwhite553 he may be just as old, but saying he's just as senile shows your bias. Trump is still coherent and sharp. Who knows how long that'll last but that time has already long passed for Biden.

Just purrrfect

Reminds me of highschool. Was always told to never leave a question blank just reframe the question into something you do know about the topic and answer that instead. Lol
There’s a children’s hospital in Dublin that’s “building for the future” since 2016.

Excellent
When you find yourself upset at a non answer, you know that's some good media training
After the second question, my next words would be, "You're fired!"
I mean, if you are asking that question 5 years after being delayed, then the problem is you the manager of the project 😂
Scomochio had the same trainings
In 2018 I almost rented an apartment on a street that had been getting light rail transit added for the past 7 years. The realtor assired me that it was scheduled to be completed by 2020 at the latest. As of 2024, we *might* get part of it open. In December. Maybe. 13 Billion well spent, I say
When i heard the "thanks for the question" it will be a BS answer
I love this show! It’s Yes Minister for the 21st century :)
"Why the delay?"
"Because no matter how far behind we get and how much cost overrun we have, the government will still pay us"
As an engineer, this is the kind of crap I deal with when I am with sales. I am retiring in 2 months. F it
