    Great timing man and your videos are always clear and concise! The SlipAngleMedia boys and I have been doing diffs this month too. My buddy Matt just swapped to a 3.9 and 6Spd and I’m throwing his 4.1 Torsen in my 95 Miata! It currently has an open diff. That needs to go 👋

    Just put a 4.3 Torsen in my base 96. Totally agree on the brass hammer and/or using the nut on the axle to hit it. I mushroomed mine and had to file them down to get the nuts back on. Throw a little anti seize on the splines.

    Lol I did this swap once, but I didn’t have to do any of the hard steps since I gokart dropped the entire drivetrain out of a 99 sport package into my na6. 10/10 would recommend having a parts car. However, now I’m doing all my suspension bushings and I’m having to do all the work I avoided two years ago (read: axle nuts) and it’s very obvious I’m gonna have to reassemble a ton of shit to get them off

    I have heard, perhaps mistakenly, the 1.6 housing will work with the 1.8 differential provided the axels are swapped as well. Is there any reason this was stated and is there any advantages. I just lost my throw out bearing so while I am under taken the removal of the transmission and replacing the clutch, I have been advised to replace the diff with a 1999 3.9. What do you advise?

    I need help, I have a 1990 miata with a stock drivetrain that has recently developed a whine from the diff when decelerating, and a leak from the front of the diff, should I try and fix it or just get a 1.8 diff?

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  Před 2 lety

      I’d recommend checking your fluid level and topping it up and seeing if the noise goes away, if the leak is slow enough. If you don’t track / abuse the car a new 1.6 diff is fine, but it’s not a bad idea to swap in the 1.8 axles, driveshaft and diff if you’re hard on it

    • @CashedOutCars

    Hi, I'm doing a manual conversion, just wondering if there's a difference between the auto and manual diffs?

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  Před 2 lety +1

      Very slight, and it’s pretty insignificant. One diff (the manual) has a weighted ring on it on the input flange, where as autos don’t. This is basically a damper to cut down on vibration, but either should work on either car. The axles are interchangeable. The driveshaft is a different length between the two. Keep in mind you still must use all 1.6 of all 1.8 parts. Good luck!

    I swear I was hoping to see how you got the axles out and out of the way but you cut the camera and didn't show any of that . If you have the stub axles like you show at 3:29 why in the world did you take the big axle nut off ? If you just take the top bolt out like you show at 5:29 it should have given you all the room you needed . Do think the axles needed to be completely removed to get the diff out ?
