The rain vaporizing on the lightsabers into steam streaks is so bad ass that I can't believe it never made it into any of the movies
Which is odd, considering Attack of the Clones had Obi-wan fighting Jango Fett on Kamino.

@@nakeysnakey6220 I don't remember visible steam coming off the lightsaber at any point. Which is my point

Real shit
You can see Anakins fighting style cycle through Obi Wan in the beginning. With swift, fluid stikes. In the end, it's Vader, with powerful lunges and less defense. Man this show is a masterpiece
And so defensive, just like your Soresu master.
Less defense? he is defending way better and not just that, his counter attacks!
He’s just an unstoppable force after the face off it was over for him he wanted her bad
He ignored everything and just came after her and he will never stop
Tht all comes with a good defense sometimes it’s his powerful offense that helps him stay alive
He also jumped over her while she had the high ground a throw forward to the duel with obi wan
No wonder anakin was so confident
Anakin's style was mainly offensive, supported with solid defence to immediately switch into counterattack. He's also built like a tank. Tall (188 cm, though Hayden is closer to 183 cm) and muscular due to being a longtime warrior.
@@masterexploder9668 yeah to sum up his style is an counter puncher in terms of fighting. He crates opening with strikes to then set up the counter a very aggressive style to counter punching
Popular real life guys that kinda do that are guys like Conor mcgregor, Crawford in boxing and sometimes Canelo
To counter you need defense but it’s different to the way obi wan uses it
6:26 Anakin tanking a force push is still one of the most badass things I’ve seen in a Star Wars fight, I absolutely love this series, glad I got the DVDs.
I figure it’s the same principle as Vader blocking Obi-Wan’s Force push on Mustafar, except Anakin was definitively stronger than Ventress and didn’t need to concentrate nearly as much to shield himself.
This is something I haven’t seen before quite impressive to break though it
Agreed. This Clone Wars series is awesome. I just wish they explained how Ventress got off Yavin 4 if Anakin took her ship and the other ships were destroyed.

Genndy Tartakovsky, the genius who created Samurai Jack made this cartoon. His art style is perfect for drama, action and stunning environments. It was such a perfect fit for Star Wars.
@Council of Ricks
I was wondering why this looked so similar to Samurai Jack.
He made the Dexter's Laboratory too hehe.
It's about as subtle as chicken pox, but it more than makes up for it with how beautifully unique it is. Almost every scene in Samurai Jack is museum-worthy.
I saw the same, especially the facial features and environment
Thank you captain obvious. We hadn't noticed.🙄
What I love the most about this duel is how minimalistic it is. No dialogue. No witty batter. Just an expertly crafted fight. To me, I always interpreted Anakin’s rage coming from both the Dark Side and the Clone Troopers who were murdered. I will never forget that scream. Never.
YES. You put into words what makes Tartovsky’s style so artful and dramatic. No dialogue interrupting the fight. Pure tension, action.
Nah bro that rage was against the counsel and how they tried to control him and not understand the chosen one
And r4
true, another hint at the dark side is he wielding a red saber as well, very dramatic how he didn't simply grab it, but slowly levitates it ignited with it's red color, and picks it up with his robotic hand, this scene, this entire fight is very well done.
No need to speak, just let the actors, or in this case the artists show emotion. So simple and yet they just tell us everything now.

1:46 Ventress: "Your fall will be my ascension to the Sith."
The irony is that as the Clone War progressed, Ventress was pulled back from the dark into the light (or at least neutral), while Anakin was pulled from the light into the dark, and actually became a Sith. Poetic.
At the end of her life Ventress was pulled back to the light after giving her life to save Quinlan Vos, showing that always was good in her
@@cujohjosefumi1252I knew there was good in her since she showed compassion for her sisters and saved Obi Wan trom Maul

Despite the jokes of him in the multi media clone wars, anakin is a developed character who over the course of the war from various trials caused him to fall and it took two years and with heavy help from obi-wan for the council to finally (although reluctantly) promote anakin to a knight and stop treating him like a child.
It was only after that time from 3-4 years of fighting that he went from being the hero of the republic (and he did eventually act like how he does in TCW) for him to start regressing back into the angry person we saw him in AOTC and the early clone wars.
Plus anakain had a greater ordeal of events that caused him to fall in the EU, learning how to stop the dark reaper from ulic qel droma, his duel with ventress, the battle of jabim and many other events all culminated into what happened in revenge of the sith.

well it's obi-wans so he has to take care of him
The rain starting in the pre-duel stare off is one of the most badass animation I've ever seen
That scream at the end is so visceral. It says everything without saying anything. To me, it conveys "What have I done? I've won, but at what cost?" That scream has anger, guilt, shame, pain and many more undescribable feelings in it. That moment really sells Anakin's fall to the dark side. Kudos to the voice actor for nailing that scene!
Is it REALLY 'turning to the Dark side' if the person he unleashed his wrath on DESERVED it? He had been forced to hold back a LOT of negative emotions over his years with the Jedi order and Asaaj brought it to the surface
If anything it cements the failure of the Order's teachings
@@jeremyallen5974It isn't that he killed her, it's more that Anakin took the wrong path by being so wrathful.
A Jedi needs to be aware of the situation around them and fight for the most moral and ethical outcome but needs to be detached about the evil they face. Anakin wasn’t detached - he let his rage and frustration to drive his attack. It doesn’t matter if he could have reached the same result without using his anger - he did and that is not the Jedi way.

7:24 A perfect nod to the ending of Vader's battle with Luke in ROTJ. All semblance of technique or discipline is gone as he just hacks away furiously, driven only by pure rage and aggression. But unlike Luke, who was able to stop himself and see what he was becoming before being driven over the edge, Anakin lets the Dark Side fully take over as he sends Ventress plummeting to her (presumed) death. It's a rather ironic end for Ventress, as she sought to embrace the Dark Side and learn the ways of the Sith, but in attacking Anakin, she unwittingly unleashed a far more terrifying force (no pun intended) that she was completely unprepared for, and who wielded the Dark Side far better than her just by letting his emotions get the best of him. She ultimately served to be just another domino to fall that led to Anakin's inevitable fall to become Vader. Tartakovsky will forever be the author of the *_true_* Clone Wars, for my money.
Man this is the comment I was looking for. Great Luke reference and great thoughts on how Ventress contributed to Anakin's fall.
Also, great writing.
I love how lightsaber reacts to the rain!
Who doesn't?!
For some reason it made me slightly cringe, making me think how a saber reacts to blood when it strikes an enemy
@@christophersanchez7731 now I have imagined this as well and it makes it BETTER! When someone gets stabbed slowly you can imagine them immediately starting to bleed and all the blood evaporating on the blade inside their body, with the release cauterizing the wound. Makes the impaling much more gruesome
I like rain. It's wet and smooth and it gets everywhere.
She had the high ground and still lost.. no wonder Anny thought he could take Obi.
Zing.
She didn’t know how to use it unlike obi wan
Obi-Wan seriously knows how to trick the enemy. Here, the floor wasn't lava
😂
He used the same flip move too
The reason this show works so well is because Genndy Tartakovsky (creator of Samurai Jack and Primal) intentionally focuses on the emotions of a show and not the dialogue. I believe this is because he moved to America from another country and was uncomfortable speaking the language initially. The main knock against Star Wars is usually the conversations and dialogue (George is not the best at writing conversations). So what you get is amazing animation and action that focuses on the emotional aspects of Star Wars, which are what have kept people in love with the story for decades. We were truly lucky to get this series, probably was before its time.
These cartoons leading up to episode 3 were the highlight of my youth. The excitement each week was unreal. To me, these will always be what is canonical between episodes 2 and 3.

WHY HAVE I NEVER SEEN THIS CARTOON?
This was gorgeous. This was a Star Wars fight. The cuts, the edits, the hold of images, the breathing, the scenery, THE VADER MOMENT.
This was absolutely fantastic!
When it originally aired, it was sort of snuck out there, in between regularly scheduled cartoons, and never really received a huge hype. Oh it's been praised and well received, and fans love it, but it's kind of just been around rather than hugely talked about and hyped. You almost have to know of its existence already to know to look for it.
Because its not on Hulu, Netflix or Amazon Prime and DvD production was cancelled in 2004 - the only way to see this is to own the DvD or watch it from online - that and it was also originally a series that had 9-11 episodes and once the series was cancelled most people just fused all the Episodes into a movie - personally i love the way they display the Clones in this series much more than the 2008 Clone Wars
90s residue
Because you were born too late
Salazar Ravenclaw It wasnt cancelled tho? It ends right where episode III begins, as it was meant to.
Genndy Tartakovsky has always been great at punctuating action and violence with moments of calm or tension. I liked the detail of the rain hitting the lightsaber and evaporating, with increasing steam when it starts raining harder.
This and the two Lucas trilogies will always be my head canon. I feel like Anakin’s fall to the dark side is way less plausible in the 2008 clone wars. I feel like this battle and s2 of clone wars does a much better job of bridging the gap between episode II & III, showing Anakin’s growing power and his desire to protect those around him. As his power grows, it grows out of control (as we see in the cave vision in s2!!!) For me, the 2008 clone wars Anakin feels like the light-side alternate history version, while this feels like a believable lead-up to Revenge of the Sith. Hats off to Tartakovsky.
Same. 6 films + this clone wars series (Rogue One could be considered a decent supplement "if needed" to gap the trilogies) is what I believe to be the full Star Wars story before the creativity ran out and milking process started (and will no doubt continue for many years to come). I am satisfied. I do not need more :)

I have never actually seen the old clone wars cartoon. This is astounding. The choreography of the lightsaber battle. Everything looks like it was well thought out and even the use of the force was great. It would absolutely make sense that a force push depending on the strength of the push could be barged through as it isn't an unstoppable force just a force measured by the strength of user using it. Really shows off how the "Shiny and New" isn't always good, especially when it concerns current day disney. This is on a level that producers over their only wished they could achieve.

We totally should have given the series to Tartakovsky. He'd know what to do with it.
I hate to be that guy I would have to argue that the 2008 show takes place before this, as this leads right up to the 3rd movie
I like how different this is from normal fight scenes, instead of pointless dialog, it was pure silence as they both read each other and we could hear each little thing happening in the fight, from the sound of the bugs, the humming of the sabers, the droplets of rain, to even the slight sounds of thunder from afar, it was all eloquently conveyed to flow along with what we were seeing instead of polluting it with useless banter and chit chat.
I wish this type of fight scene would have spread out to other animators, but it only stuck with Tartakovsky.
From 5:44 until the end, anyone else ever get the same vibes from when Vader fought Luke in Empire Strikes back during the third encounter. The darkness, the ambush, and most importantly: the way the saber is being held. Whenever Anakin/Vader is mega pissed and fighting, he swings his lightsaber less like a sword and more like a savage baseball bat. Their scheme is what made everything happen: the clone production, the fall of the previous chancellor, entry of Palpatine into the Senate and then chancellor seat, and even the very creation of the "chosen one."
Ronbo Fett probably. Anakin was the single strongest Force wielder ever.
No exception.
Assaj: I finally disarmed him I got this
**anakin’s music starts playing**
Assaj: ah shit......
I love how you can see the surprise is ventures's face when anakin launched the piller back at her with ease, it shows just how much more powerful he is compared to other force users
Dude... he reflects the pillar back into her smashing her AND dragging her with it up the staircase.
DAM 😮
Paradisio84 immediately after fucking SHOULDER CHARGING STRAIGHT THROUGH A MF FORCE PUSH. What a badass
@Yu Tubaru It was much stranger in the comics because in the fight where he received his scars, Anakin tied Ventress up in live wires using the force and then dropped her from the top of the Coruscant skies while she begged for mercy. Then she reappears again as a cyborg.

The way duel of the fates kicks in as soon as the light of the red lightsaber shines on his face is so beautifully done. It perfectly encompasses the fact that this is no longer Anakin Skywalker, the jedi, this is a man twisted by rage, ready to kill.
Personally, I feel like that this wasn't Anakin's "evil" side, it was his avenging of his clone troopers, his good friend the droid, and his way of correcting the mistake he made by going to Yavin. In other words, I think that it was righteous fury.
On the contrary, Anaking is everything. The Jedi are in power, the SIth are not. Then why have Anakin around to tip the scale towards the sith but the Jedi in their non existent wisedom followed a prophecy regardless.
He used his rage to win the fight, which is literally what "going to the dark side" is. If you think he didn't do anything wrong you wouldn't be a very good Jedi
@@Tonatheos Being a what would be considered a good Jedi at the time of the Clone Wars isn't exactly being a great person
@@pokest45-pz52 Obi-Wan and several other Jedi like Yoda and Mace did not give into their anger during the Clone Wars. Obi-Wan came close during the Darth Maul arc but he still resisted
The entire point of the Jedi is to restrain your emotions and detach yourself from strong feelings because basing your power off your emotions was seen as a weakness to them because it makes you unstable, which is true. Anakin did the exact opposite; he learned that he could win fights when he gave into his anger and that was a slippery slope that led him to turn against the light. And while the dark side might be more powerful, you don't need it to win a fight, so the Jedi just using the dark side as essentially cheating and breaking the rules. You can say what you want about how the Jedi might not have been the best people during the Clone Wars, but they still never give into their rage and emotions. Anakin and Qui-Gon were the only Jedi who really defied the code
@@Tonatheos Unsurprisingly, training children to become robotic sociopaths does not benefit their mental stability, and by extension, their ability to manage and deal with emotions in a healthy way

I love the way the rain hits the lightsabers and turns to steam. An effect they didn’t do in the last Jedi or attack of the clones. This cartoon series paid more attention to detail than the movies.
Czordas Yeah that’s kinda cool, I never thought about before I saw this.
Usually animations pays more attention to detail than live action
This cartoon did such a great job at establishing the lethality of the Clone Wars villains. Ventress taking out an entire squad of troopers without even touching them is just awesome.
I noticed in one of the recent Mandalorian episodes that Anakin Skywalker was referred to as the Enforcer for the Jedi Order. Some may think that reference out of place, but the more I think on it, the more that I find it a perfect description for Anakin's role in the Jedi Order.
he and mace windu were absolutely the most brutal fighters
Ventress: It's over, Jedi! I have the high ground.
Skywalker: You underestimate my power!
Ventress: Don't try it.
(Two minutes later..)
Ventress: But...but...I had the high ground...
Skywalker: Sure, you did.
Fuck. you made this joke first..
Ventress thought the high ground was her ally, but Obi Wan was born in it, molded by it. Obi Wan didn't see the low ground until he was a man but by then it was nothing but blinding
There is a difference between being in higher ground, and having THE High Ground. Only one Jedi could master the old arts of the High Ground, that's why everybody who isn't him loses...
High Ground rules only work for Jedi and other good guys. Darth Maul and General Grievous tried to use it, and they were either killed or gravely wounded.
Lance Curry it works for them too, but Obi Wan is THE master of it. You can’t use his own trick against him. Anakin is more skilled in it than most due to being Obi Wans student (as you can see here when he defeats Ventress despite her having the high ground) but even he could not defeat the high ground master.
I’ve never seen someone shoulder change through a force push before. That’s seriously badass. 6:25

Simple.
Be built like a brick and have stonger force prowess.
@@ashrist621 Force pushes are like a physical force impacting you. Anakin simply charged through it. Conceding Asajj is strong enough to lift heavy stone pillars and boulders and literally blow up space ships with her force prowess, it really shows how much of a tank Anakin is
One of the best parts of the Original Clone Wars. This was so well made. This fight works so well, little to no dialogue, the characters and the fight is all you need. Great score too
7:15 do you know how cold of a 🥷 you gotta be to do that? Still gives me chills to this day
The best memory was watching this when it first aired on Cartoon Network with my brother, but extremely frustrating because each episode was literally four minutes long 😅
I still prefer the 2nd clone wars show
@TM Films That opinion is subjective.
@TM Films They're both good but determining which is better overall is just a subjective opinion. The animation and the dark atmosphere in the original Clone Wars is better, but the story and character development is better in the 2008 Clone Wars
Kevin Hillary me too.
@TM Films I'm guessing you never watched past season 1
I love how after we see all the Clone Troopers getting completely wrecked, it cuts to Anakin saying, “something’s not right”
Carlos Gallego The one thing I find weird about this show is that in some episodes Clones are the most badass dudes ever and in others “something’s not right “
Joel Hornburg to be fair, for all we know, all that took place in less than a minute. and no one really made a sound that was noticed until the last trooper. seriously, look at how fast it happens. they all should've died by whiplash alone
The absolute disrespect in the way he just nonchalantly tosses her saber into the canyon when he's done, like he's saying she wasn't even worth the time and energy fighting with.
That was a peak Vader thing to do right there.
I feel so bad for the people who've only ever seen '08 clone wars, they're missing out on all of the best Ventress and Grievous
Don't forget the ones who haven't checked out the CW Multimedia Project works, especially the Republic comics and Clone Wars Adventures.
And the Arc Troopers.
Lmao Ventress is way better in the Clive wars 08

This duel is far superior to any duel in that cgi show. And actually the best duel in all of modern star wars media, excluding probably maul vs. Obi/qui gon (thats number #1 of couse). Bottom line is this art style in general is leaps amd bounds better than the CGI and will always be. A shame people will never see this due to trash Disney
@@royfokerpoker1802 anakin vs obi wan and yoda vs palpat8ne are also both better than this
I like how the rain actually turns to vapour on the lightsabers
That effect was first used in Jedi Outcast.
I always wonder why the lightsabers didn't have that kind of effect under the water in "The Clone Wars" episodes.
Best Anime shorts ever made.... these were so good. Obi Wans fights with that general, Mace Windoos fights with the droids, the episode where Grievious kills a squad of Jedi...are my favorite episodes.
In case you're interested, that commander's name was Durge. He's a Gen'Dai bounty hunter who lived for thousands of years.

This is so much better than anything Disney/Star Wars could possibly shit out.

Yes. I also am not a fan of 08 clonewars lightsabers. They look too thin and pointy. Lol
@Tom Ffrench yeah I did not care for their animation at all. Too much like play-dough. Granted at least the story in Rebels at least overarches into a coherant story. But still
You might need to get your eyes checked.
exactly. Unlike the cartoony back-and-forth cuts in 2008 Clone Wars and Rebels
holy fucking shit, i was searching for years to find this. the most incredible fighting scene in a 2D cartoon in like forever, you could literally feel the pain and agony anakin was going thru when he completely obliterated asajj at the end.
perfect.
The only reason Ventress was dispatched to Yavin 4 was an attempts to push Anakin to his limits, unknowingly furthering his gradual descent into the dark side. A means to an end. Sideous had basically sent Asajj to her death.
7:43 That scream... so haunting. I feel that anyone can relate to being absolutely angry and just wanting to scream.

Despite her character has been less developed in comparison to the 3D series, I think I prefer this version better. The moment when Asajj seems to realize too late she was just a pawn to draw Anakin further toward the dark side and not Dooku’s apprentice as they made her believe... It’s perfect as it is.
BlackDragon-kin it has the same development, but in less screen time, you can see his relations with Obi-Wan going from bashing to true appreciation at the end, which led him to RoTS
BlackDragon-kin The Karen Traviss clone wars novel did the best job of developing Assaj's character in my opinion.
It's only a single novel. But it gives tremendous insight into her thoughts and emotions. More so than the entire series.
BlackDragon-kin the Clone Wars multimedia project did a far better job asajj Ventress character TCW turned what was once a badass character into a sjw cosplaying as asajj Ventress then again she's not the only character TCW ruined it also ruined General Grievous, Quinlan VOS and barriss offee.
Honestly liked her more in this tbh, idk why
BlackDragon-kin I like the ways she’s presented; she appears more threatening, and fights more aggressive!
The force feels so natural and powerful in this series.
Gotta love the artistic touch of the steam coming from the lightsabers in the rain

Yoda's words are meaningless, don't quote htem.
If these words had value, then how did the sith manage to defeat them?? Oh right, patience that was built up throughout the three prequel films then an act of urgency in the third film. The sith ultimately won because the Jedi lacked in their duties and didn't bother to understand the sith of their time were far smarter than the sith of old.
I like how, even before Anakin gets angry, it's clear that he's actually the better lightsaber fighter while Ventress is the more skilled telekinetic. Very fitting for the difference in training between a Jedi and a Nightsister.
No, Nightsisters and Ventress were not associated back in the day. She was a Rattatakki. Think more of the difference of a Jedi Knight and a Sith Assassin
Makes me wonder how Dooku thought she was the more powerful fighter
@@Alrokako if you meant overall the better fighter dooku probably believed being good in the force is better than being a good lightsaber duelists as dooku first tries using force abilities on yoda until he saw it was no use so they resort to lightsaber dueling you can only be so good at using a lightsaber but the force has endless possibilities
She just wasn't better telekineticly. She threw a pillar at him, he then effortlessly smashed her into the stairs with it, then he tanked a force push and hit her with one of his own. Anakin is far superior to ventress.
@@Vilisnerson he’s superior to her, but saying “far superior” is biased and wrong, someone far superior to her would be Mace or yoda, not Anakin.
6:58 this honestly now fit so well with the Obi wan show flashback of pandawan Anakin training with obi wan even after he lost his lightsaber he still pushed through really learning his lesson even if your weapons is gone the fight isn’t over
The opening scene perfectly illustrates how OP AF Force Users are against normal people! Those were highly trained and skilled soldiers were effortlessly got toyed with without her even touching them. Jedi typically don’t use the Force like that but Dark Siders have no qualms and in fact embrace it. I think in general Dark Siders are stronger than Light Siders because they don’t hold back they are open about what they are and will do anything to win but often lose to comparable or even less powerful or skilled Jedi because of pride.
