There were earlier glam bands like Bowie, T Rex, Slade, Sweet, etc all from Britain so Angel may have been the first US one... but they were the first to expand glam into hard rock and progressive rock, especially with Greg Giuffria's amazing keyboard work on the first two albums.

I was a big Angel fan in the 70s and was sad to see them breakup in 1981. Although, Sinful was a disappointing record as their last studio effort at the time. Live Without a Net is still one of my top 10 live albums. I am very surprised that they sound this good live. I also sampled some tracks off their latest release, and some songs are really good. I cant believe that Punky is 70 years old here. no way. but I googled when he was born...6th of february 1950. Guess he had lived an healthy life without drugs, alcohol and smoking. most people look halfway dead when they are 70, he still looks like he is in his 30s....taking care of yourself certainly pays off. Punky is the proof of that. and he is a great guitarist too.

Helluva Band was great, too. The first two albums were produced by Derek Lawrence and Jim Sullivan and they knew how to get that huge spacious sound which was perfect for the prog rock influence in the songwriting. After that they went with shorter songs with standard pop/rock arrangements and became a lot less interesting, and the production was horrible.

i just discovered Angel by chance. Blown away by the vocalist, still as good as 45 years ago. the second song reminds me of Zeps Immigrant Song, probably is inspired as well. but Frank easily puts Plant to shame!! even if Plant sang mirrors or Immig song 20 years ago. Amazing underrated Classic Rock band
