- Part 2 of the GL650 engine assembly for the CX500 build. In this one I install the transmission, inspect and install the oil pump, install the clutch basket and front cover before working on the cylinder heads. I then assemble and install the heads with new seals and gaskets.

You are a credit to being a tutor, no fuss no drama.
I cannot understand why your like numbers aren’t through the roof.
Im getting there I think. It takes a lot of time and work to grow a channel and I'm just under a year into it. Thank you though!
Really nice job with these videos. Pumping me up to take on this project... Low compression on right cylinder.
Well the support is out there so I hope you can get it figured out!
It’s nice to have help.
For sure
You my man....are amazing! I am finally in a place to go after my CX500 build and you have helped so much! Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you Jon
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Excellent presentation. I am currently looking for a CX to Frankenstine, thanks to you vid I will consider one that needs a re-build.
I appreciate that! I have been really trying to make clear and accurate content full of information for everyone. Im glad they are proving helpful
Muy buen trabajo. Limpio y agradable a la vista. Es una gran escuela para mi. Disfruto ver el armado de ese motor.
Un abrazo desde COSTA RICA CENTROAMÉRICA.
Thank you much Roberto!
Yep another awesome video kid, do you ever think about how many people you help with your instructional videos? Many I'm sure, I love that motor mine was awesome back in 1980
Thank ya Mike! I do think about that. Many people reach out via various message platforms and update me on their own projects and let me know how the videos helped them. It means a lot to me!
Hi Mate
Your doing a really nice job on your build. I have watched your earlier videos
Can I make a point on your radiator choice as you will be fitting that soon
You can use the CX650 radiator which I think is a better radiator because it has the OEM fan and the fan sensor on the bottom of the radiator
All you have to do is use the CX650 thermostat housing and cut and angle the brackets that hold the thermostat to angle the outlet to feed the hose under the hanger cross tube and then straight into the radiator
Then make up new radiator side brackets to mount the radiator to the hanger. You look like a pretty good fabricator welder
My CX500 single spine now with CX650 motor is finished it came out really neat and runs really good
Carbby's I used the CX500 carby's and widened them out 12mm
Good luck
It may be scattered in other videos but the combo I chose was actually the stock cx500 radiator as it measured out to be larger core wise. I have my Koso gauge taped into the stock temp sender location by the tstat and am currently working on getting a fan switch into the drain plug hole to run the Bandit 1250 fan I have for it.

You should add a few ad's to your videos to really support the channel food for thought!! Have a great day boss.
Im allowing 1 or 2 in the middle but most would likely complain about them if I did more.
@@BrickHouseBuilds when you start getting more subscribers maybe you should consider doing a merch line to also support the channel and further future builds.
@@briantraynor7892 I have one thats getting ready to go up. I've had hats, stickers, keychains available for a few years but never all at once on a store. My website will have it very soon.
@@BrickHouseBuilds alrighty sounds great, can't wait to see what you have in store
Супер! Молодец! Очень грамотная последовательность. Прекрасно!!!
Сделайте субтитры на Русском языке! Мне тоже скоро предстоит делать ремонт. Хочу больше информации
15:07 Dammit! Now I'll never know where to get that valve spring clamp. Thanks 2020!
Hahahaha! As I said, rare!
Hi loving the videos, even though I have done this job quite a few times it still interesting to watch someone else and their methods. Can you tell me what that copper spray is please. I have used a gasket sealant before but never a copper spray.
The copper spray is exactly that. Its for coating gaskets in higher heat areas. Search copper coat and you will find a lot of info out there. Some say use it everytime while others say never use it so who knows.
My biggest resource for my builds was CMSNL (This is the CX500 listing for others, find your model: www.cmsnl.com/honda-cx500_model232/ ) and most of my stock parts came from my local Honda dealer. Motofaction is an amazing resource for really good in-depth articles for the CX/GL series as you stated.
Also, I see that bloody knuckle, so you know the engine is gonna work great since you've given it the blood offering!
I just checked out your link and it seems like a detailed resource for sure. Thank you for that!
Also, yea it better run well with that offering lol
@@BrickHouseBuilds That site is always my first stop when considering any build, if anything for the teardowns.
Superbly helpful. I have a question which is stumping me and the CX forum at present. At 5:28 the shot show a plate installed immediately above left of the gearbox which going from my engine, is installed with two bolts and which fits into an oil gallery on the back wall of the gearbox housing. I’m struggling to find a reference to this part anywhere to be able to source one. Any idea what it is?
If you check a partsfische like partzilla or cmsnl you can find it. More like a splash guard of sorts.
Yippeeee🕺
Minute 7:49 - I wish it was as simple for me.
I’m on hour 2 and still haven’t been able to line up the teeth …. Turning and turning …. I’ll just keep playing with it, without forcing it.
The two rows of teeth are spring loaded to eliminate gear lash. You have to line them up by hand as you overcome the spring and then slide it in
@@BrickHouseBuilds BJ I can’t thank you enough mate.
I didn’t know they were spring to each other, and I didn’t see this in the manual either …. I got it seated in a minute after this. Thank you!
@@daviddesotomayor9975 Happy to hear you got it sorted! 🤘🤘
Did you replace the piston rings and rod bearings? If so where did you buy em from?
I replaced the rings but the bearings were luckily within spec so I reused them. I looked for new ones but I was not able to find any. The rings should be linked in my descriptions on one of the rebuild videos
Hey, Could you advise what sealant (these cooper color) do you use on heads gasket? Are you using it also for another gaskets to be sure that they seal well? Thanks!
The spray coating is simply called copper coat gasket sealant. Its on the shelf at any parts store. Some say use it while others say its not needed and I really can't give solid info on it just yet. Its really only used for head gaskets and possibly other high temp scenarios.
Permatex 80697 is the exact number
Where did you find the torque specs for the bolts on the case. I have a Clymer Manual and they don't say there.
I honestly don't remember. I'm sure they are listed in a forum thread somewhere or even on motofaction.org
Did you re-use the head bolts or buy new ones? If you bought new ones where at?
I reused them
HELP! Do you have a video on transmission rebuild as when i slid mine out it fell to pieces so i just have a box full of bits!
No I don't. Do you have a service manual? Thats step one when you buy any motorcycle. It shows every gear, bushing, nut, seal, etc in its correct order. You can find downloads on the CX forum or CX facebook pages. I always buy a Clymer and the one for the CX/GL bikes is the M335
@@BrickHouseBuilds yeah I bought a Haynes manual and its crap! 🤣
I find torquing bolts to be nerve racking. Waiting for the click and hoping to not strip a bolt. The tension is real.
Same here. I actually prefer an old school pointer type torque wrench to watch it creep up
@@BrickHouseBuilds I am building a CX650 right now and these videos help with questions and upgrades I have implemented on my project. Love the channel.
I have teh exact same engine and I dont know where to look for parts here i Phoenix. Any ideas?
You will be looking online only. I always link my sources as well in the description. The cx forums, motofaction.org, cmsnl, partzilla, ebay and more are great sources
?? I can't find the link for the stainless bolts ??
alloyboltz.com/ the eBay listing link isn't working. I'll update the description
@@BrickHouseBuilds Tnx!!
That chip on your left finger must have hurt
Ha! Yea, those machined case edges will get you. My left hand has multiple wittness marks
i would have used a genuine mechanical seal to be honest
Where would you get one? They don't exist
If you have seen these before I don't know but perhaps an idea for you: www.scheffersengineering.com/produktside/cx500-cnc-milled-valve-cover
I've seen them yes
