I have very fond memories of seeing Angel 2 times in the late 70's (White Hot era). I had the good fortune to have 5th row seats for their very visual stage setup. What sticks in my mind is that they seemed to be sincerely enjoying themselves while performing. I'm sure it is a grind to tour as a rock band; they are one of the few acts that struck me that way. Great video! Thanks for sharing!
This is the most exciting video I've watched in years! So good to see Frank and Punky and Gregg together again. And I must say that they are all in top form, even after all these years. Gregg must still play his keyboards regularly to be able to play this well - he has lost none of his chops over the years. Nor have Punky or Frank. Punky actually seems to play even better than he did in the old days. And for Frank to still be able to sing this difficult song is nothing short of amazing. The skill level on display here is staggering, and made me so very, very happy today. My heart is bursting with emotion right now. The only things missing were Barry and Felix, but damn, the drummer they have managed to hit all of Barry's fills faithfully and accurately, and while the bass seemed to be too low in the mix, he did a great job as well. I am simply overjoyed to see this! Thank you Mr. Sondrini for the upload!
Micky J. passed away years ago. I recognize Punky. He has a tanning salon now I read. I wasn't sure of the rest. Gregg (SP), yes,I miss them. Didn't see a lot of old film footage of them back in tje day and NEVER heard their music on the radio. I have no clue how they got together, their history. Just saw their LP in a store and bought it. This is GREAT!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍🤟🤟🤟🤟!!!!!!!
Angel is one of the most underrated band ever! In the 70ies I've bought most of their records since they were all good. Never understood why they never really broke through. Probably they were a little too synthesizerish for the metal fans.
You're a bit wrong on that I saw him in the early seventies and they did break through sold out shows all the time I saw him live a couple of times they were fantastic, I'm 62 right now and when I saw Angel,I was about 14 or 15yrs old, Municipal Auditorium San Antonio Texas badass show, I remember so very well
I met Greg Guiffria before he went on stage to play "The Tower" with the rest of the guys. He was Very friendly and a humble guy. I showed Greg a couple different Angel logo Necklaces I had made and he was amazed that fans still even cared. I saw him driving his Jag while I was driving back to my hotel and gave him the thumbs up again. Great evening.
Gary Thanks for sharing I love reading stories like this. I met Robert Plant in 83 at JFK airport. He was on the pay phone leaning up against a wall. I approached him, and he put the call on hold in the middle of his conversation just to shake my hand and talk for a moment. Got an autograph too. When I got on the plane there he was in first class. He saw me and said “We meet again” :) He is a perfect Gentleman. He was going to southern Nevada to make his video for “Big Log” from his second solo album that was released that year.
My very first concert. They had the coolest hologram. Very and I mean VERY underrated. Tbey each went their separate ways as friends to great success. I paid 6 bucks for the ticket at Toledo arena. Still after seeing every major ticket band in 11 countries this is still 1 of my best memories with concerts. I've seen them all too.
My first concert as well. That hologram was awesome. At the show I saw at the Prairie Capital Convention Center, the hologram sniffed a few times, and said "I smell the aroma of the Gods!", and the hologram face would change expressions during the show. I took some pretty awesome color photos at that show using push processing and the natural light unfortunately, they're buried somewhere in my storage unit. One of my best concert memories as well!
I remember Playing on Greg Guiffria's Keyboards in a Hotel Room back in St. Louis, Mo. in 1976. I was invited in until Greg showed up, and asked who gave me Permission to Play on them. It was One of his Workers that let me in the room. After Freaking Out on me Greg told me to Leave the Room. i also got to play Pinball in the Game Room at the Same Hotel with the Rest of the Band. The Original Band Members! I went to their Concert that night, and had a Blast! Now My Hair Looks like what Greg's Hair use to look like! He shouldn't Have Cut it! L.o.l.
He actually was offered the job and Gene Simmons mistakenly taken his hesitation as a turn down going down as history is Punky being the only person to turn down kiss there's several interviews with Punky Meadows where he talks about this
angel was the baddest dudes ever classy, girls would bring roses and give them to the band , punky would get the crowd to throw a joint on stage , he would fire it, pass to the crowd , then grab a heineken.

I remember seeing them live several times when they started touring in the 70's. Still trying to find video footage of that great introduction where they used the pods as they were introduced by that oh so classic voice and heavenly music. Seems there are loads of concert footage from so many bands of that era, but this one piece of footage would be a great find. Anyone know if this exists?
Gotta check out their first two albums - self-titled and "Helluva Band". Very progressive with Greg's synths and piano all over them but a huge, hard-rockin' sound. After that they got gradually more poppish.
They were promoted as the antithesis to kiss unfortunately I think Casablanca whether intentionally or accidentally kept their careers down because of Kiss
Gregg Giuffria. Correct spelling of his last name. Looks like Frank DiMino still has his original trademark mic stand. So cool. Angel should have been huge. I think their whole shtick of wearing all white, in contrast to Casablanca label mates KISS, may have turned off some fans. (Frank Zappa was a fan, even. Sort of. He wrote a song called Punky's Whips.) They were all so pretty. And, in a way? Kinda foreshadowed the whole hair metal thing that came about in the 80s, back in the blow-dried 70s. I myself had most of Angel's 70s albums on vinyl. My favorite was the double live album, not just for this song, which, I believe was their only single to hit the charts, but because Gregg Giuffria played a badass keyboard solo, too. Ironically? Or maybe not so Ironically? Giuffria, the band Gregg formed after Angel split up, only had one hit as well, although, I believe that, since it was a power ballad, as sung by David Glenn Eisley, who sounded remarkably like Journey's Steve Perry? "Call To The Heart" was a much bigger hit for Giuffria than "The Tower" ever was for Angel. Sadly. They were just ridiculously, criminally underrated, and, it's unfortunate that KISS managed to pretty much bury Angel due to KISS's ever growing popularity, thanks to all the great hit songs KISS wrote or covered. Not that Angel didn't have other great songs, too (they did), but...none that stood out as monster smash hits that would have put them into the pantheon of great 70s rock bands. Oh. KISS transitioned into the 80s from their 70s heyday with much more graceful finesse. Angel...kinda didn't. (I always thought it was cool that Angel's logo of the word ANGEL, was designed so that it said ANGEL right side up or flipped upside down.)

Was that the free concert?
No it was not free. The band had a meet and greet before the show that you had to pay for too.
Was introduced to them with 'The winter song" which got some airplay. Followed them after that. The synth/ guitar/vocal combo was terrific.
