  • In this video I show you how to remove the center console, eyeball vents, and the tombstone (center trim around the radio) from a Mazda MX5 Miata, of both the NA and the NB generation. This tutorial will guide you through all the steps to take off the center console, vents, and the center trim, as well as show the necessary tools, which for this is just a philips head screwdriver. Removing this will allow for access to the radio and more.

    Hey - I bought a Radio adaptor from you through ETSY! Got around to starting on that yesterday (2/12/22) with our local thaw. Very happy to find this video today and put a face to the guy on ETSY!!!

    Here's what it takes to remove a center console, tombstone, and eyeball vents from a Miata!

    Nice concise video, good use of camera angles. Thanks.
    I have a similar bezel on the radio: as it nec to remove it? Mines very flimsy but stuck. Good warnings about popping the eyes (vents): I'm going try to catch the rear lip of the cylinder with modified screwdriver. Else, I suggest levering slightly around the edges to 'unstick' it before actual removal using several laces to spread the load. Plastics are good, but 1991 was a long time ago! Thanks again for the vid!

      @@CashedOutCars My radio has a similar trim around the front of the radio. I noticed that you removed it first. Just was wondering if it was removed for safe keeping rather than because it somehow prevented the removal of the whole console/facia... it seems to be separate. I was hoping to keep the trim in place so as to avoid damaging it. Ok... that's a lot of words to describe the simple issue, but hopefully it's clear :). Thanks

      Gotcha, I understand now! I remove mine because the trim itself was slightly larger than the hole I had to pull the radio out of, so in my case it had to come off. If there’s room to remove the radio without taking the trim off it can be done! Good luck

    Great video (y).
    Just add which version of MX-5 / Miata it is for, since there are several generations and the procedures are not the same for all.

    once it's all removed, does one bin it for permanent weight reduction? or would that throw off the perfect 50/50 weight distribution? all kidding aside, good tutorial. I'll have to give it a try on the next MX5 I see.

      @CashedOutCars  Před 4 lety +1

      Believe me, I considered keeping it out. Since the console is centered weight distribution would stay quite nice :P I made some new custom interior pieces that will be shown shortly instead to help clean it up!
