I read this a lot, but in practice I've personally never upgraded within the lifespan of a single socket. And that's also what I see in my social circle, by the time people want to upgrade a CPU, the platform they currently own is dead anyway as it's generally once every 5 or 6 generations. For instance my friend upgraded from Ryzen 1700X on B350, which is technically AM4. But their motherboard never got the BIOS update needed to run a 5800X3D. So they upgraded to AM5 with a 7800X3D instead. Same for me, I went from Q6600 G0, to i5-3570K, to i5-11400. Regardless of whether I had gone with Intel or AMD at the time I would have had to upgrade the entire platform 3 times anyway.

@@Mashiyat meh, it's not really about luck. I just buy whatever meets my requirements at the time and offers the best bang for the buck. And then I use it until it becomes frustrating, and then I upgrade. So I pay no attention to an upgrade path within the platform because I know I'm not going to use it regardless. And even now if I wanted an 'upgrade' I can buy an i9-11900K for barely 200 euro.

It would be a chore to use, but you could still use a Core 2 PC from 2006 on the internet today. In 2006, a computer from 1988 would have been almost entirely useless for anything but its original purposes.
Until just 2 days ago i was still running GTX 970 | i5-4690 😂 9 good years but needed to upgrade as games are more demanding now. And my £500 monitor kinda needs it.
its my first time using an AMD GPU and eventhough its great ! sometimes for no reason the game just lags / crashes, its pretty rare and after the latest update it stopped crashing but sometimes the lags still happen, with lags i mean it should be at 100fps+ but suddenly the game feels like 15fps, dunno why dunno how but it happens sometimes still... i really like the amd gpu but i think in terms of software they still have to catch up to nvidia
amd said their r9 390 would be comparable to the 970 after launch with some updates, so I snagged that around 2015... thats the only pc purchase that i regret... im willing to pay more for a good product now, so I wont be touching amd again

It's kind of strange how AMDs cpus are so power efficient and the gpus have had some issued like multi monitor and idle power issues. Might be that Nvidia is really pushing since they own the market on the gpu side and Intel's cpu arent as refined.

I run my card undervolted, get 90% of the preformance but i dropped my temps with 15c on both gpu and cpu, 600rpm fan speed. Your case it might be a design flaw or it's just a bad cooling solution from the partner that make the card.
Day 1 a new thing game graphics settings can also cause bottleneck to your system. In my case I was using a GeForce 820m mobile GPU in my laptop on Assassin's creed rogue with low settings caused a bottleneck. But scene changed with higher settings.
Something that’s been ticking me off on these shorts is the fps per dollar scale that pops up, because the fps and the dollar should be swapped as if the dollar is heavier then that means more money for less fps, while it should be the other way around. Doesn’t really matter but it’s mildly annoying for some reason
I have an R7 7800X3D for my cpu and a 7900xtx for the gpu. It’s an amazing system and since I hate frame gen, upscaling, and think raytracing is stupid, getting a 24GB card for future proofing feels awesome.
I just game on my PC. Don't car about RTX, DLSS, or AMD FSR and other frame generation or upscaling. Native render with pure performance for me. Bought an RX 6700XT last year, love it !
Highly unlikely, they have their hands full with just regular flat gaming problems still, and will continue to for the foreseeable future. Also that's hardly the whole picture, just look at the AMD 7000-series... AMD finally stepped up and did their part in updating their drivers for VR support on the 7000s, but in some form the problem still remains. At this point it's Meta that's the issue, they still show 7000 series as unsupported, and are completely neglecting PCVR as a whole since they make far more money from standalone. So yeah, even if Intel was to take the time to work on vr support, it would be all for naught until Meta stops ignoring PCVR as a whole.

There will always be a bottleneck. A GPU bottleneck means you're using the full potential of that 4070 and it's not held back by a slow CPU, memory, lower resolution, or something like V-Sync or an FPS limiter in-game. You could save some money and get a Ryzen 7600 (or 7700 if you want better multicore performance) and still get similar gaming performance because that 4070 will be the bottleneck anyways. A GPU bottleneck is ideal as long as it's not something ridiculous like a RTX 3050 and i9-14900K. That 7800X3D + 4070 combo is pretty good, however.
Ive been building computers for about 20 years as my hobby. Each year I build at minimum two top end systems with the best from AMD/Intel/Nvidia and use them to see which I like best and eventually sell the other. Last 3 years I've sold the AMD systems for various reason. This year I've already had to RMA my 7800x3d due to BSOD issues after the memory controller started failing. Still have the 12900ks, 13900ks, and currently using my undervolted 14900ks happily. Just my experience but over the years I've had far more problems with AMD than I have ever had with Intel/Nvidia. Personally I think they are all terrible companies but I've had more problems with AMD overall.

I'd buy an AMD graphics card in an instant if they had a competitively priced GPU at 12 gigs of VRAM (meaning I'm avoiding RTX4000 cards just as much). When it comes to CPUs and APUs, I'd go for AMD any day of the week, no doubt about that.

4060Ti not the best price to performance card, also are you doing productivity work as 5800x is overkill for just gaming, however if you need 8 cores go for 5700x, or pure gaming, 5600 is enough.
rtx 4080 dp 1.4 = limited to 8 bit colorrange if u want max hertz out of ur monitor. amd 7900 xtx dp 2.1 = can run both max hertz and 10 bit quality in high hertz without have to lower the hertz.
Nvidia is doing too much Apple tactics, creating cards within a survivable cost that lacks one thing or another so you are enticed to buy one step higher. Like the Apple Minis and Apple Studio. The video from Vex explains it better. So if you really want future proofing and get enough Vram. Suddenly you end up having to buy a card costing more than what budget you really had to go by. Amd has their first 16gb vram card at 427usd, RX 7600xt. On Nvidia talking about the last series you end up being stuck on 8gb vram until you get up to 630usd with the 4060Ti. But at that point you have the RX 7800 xt costing the same, sometimes a little less. 700usd + if you go to a 4070, sounds like a price that would also give you 16gb vram. But it has 12gb. So then, if 16gb was important for you to have. Then next would be 4070Ti Super at 947usd +. On it goes, I would had bought the 7800 xt for my pc upgrade if there wasn't a Rx 6800 available at the used section at work for 528usd. It wasn't used, the box had an accident, so wast dented all ugly. The Gpu, flawless condition regardless.

I have amd and it crashes all the time work great when it actually works
Problem is Amd Gpu’s have a lot of driver issues and just bad system stability.

= can run both max hertz and 10 bit quality in high hertz without have to lower the hertz.
Nvidia is doing too much Apple tactics, creating cards within a survivable cost that lacks one thing or another so you are enticed to buy one step higher. Like the Apple Minis and Apple Studio. The video from Vex explains it better.
So if you really want future proofing and get enough Vram. Suddenly you end up having to buy a card costing more than what budget you really had to go by.
Amd has their first 16gb vram card at 427usd, RX 7600xt. On Nvidia talking about the last series you end up being stuck on 8gb vram until you get up to 630usd with the 4060Ti.
But at that point you have the RX 7800 xt costing the same, sometimes a little less.
700usd + if you go to a 4070, sounds like a price that would also give you 16gb vram. But it has 12gb. So then, if 16gb was important for you to have. Then next would be 4070Ti Super at 947usd +.
On it goes, I would had bought the 7800 xt for my pc upgrade if there wasn't a Rx 6800 available at the used section at work for 528usd. It wasn't used, the box had an accident, so wast dented all ugly. The Gpu, flawless condition regardless.
Amd is also already using way more watts with worse performance compared to the rtx 4060 ti 😬
Also, lying about rtx 4060 ti to make rx 7600 xt look better? yikes, not surprising though, I found an rtx 4060 ti with 16gb that is 134 usd cheaper than your rx 7600 xt, brand new by the way

Intel and amd go back and forth all the time. Intel was in the lead for a while. Now it's amd's turn. Give it a couple years. Intel will be back on top. Zach is completely right in this vid.
