CX500 Tracker - Electric Fan Conversion PT1! - EP 25

- In this video I get a new electric fan mounted up on the CX500 build. This is a unique combo since I am using a GL650 engine with the CX500 radiator. The fan I went with is a 2007 Bandit 1250 which is a full 7.5 inches in diameter. It draws a high current at 13.xx amps during startup but 6.2 when running. I plan to incorporate some type of soft start with the fan to lessen that amp spike so you will see that when we get to that point. If you have any PWM (pulse width modulation) soft start ideas let me have them!

another great video, looking forward to the rest.
Excellent work!!!
That's crazy, well done man!
Thank you!
Great job on the fan mod!
I was going to use the Ducati fan on mine, ended up buying the CBR600RR fan (keep'n it all Honda!). Got all the stuff and ended up staying with stock fan up here in Idaho. We did use the stuff to do the conversion on my buddy's CX500 and it works great. Tons of good info on CX500Forum.
Yea I love the forum but a lot of the posts are like "will let everyone know how it does" and they never do. I think its my car background that makes me want the biggest fan possible here. Again it may end up being that I use the Ducati fan in the end.
@@BrickHouseBuilds Yeah, there are a lot of drop offs on a good portion of the mid-builds. I think your fan will be just fine. Like I said, I got all of the stuff to do an eFan conversion on my CX, but ended up staying with the stock fan (new of course) and the bike's been fine.
@@BrickHouseBuilds oh, and even though I follow you on Insta, for some reason your posts haven't been appearing in my feed. You'll see a lot of likes from me today as I scrolled through and saw a lot has been missed.
@@AdamMcNutt my insta is weird sometimes too with what it shows. There are many pages I miss posts on daily.
Looks good
I know this video was last March but Im just catching up. You certainly put a lot of effort into the fan. I put a 650 engine in a 500 frame and ran it for a year without any fan. Never a problem but then again I live in Ireland where we do not get excessive temperatures. When the bike is moving it never gets hot and I avoid towns and city's. Having moved the same engine to a different build I only recently put a 4" fan (quad bike) on the inside of the rad. I have a manual switch and wired direct to battery. If the temp starts rising in traffic I throw the switch. However I expect never to use it.
I also ran a CX500 custom for years without the cam fan blade. Never an issue. These engines run cool.
Thats been my opposite experience here as we have stop and go traffic and really hot seasons. I did come up with a great way to control this and it won't likely need to run at full kill. We will see. Id just rather have more than enough fan vs too little. Thats the fun in making something new.
@@BrickHouseBuilds That is the fun indeed and a great job you are doing. Still catching up on your other videos :)
When I first started thinking about was the shaft on the engine itself that would rub on the fan motor, but I'll shut up and watch and I really was wondering why you didn't use the Honda part like you showed us a bit ago, but what you built came out awesome. Oh that would be on the 500
Yea the 500s had the mechanical fan with long camshaft snout while the 650s had an electric fan from the factory. The stock fan was no good and I wanted to find a larger e-fan to replace it. I always try to find new parts to use so this was just an exercise in that.
Good day Sir. Can you please assist with a link to where I could look up your fan motor speed controller? Keep 'em coming mate. Cheers, Joe
Hey Joe, this video has a link which may work but I know the manufacturers website is limited right now as they are making updates. It is the "becky" unit from NUUT.CA. czcams.com/video/R1O4dJKJZgo/video.html
Also, this is an updated video on the cooling system czcams.com/video/p73hOhvYcnA/video.html
Cheers JB, much appreciated.
"BJ", sorry mate. LOL!!
@@joeheydenrych1240 hahaha no worries!
