  • The second, shorter duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi vs Darth Maul, taken from a 4K HDR sample of the extended Phantom Menace cut.
    A 4K HDR sample from my Extended Star Wars Episode I Cut, simply titled "The Phantom Menace - Extended Edition". As of today, but cuts have now been updated to a new 2.0 version, featuring several minor tweaks in audio, updates to the HDR color timing (especially for Episode I), tweaks to transitions, and brand new A.I. upscales of many of the deleted scenes. A total of 7 deleted scenes have been restored in the film.
    Note: The trimmed down version of this duel is only for the youtube upload. The version scene in the film cut itself won't be intercut in this same way.
    Both of my Extended Episode I and II cuts are available in both 4K HDR and 1080p SDR, along with my other edits like the 4.5 hour Revenge of the Sith - The Siege of Mandaore Supercut the, Star Wars Episode IV - The Rogue Cut, and many more!

    Where did lightsaber fights like this go, I miss these kinds of well choreographed fast paced fight scenes, and I love that there is not even a word of dialogue, the looks on their faces are enough to tell the audience that they want to destroy one another, and as soon as those walls give way they do not hesitate to get right back into the fight, and they go at each other with full speed and fury, making things all the more intense, I'll say this right now, THE PHANTOM MENACE is UNDERRATED!!!

    • @Aijendo

      He was only fucked because the script told him to, and all Skywalker Story would`nt happended. In reality both would had no chance against Ray Park (Darth Maul) its pretty hard to find a cineastic solution that a padawan beats a master. @@Aijendo to be honest, I really don't think any of the Jedi were actually as skilled as the Sith lords. Notice how Obi lost so quickly to Dooku and how Anakin was the one to beat him? Anakin was the chosen one after all, and became a Sith lord himself. Obi only won this fight because Maul was feeling a little too full of himself. And I do honestly believe that Palpatine let Windu win the fight because he wanted Anakin to see him down, not fighting someone who is supposed to be his friend.

      @notiitans Před měsícem

      @@clit_niblr0375 I mean all of this is just made up in a writers head so to say "Maul lost because it was in the script" that isn't wrong. But the depth to the story in the novels is that Maul used anger and aggression to fuel his dark side energy and power, and he felt very angry that Qui-Gon meditated during their break instead of keeping his guard up. Like Maul took that as a personal insult. Then after defeating Qui-Gon with what he considered a bit of a cheap move, he thought little of Obi-Wan. When Obi-Wan was able to land a strike and a kick, it really pissed Maul off and so as he was standing over Obi-Wan, Maul let his anger overtake him and missed that there was still another light saber in play. He felt he won and couldn't be beat and was reveling in his victory. That slip gave Obi-Wan the window he needed to win. Obi-Wan also was fueled a bit extra by his rage that his master was just butchered by Maul and cut Maul in half, which is not the Jedi way. Obi-Wan didn't get in trouble over this as the fact that there were Sith still around was the focus of the Jedi not how Obi-Wan survived. This all also plays into the fact that Obi-Wan is granted the rank of Master without having to go thru the trials. When Anikan is denied the rank of Master and falls to the dark side, he decides he is going to beat Obi-Wan with Obi-Wans own move. The move that made Obi-Wan the Jedi to watch, the move that Obi-Wan used to defeat Maul. Anikan in his arrogance tried to do what Obi-Wan did. Only Obi-Wan was ready, and cut 3 limbs off. Yes it's what is written in the story, so it's what is in the script, but so much more depth to it.

He was able to keep up with him for a moment thanks to his rage, but still lost the duel because Maul is objectively superior. Qui gon's mistake was overexerting, its hard to see in the fight, but in canon he actually got physically tired as his lightsaber style is heavily demanding of him physically, as you can see he stops taking smaller openings towards the end of his life. the laser chambers were difficult to exert a 2 person advantage in, so its hard to say which would have been better. he definitely shouldve met up with obi wan and tried to keep a 2 person advantage.

    Fun fact, Ray Park, the actor for Darth Maul was an actual martial artist and gymnast. You can tell by how he’s more agile than McGregor and Neeson and his movements with the lightsaber come off as very smooth and natural. He’s also shorter than both Neeson and McGregor, with his height being 5’9. A lot of the best gymnasts and acrobats tend to be shorter, and there’s a reason why.
    Being shorter actually helps in those fields because it’s easier to move and spin your body with a compact build. Shorter people also tend to have better balance because their center of gravity (which is usually around the abdomen), is lower to the ground, and the lower the center of gravity is to the base of support, the better the balance will be.

      But you have also remember the context on sequel movies, as I think it would've been bad move for production team to try to outdo these prequel fight scenes, because those "force-xenas" were complete novices as Jedis, not even on padawan stage. Only why could be able to lightsaber as ones should've been Kylo and Luke, as they actually did.

    Even at x 1.25 playback speed it looks good and much more intense. The acrobatics were mostly fine and weren't too fast and the speed of the swings are closer to what an actual fight would be. Even their clothes and Obi-wan's hair looks like their moving at the speed they should be. Makes me think that was the original speed the duel took place. Well besides the part where Obi-wan is hanging but the part where he jumps is much more believable at 1.25 speed since it looks like Maul had less than a split second before being bisected.

    Many viewers and fans of Star Wars as well the characters in the film series in general including Darth Sidious who replaced Darth Maul with the Jedi Master (Also Qui-Gon Jinn, Maul’s victim’s master) Count Dooku a.k.a. Darth Tyrannus in Attack of the Clones (2002) as his Sith apprentice after Maul’s presumed death before Anakin killed Dooku and replaced him as Sidious’s third Sith apprentice Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith (2005) assumed that Darth Maul perished after being cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi as it was an injury too fatal for him to survive but Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season Four which aired from 2011 to 2012 and aired twelve years after The Phantom Menace (1999) plus some comics reveal that to be false as Maul survived being cut in half by Obi-Wan through his hatred towards him and Sith force abilities and used the force to levitate the top half of himself into a trash container while the other half and his legs were lost and the trash container was transported to the trash planet of Lotho Minor and Maul lived in exile on the plant for a decade even into the Clone Wars creating cybernetic spider legs for himself out of metal and trash and slowly losing his memories (With only Mother Talzin a nightsister and his mother knowing his survival.) due to his insanity with his horns also growing in size until his brother Savage Opress also Count Dooku’s one-time Sith apprentice came to rescue him at the end of the fourth season of the Clone Wars and he brought Maul back to Dathomir and Mother Talzin using her magic and force abilities restored all his memories, removed his insanity and fixed his skin and shrank his horns to their original size and gave him new cybernetic legs made out of the parts of battle droids leftover from the Battle of Dathomir. Darth Maul and Savage Opress in the fifth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars would then go on a rampage and trek across the galaxy to have revenge on Obi-Wan for being responsible for Maul’s injuries and losing his first set of legs and Darth Sidious for leaving him for dead on Naboo and Count Dooku for replacing him as Sidious’s new apprentice while also meeting the Death Watch Mandalorians and founding the Shadow Collective and becoming rulers of Mandalore and owners of the DarkSaber in Pre Vizsla's absence after losing a battle to Maul. And.. you probably know the rest. If not finish Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2020) and watch Star Wars: Rebels (2014-2018) including the Season Two Finale (Twilight of the Apprentice) and a few episodes of Season Three including "Holocorns of Fate", "Visions and Voices" and "Twin Suns" (Where Maul dies for real this time after being killed by Obi-Wan for real this time finally ending the thirty year conflict between Obi-Wan and Maul that started in The Phantom Menance (1999) and ended at the end of the third season of Star Wars Rebels (2014-2018) to learn the rest of Darth Maul's story after the events of The Phantom Meance (1999) as well as Solo (2018).

      Doesn't the force allow them to kind of feel/anticipate their opponents movements to a certain degree? Maybe Maul just knew he wouldn't strike there, or if he did he was ready to block with the back side of his saber or something

    • @TheNerdForAllSeasons
      @TheNerdForAllSeasons Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@jordanvespa720 There's no way he would ever have gotten the back half around before Obi Wan just stabs him. It was a choreographed fight and they wanted Obi Wan to get the behind the back block when Maul spins back. Also, both of them have the same minor prescient ability so it would be a wash.
      Once Maul goes for the big decapitation swing and over commits, Obi Wan can literally step forward inside any possible arc from Maul and just stab him. It's the biggest opening you'll ever get from an opponent short of literally being empty handed. Arms are moving away from you, weapon on the wrong side, entire torso open. I don't even practice any sort of martial arts and I could kill Maul from there.
