  • In this video we throw some aluminum shavings as I first weld up the fabricated intake manifolds before port matching them to the heads for improved flow! I didn't remove a ton of material but rather increased any tight radius and gave a general cleanup on the port surfaces both intake and exhaust which I didn't show. I was careful not to open up the ports so mixture velocity would remain high.
This GL650 engine should be breathing really well with the Mikuni VM34 carbs and stainless exhaust! Keep an eye out for the engine assembly videos to come!

Keep up the good work man! You have inspired me to build a CX500/ 650 with the videos you have produced. Got the 500 frame and 650 engine sitting right next to me in the garage right now. I'm in the process of engineering a 90 deg miter gear drive box that puts a chain sprocket on the left side. Going to install a 2012 Triumph Speed Triple single sided swingarm with 190 tire.

Damn! Are you documenting it anywhere?

@@BrickHouseBuilds Nope, but I was thinking about starting a post on CX500 forums. Right now I'm still gathering the parts to 3D scan, and I have a start to the gearbox design on Solidworks. I will send you a link if i do.

That is a whole lot of work there. Again very well documented and looking forward to the moment you fire up that engine. Must sound awesome!

thanks for the demo of lapping. any reason you dont put all valves in, lap em and then clean all valves and seats at the same time?

I just do one at a time to keep it all organized as well as preventing any from falling out as I rotate the head around to access the different valve directions.

Thats what the air flowing into the heads is saying! 😉

Was there any performance improvement after doing all this work ???

Well there absolutely should be lol. I'm planning to do some more carb tuning this week but even just seat of the pants feel this is much quicker than a stock 650. Granted it has mikunis and the stainless exhaust but thats the big reason I chose to mess with the heads to tale full advantage
