  • CX500 Electric Fan Conversion With Yamaha R1 Fan! This CX500 e-fan conversion is not my first and I am always looking for good fan options. This swap uses a fan found on a 1998-2002 Yamaha R1 which is just over 8 inches in diameter allowing max coverage of the CX500 radiator. This fan looks very promising in its size, depth, current draw, and mounting design. Watch as I fit it to the stock radiator shroud for a clean install!
    The fan used is part number 4XV-12405-00-00

    Yes this does require cutting the camshaft for necessary clearance. Here is a video where I modified mine along with the tach drive:

    For those that still want to keep their camshaft and not shorten it, an 09-12 Honda CBR600RR fan works great. I've done the conversion for a few friends. I, admittedly, still run a stock setup on mine (new fan of course). Great job, man!

    Thankfully our climate over here in the green place is never very hot. I have a 500 and a 650 engine running with manually switched 4" fans from a quad bike. I very rarely use them. Then again I very rarely sit in traffic. Nice job on the fabrication BJ.

      Thanks Mike! They aren't needed MOST of the time but of course when you need them you REALLY need them. It does get very hot here in the Midwest and we do have a lot of traffic so cooling capability is important

    Always wanted to build a little v drive boat utilising a CX engine! Grunty & simple! Keep it's own cooling system with improved fan.

    Good clean install. I need to do the same on my GL400 cafe. It did get hot while on the slow ride when I did DGR a few years back, so a very worthwhile upgrade from the stock mechanical fan.

      Thank you! It's strange how the CX world approaches an electric fan conversion as this is controversial over on the facebook pages for some reason. People say their bikes never get hot with the stock fan but that has never been the case for me or customers.

    Very slick conversion and a great idea since it’ll spend some time off-road. Makes perfect sense as well as free up some of that engine drag. I bet throttle response is a little snappier maybe? The caps looks great man and thanks for the shoutout! 🙌🏻👍🏼

      Yea the low speed stuff always tests the cooling systems so this gives greater control! I appreciate the caps. I ordered a bunch of Furick cups and stubby gas lense yesterday so I can slim the torch down like I've wanted. The back caps were the push I needed

      @@BrickHouseBuilds you won’t regret it! The small lens stuff and furick cups will have you asking..”why did I wait so long?!”

    Is there any significant benefit to adding an electric fan to an older air cooled bike?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  Před 2 lety

      No that would just be overly complicated IMO. The best thing to do is just avoid long periods of idle in hot weather and keep fresh oil in them.
